The USA Women’s National Water Polo Team staged a furious second-half rally but came up one goal short, falling to Spain 13-12 in the bronze medal match at the 2025 World Aquatics World Championships in Singapore.
Ryann Neushul (Dos Pueblos alum) scored two goals, both coming in the first period.
Spain scored three unanswered goals for a 5-2 lead early in the second quarter and never gave up their advantage.
Spain built an 8-4 lead in the third quarter, but the Americans fought back and cut the deficit to 11-10 early in the fourth.
The teams traded goals over the next few minutes with Spain going up two with 3:01 to play. Emma Lineback fired in one more strike with time winding down to cut the deficit to one. Team USA had the ball late but committed a turnover foul and would get no closer as Spain ran out the clock.
Lineback led the team with five goals.
Team USA also included San Marcos alum and current USC player Ava Stryker.
