PHILADELPHIA- After dominating the Sabers in Buffalo yesterday morning, the Utah Hockey Club looked to go undefeated on the quick trip to the East Coast as they battled the Flyers in the City of Brotherly Love.
It was a quiet first period as the two teams closed out the frame scoreless, but a physical opening to the second led to an offensive explosion as the Utah Hockey Club and Philadelphia Flyers combined for five goals in the period. Michael Carcone and Juuso Valimaki scored only minutes apart during an onslaught that resulted in a 2-2 tie, but Logan Cooley put Utah on top ahead of the intermission with a beautiful power-play goal.
Despite holding a lead, Utah took the fight to Philadelphia in the third and they were able to take advantage of a huge mistake from the Flyers as Morgan Frost whiffed on a sitting puck as he tried to push the Philadelphia power play, allowing Kevin Stenlund to pick it up and beat the goalie five-hole to give Utah the two-goal lead.
Utah escaped the East Coast with four points and their first consecutive victories since October and will head back home to take on the Minnesota Wild on December 10.

Nice save from Stauber on that last sequence.
Makes the initial pad save and then gobbles up a rebound with his glove. Had to react quick.#UtahHC

Keller is LETHAL on the wings and behind the net. The last two passes he made on the last O-zone possession were wizard. Such a talented creator.#UtahHC
β Cole Bagley (@BagleyKSLsports) December 9, 2024
Really good energy from #UtahHC to start this game.
They’re possessing well in the O-zone, moving the puck, getting bodies in front of the net, and generating scoring opportunities.

Really nice period from #UtahHC despite a scoreless hockey game.
They dominated possession, created scoring chances, got bodies in front of the net, and kept it out of their zone for the most part.
Flyers had a few decent chances, but Stauber answered every single one. https://t.co/La7xqxdmxA

PULVERIZING hit from Ian Cole before that last whistle. My goodness. #UtahHC

Great hit.https://t.co/hqcT8PC4Qe

That was some WICKED speed from Carcone up the right wing.
Then he just threw the puck towards the goal, it takes a nice bounce and ends up in the net.
Sometimes, that’s all it takes. Get pucks to the net and good things will happen. https://t.co/wAPkL1RX4R

Flyers respond immediately and its 1-1.
Lead lasted a matter of seconds.
β Cole Bagley (@BagleyKSLsports) December 9, 2024
This is why you work the puck around the zone, generate traffic, and get bodies in front. It generally results in a goal.
Just a nasty tip from Valimaki here for his first goal of the season.#UtahHC https://t.co/OTPAEknZKC

Really not the best performance overall by the Flyers but they’re capitalizing on chances and responding quickly. https://t.co/WpHO7hYYNZ
