TROY, Ala. – Featuring back-to-back tournaments at the Troy Softball Complex to kick off the season and seven teams from the 2024 NCAA Tournament, Troy softball along with head coach Eric Newell announces its full schedule for 2025, which begins on Feb. 6 against Tennessee State.

“We are extremely enthusiastic about the 2025 schedule,” Newell stated. “The lineup is loaded with Power 4 and top 100 RPI teams. Thus, we will face tough competition right from the start this spring.”

The season opener is scheduled for Feb. 6 at 6 p.m. as the Trojans take on Tennessee State, marking the beginning of the Trojan Invitational (Feb. 6-9). In the following three days, Troy will compete against Central Michigan, Tennessee State, North Texas, and Samford.

The next week will commence the second tournament at the Troy Softball Complex. The 2025 Cardinal Clash (Feb. 13-16) will feature regular-season champions (Eastern Illinois) and tournament champions (SEMO) from the Ohio Valley Conference. Also joining the tournament are Western Kentucky and Alabama State.

A midweek match on Feb. 19 against Georgia Tech at 5 p.m. in the Troy Softball Complex interjects tournament play just before the Trojans head to Tampa, Fla., for a two-day tournament at USF (Feb. 22-23). On Feb. 22, the Trojans will contest two Big Ten teams, including the tournament champions, Michigan, and Wisconsin, followed by Kent State and South Florida on Feb. 23.

Troy’s concluding tournament sends the squad to Gainesville, Fla., to face the 2024 Gainesville Regional Champions, Florida, on March 1, who reached the NCAA Tournament Semifinal. The Gators lost to the eventual National Champions Oklahoma, 6-5, after previously defeating the Sooners 9-3. The remainder of the tournament (Feb. 28 – March 2) will feature Troy against Western Michigan, Samford, and Florida A&M.

“Clearly, the Sun Belt schedule is a fierce competition each week, but this year’s nonconference lineup is exceptionally challenging,” Newell said. “We kick off the season by hosting two robust tournaments that feature a number of top 100 RPI programs, such as Western Kentucky, North Texas, Southeast Missouri State, and the reigning Ohio Valley Conference regular season champions, Eastern Illinois. Furthermore, the nonconference schedule includes away or neutral games against Florida, Auburn, Wisconsin, and Michigan, as well as home games versus Auburn and Georgia Tech. Given that, we anticipate an exciting season and hope to see large crowds at the Troy Softball Complex.”

March 5 marks the start of non-tournament games as Troy journeys in-state to face Auburn in the first of a two-game series in 2025. The second game features the Trojans hosting the Tallahassee Regional runner-up on March 26.

Following the initial matchup against Auburn, UMass (March 7-9) and Alabama A&M (March 12) will come to Troy before Sun Belt Conference play begins at the Troy Softball Complex against last year’s first-round contender in the league tournament, Coastal Carolina (March 14-16) – Troy triumphed over the Chanticleers 16-0.

Conference action continues from March 21-23 as Troy embarks on its second road trip to Hattiesburg, Miss., since Southern Miss joined the SBC. After the second game of the Troy-Auburn series on March 26, Troy will hit the road again, competing against ULM from March 28-30 as they aim for a fourth consecutive series victory at the ULM Softball Complex.

April kicks off on the second with a doubleheader at West Georgia, marking the first-ever encounter with the Wolves. Following that, the Trojans will host the 18-time Sun Belt Conference Tournament champions, Louisiana, putting their four-year winning streak on the line in a three-day series from April 4 to April 6.

After a midweek trip to Alabama State on Wednesday, April 9, Troy will return for another weekend at the Troy Softball Complex (April 11-13). This time, they will face Georgia Southern, looking to continue their success against the Soaring Eagles. In the last 15 meetings, the Trojans have claimed 12 victories.

The final midweek of 2025 will see the Trojans travel up north to Birmingham for a match on April 15 against UAB.

Subsequently, Troy will have consecutive road trips within the SBC. They will first head to Texas from April 17-19, seeking redemption against Texas State, one of the three SBC teams that participated in the 2024 NCAA Tournament. Following that, they will clash with Georgia State in the Peach State for their first encounter since 2022 from April 25-27.

The rivalry weekend concludes the 2025 regular season as the Trojans welcome their in-state rivals, South Alabama, from May 1-3, who ended up as runner-up in the Gainesville Regional to Florida. Troy aims to secure their first series win against the Jaguars at home since 2022.

Play at the Troy Softball Complex won’t wrap up with the regular season as the venue will host the 2025 Sun Belt Conference Tournament, set from May 7 to May 10.
