VENICE, Fla. (WWSB) – The Venice Indians were honored at a local business for their championship football season. Venice High School coaches, players, fans, and faculty were on hand to enjoy music, refreshments, and a pep rally.
“It’s definitely bittersweet, like it’s awesome to have the celebration and stuff but my brothers will be gone. Some of them are leaving in like a month and stuff and it’s definitely sad to think about,” said Ryan Matulevich.
The Venice High School cheerleaders were also there cheering on the team. Venice defeated Lake Mary 52 to 19 to win the class 7A FHSAA State football championship on December 14th at Florida International University at Pitbull Stadium in Miami.
“For me it was relief to be honest, I haven’t really had a chance to enjoy it yet. Hopefully, I can enjoy it over the break, but for me it was a since of relief,” said Coach John Peacock.
The Venice Indians football team have won FHSAA State Football Championships in 2000, 2017, 2021, and 2025.
