FAIRFAX, Va. – The Navy wrestling squad saw two competitors earn podium finishes in their weight categories at the Patriot Open in Fairfax, Va., on Sunday.

Freshman Isaac Hampton stood out among the Mids by securing a fourth-place finish at 125 pounds, marking his first placement in college. Starting his day with a first-round bye, Hampton faced Rider’s Alex Esposito in the round of 16. He quickly racked up seven points within the first minute thanks to a takedown followed by four back points. Hampton maintained his dominance in the second period with two additional takedowns, finishing the bout with a 17-2 tech fall and moving on to the semifinals. The Newberg, Ore., native then secured his second victory of the day by edging out Maryland’s Tyler Garvin in a narrow 4-3 match. The contest concluded in a 3-3 tie, but Hampton was awarded a riding time point, advancing him to the semifinals.

In the semifinals, Hampton faced Davis Motyka (PRTC) and suffered his first loss of the day, 13-5. In the battle for third place, he went up against American’s JJ Peace. The only takedown by Peace proved to be the decisive factor, resulting in a 4-1 defeat for Hampton.

Sophomore Zyan Hall (184) achieved a sixth-place finish in his weight class, concluding with a 3-2 record. Hall started his day with a loss to PRTC’s Maximus Hale, 9-4. He rebounded during the consolation rounds, winning three consecutive matches by tech falls. The Marietta, Ga., native scored impressively with a 24-8 victory against unattached Nate Campbell. Hall’s momentum continued with wins over Drexel’s George Rhodes (17-2) and Gardner-Webb’s Eidson Flores (19-3), granting him a place in the fifth-place match.

However, Hall’s competition ended with a medical forfeit in the fifth-place match.
