GRENOBLE, France — Ilia Malinin executed six quadruple jumps while Amber Glenn concluded a 14-year pursuit for gold for the U.S. on a remarkable day for American figure skaters during the Grand Prix Final on Saturday.
Malinin and Glenn triumphed in their respective events, with Madison Chock and Evan Bates successfully defending their ice dance championship, leading the U.S. to claim three out of four senior gold medals. Malinin attempted seven quads throughout his routine, including the quad axel, a feat he alone has accomplished in competition, highlighting it with a backflip. Malinin did stumble once but managed to land the remaining six quads, although all incurred execution deductions.
