The future has arrived, a dominance to remember
Virtually no one could even threaten, no one was even close to the class of the young sharks in Oradea – six games, six wins and the gold shining from the chests of the guys from Montenegro.
Our U18 water polo team is the European champion – it closed the round in the final against the team with which it played the first match of the tournament, Montenegro – Serbia 13:9.
Just like in every match in this tournament, the rival held its own only at the beginning, and then Nebojša Milić’s team stepped up the pace and showed where the greatest water polo talents are being born at this moment.
Serbia was the first to take the lead in the final, held on until the end of the first quarter, and then our guys reached 7:3 through Miljan Bošković (two goals), Reljo Vukanić and Danilo Stupar.
After a bomb by Strahinja Gojković, it was 8:4, but after an unused shot by Nikola Petrović, the rival managed to threaten at 8:6.
But even just to threaten, the young sharks once again showed a champion mentality – Bošković played the match of the tournament, and Danilo Stupar, with a goal from almost halfway through the pool, as against Italy in the semi-finals, led our team to a 10:6 victory.
By the end of the third quarter, the score was a whopping 12:6, so there could have been some relaxation during the last eight minutes – Serbia came close to 12:9, and Ognjen Moračanin put an end to the final, to an evening to remember.
It was actually a memorable tournament, with Serbia, Croatia, Spain, France, Italy and finally Serbia falling once again.
The future has arrived, now it is up to the people who lead our water polo to properly include the golden generation in big senior stories – Nebojša Milić and Uglješa Brguljan have shown the way.
Because captain Strahinja Gojković, Marko Pejović, Luka Ivanović, Ljubomir Kovačić, Ognjen Moračanin, Marko Milinić, Đorđe Pejović, Andrija Roganović, Danilo Stupar, Miljan Bošković, Nikola Petrović, Relja Vukanić, Todor Vukčević, Luka Todorović and Petar Brnović have shown that they have champion genes.
