The Union Bordeaux-Bègles have never had a better shot at winning the Investec Champions Cup than in 2025, finishing a perfect 4-0-0 in Pool 1 play.
Securing the top seed in the playoff field, they’ve also benefited from a weakened side of the bracket following Antoine Dupont’s season-ending injury during the 2025 Six Nations against Ireland.
Adding to their confidence, star winger Damian Penaud is now hitting his peak after overcoming early-season injuries. However, they’ll still face an unpredictable opponent in the Round of 16.
Ulster Rugby, the last team to secure a spot in the knockout stage, finished 1-0-3 in Pool 1 but sealed their place with a dominant 52-24 victory over Exeter Chiefs in Belfast.
Ulster will be hoping for a better result against UBB than when the two teams met in December, with UBB comfortably winning 40-19 in Belfast during Round 2.

When Do The Investec Champions Cup Playoffs Begin In 2025?
The Investec Champions Cup Playoffs kick off with the Round of 16 on April 4, as the Northampton Saints take on Clermont Rugby. The remaining seven games of the round will be played April 5-6.
The quarterfinals will follow from April 11-13, with a short break until the semifinals on May 2-4.
The Champions Cup Final will take place at Principality Stadium in Cardiff, Wales, on May 24.
