The U.S. Coast Guard rescued three sailors off of Cape Hatteras on Thursday morning.
Officials said that they were notified on Wednesday that a sailing vessel was caught in heavy weather and at the risk of capsizing about 150 miles southeast of Cape Hatteras. Those on board the 59-foot boat said they weren’t initially in distress, but on Thursday they requested to abandon the ship.
The coast guard launched crews via air and sea, with a helicopter crew successfully lifting the people to safety. No one was injured.
