The three male foreign nationals were believed to have been skiing in an area at an altitude of about 1,200 meters.
The police say they received an emergency call on Monday afternoon from the skiers’ acquaintances, saying that three foreigners had become unable to move while skiing off regular slopes in Otari village.
Last week, a backcountry skier from Tokyo was buried under snow and died in Nagano.
Police in Nagano Prefecture said on Tuesday they rescued three foreign backcountry skiers who became lost on a mountain the previous day. The skiers apparently have no injuries.
One of the rescued skiers said the temperature was very cold Monday night and they took shelter in a small hole they had dug in the snow.
Rescue operations started on Tuesday morning with more than 10 members of the police rescue squad and others. They found the skiers near the area before noon.
Police are advising backcountry skiers to be fully prepared, such as checking the terrain and courses and carrying necessary equipment.
