SWIMMING-DIVINGThe Register-Guard is continuing its early season coverage with a reader poll on the top Eugene-area high school boys swimmers. We recently highlights the top area swimmers to watch. All of the athletes in the poll will likely finish the year on state meet podiums.

- Rhett Allred, North Eugene, senior: Allred competed in four events at the 5A state championship — two of them on the Highlanders’ relay teams — 200 medley relay (seventh in prelims), 200 freestyle (10th in prelims), 100 freestyle (11th in prelims) and the 200 freestyle relay (10th in prelims).
- Michael Coffey, Marist Catholic, senior: Coffey is a key component of Marist’s 200 medley relay and 400 freestyle relay teams that competed at the 4A/3A/2A/1A state championship. He also competed in the 100 breaststroke, placing eighth in prelims.
- Quinn Devenport, Thurston, junior: Devenport is a strong swimmer for the Colts. Last season, he placed fourth in the 50 freestyle.
- Jonathan McDonough, Marist Catholic, senior: McDonough placed in two events at the 4A/3A/2A/1A state championship: the 100 backstroke (fourth) and the 100 butterfly (fifth) while also helping the Spartans place in the 400 freestyle relay (fifth). He also competed in the 200 medley relay (ninth in prelims).
- Ari Ozdogan, South Eugene, senior: Ozdogan has been a key part for the Axe relay team. Last season, he placed in two freestyle events at the 6A state championship, 200 medley relay (seventh) and the 200 free relay (ninth).
- Burke Sherman, South Eugene, junior: Sherman was at his best in the 100 backstroke last season, placing third at the 6A state championship. His return means that South Eugene has three-fourths of its 200 medley relay and half of its 400 freestyle relay team.
- Kobe Sim, South Eugene, sophomore: Sim had a standout freshman campaign on South Eugene relay team at the 6A state championship, placing seventh in the 200 medley relay and ninth in the 200 free relay. He also competed in the 100 breaststroke, but did not advance past the preliminary race.
- Tim Trojan, South Eugene, junior: Trojan placed in three events at the 6A state championship last season — 400 freestyle relay (sixth), 200 freestyle relay (ninth) and the 200 freestyle (ninth). He also competed in the 100 butterfly but did not advance past the preliminary race.
- Hayes Valley, Cottage Grove, senior: Valley’s best event last season was the 100 backstroke, where he placed third at the 4A/3A/2A/1A state championship.
- Brody Wyatt, Thurston, sophomore: Wyatt was one of the Colts’ best swimmers as a freshman last season. He competed in two events at the 5A state championship, placing in the 100 backstroke (second) and the 100 freestyle (fourth).
