BISMARCK – The track and field teams of Valley City State University competed at the Mike Thorson Open, which was organized by the University of Mary in Bismarck, N.D.
The VCSU teams achieved 13 top-eight placements and registered four personal bests. The women’s squad secured fifth place out of eight, while the men’s team claimed sixth.
Results
Freshman Parker Jacobson took sixth in the men’s 60-meter dash with a time of 7:18, contributing three points to the team’s score. Fellow freshman Tayshaun Robinson set a school record by clocking 8:32 in the 60-meter hurdles, finishing third and earning six points. Zeke Barnick achieved a high jump of 1.93 meters, placing second and earning eight points. Sophomore Aaron Cutshall came in seventh in the long jump with a distance of 6.67 meters, earning two points. Following him, freshman Jordan Mount secured eighth place with a jump of 6.53 meters, netting one point. Cameron Champagnie captured second in the triple jump with a leap of 14.00 meters, while Cody Frounfelter amassed three points with a sixth-place finish in the weight throw, tossing 13.48 meters.
The Viking men accumulated 31 points for a sixth-place overall finish in the competition.
Senior Jasmine Barnes set a personal best and a school record in the 800-meter with a time of 2:24:10, finishing second and garnering eight points for the team. Sophomore Emma Muggli achieved a personal record with a high jump of 1.44 meters, securing seventh place and two points. Emma Bastian had an 11.26-meter shot put throw, placing sixth and collecting three points. Jade Azure recorded an 11.05-meter shot put throw, finishing eighth for one point. Caitlin Armbrust scored two points and placed seventh with a triple jump of 9.95 meters. In the women’s weight throw, Jade Azure earned four points for a fifth-place finish with a throw of 14.58 meters.
The Viking women accumulated 20 points, securing a fifth-place team score.
