UGA football favored vs. Alabama despite Kirby Smart’s poor record

Published

on

The Georgia Bulldogs are favored over the Alabama Crimson Tide by over a field goal. Georgia has lost nine of their last 10 matchups against Alabama.

Georgia coach Kirby Smart is 1-6 against his former team and has lost to the Crimson Tide in three SEC championships, a national championship (2017) and two regular season road games. Of course, Smart and Georgia did get a big win over Alabama in the 2021 national championship game that has helped ease Bulldog fans’ mindset.

The 2025 edition of Georgia-Alabama should be another big one as Georgia hosts Alabama for the first time since 2015. Both Georgia and Alabama have bye weeks ahead of their Week 5 game. The two SEC powers have have combined to win five of 11 national championships during the College Football Playoff era and 10 of the last 11 SEC championships. The winner (and probably loser) of the Georgia-Alabama game will be primed to be a national championship contender.

Alabama recently named Ty Simpson as their starting quarterback. He’s projected to be starting just his fourth career game and his first ever SEC road game when Alabama travels to Georgia. Georgia will rely on Gunner Stockton at quarterback, who has one career start entering the 2025 season. Georgia has lengthy home winning streak dates back to 2019 and should be at 33 straight home wins by the time Alabama comes to town.

Georgia vs. Alabama prediction, pick

We think Alabama’s superior talent in the trenches will be why the Crimson Tide beat Georgia. Alabama has three first- or second-team All-SEC offensive linemen, while Georgia does not have any. The Crimson Tide have two All-SEC second-team defensive linemen, but Georgia only has one (Christen Miller). Alabama just has Georgia’s number and gets the job done in the trenches this time.

Prediction: Alabama 27, Georgia 24
