MEDFORD, MA (March 25, 2024) – Four Tufts University players were announced as 2025 Academic All-District® Women’s Basketball Team members, as selected by College Sports Communicators. The award recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom.O’Brien (Biology), Gonzalez (economics) and Galanes (political science) – all guards – and O’Boyle (biopsychology), a forward, were key contributors to head Jill Pace‘s Tufts team that returned to the NCAA Tournament in the 2024-25 season. Gonzalez started all 26 games for the 15-11 Jumbos, while Galales played in 24 games with 11 starts, and O’Brien and O’Boyle both played in all 26 games with two starts each.–JUMBOS–Graduate student Caliie O’Brien, seniors Sofia Gonzalez and Caitlyn O’Boyle and sophomore Stella Galanes are the Tufts recipients. To be nominated, a student-athlete must play regularly for the team and carry at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale). Nominated athletes must have participated in at least 90 percent of the team’s games or started at least two-thirds of the team’s contests.The College Sports Communicators Academic All-America® program separately recognizes basketball honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA. Select Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced on April 16, 2024. The Academic All-District® Women’s Basketball Team honor is earned for the third year in a row by O’Brien.
