BIRMINGHAM – UAB student-athletes put together one of the strongest semesters in school history as the Blazers posted a collective Fall GPA of 3.27, which is the second highest Fall term GPA in program history.

“We are extremely proud of our student-athletes and their academic efforts this fall,” said A’dja Jones, Associate Athletic Director for Academics and Student-Athlete Support Services. “Being a student-athlete, especially during this time, is tough. Expectations are high. There never seems to be enough time to complete everything. Yet, our Blazer student-athletes continue to prove that discipline, dedication, and asking for help, when needed, pays off in the classroom just as it does on their respective field of play.

“This could not have been accomplished without the efforts of our fantastic academic support staff pouring into all UAB student-athletes. We are looking forward to another successful semester this Spring and will strive to keep improving in the classroom and community.”

Overall, 14 of UAB’s 17 teams posted a team GPA of 3.2 of better, led by the beach volleyball team who had the highest GPA at 3.83. Men’s tennis had the highest GPA amongst male sports at 3.79.

An impressive 93 student-athletes posted a perfect 4.0 GPA, while exactly 200 Blazers had a 3.5 GPA or better, and 300 athletes recording a 3.0 or better. UAB had 19 graduates in the Fall semester and a total of 11 majors represented.

Additionally, UAB logged 2,543 community service hours in the Fall semester that equated to an economic impact of $85,165.

The Blazers begin the Spring semester this coming Monday, January 13.
