THIEF RIVER FALLS, Minn. — The Arctic Cat brand is under new ownership with hopes of a resurgence after teetering on the brink of extinction.
Former Arctic Cat executive Brad Darling, along with an investment group, have purchased the Thief River Falls-based manufacturing company, according to a press release from Arctic Cat.
“The pursuit of the checkered flag is in Arctic Cat’s DNA,” Darling said in a press release. “It’s what we were built on. Like anyone who has ever grabbed the throttle – it’s a relentless drive that pushes us forward and sparks our passion. Today is the start of a new chapter, one where Arctic Cat returns to the race, but with a powerful understanding: this race is never-ending, and our intent is to lead.”
Terms of the deal have not been released. News of the sale comes just months after the company’s former owner, Texton, Inc, shut down most building operations. More than 400 employees at Arctic Cat’s manufacturing facilities in Thief River Falls and St. Cloud were to be impacted.
“We thank the talented and dedicated employees of Arctic Cat for their contributions during their time at Textron Specialized Vehicles, and wish them a bright future,” Textron said in a statement.
Darling is also the CEO and President of Argo, a Canadian ATV manufacturer, and will continue to lead both companies, which will be owned and operated separately, according to a release.
“We seek to continue Arctic Cat’s investment in its brand, products, people and dealers, extending its positive momentum,” Darling said. “As a permanent fixture of Thief River Falls, MN for over 63 years, this iconic brand has benefited from the passion of not only the employees but also the entire community. We are now able to wipe away any uncertainty and are looking ahead with great excitement.”
