Cynia Johnson, a senior with Vicksburg High’s girls’ basketball team, had a double-double with 18 points, 16 rebounds, four steals and three blocks in a 63-60 overtime win against defending MHSAA Class 6A champion Neshoba Central on Jan. 7. She also had eight points and nine rebounds in a loss to Ridgeland on Jan. 9.
Voting is open until midnight Tuesday, and you can vote as many times as you want until the deadline. The winner will be announced Wednesday on vicksburgpost.com and then be featured in our Friday print edition.
This week’s nominees are basketball players Cynia Johnson (Vicksburg) and Sophie Masterson (Porter’s Chapel); and soccer players John Ellis Montgomery (St. Aloysius) and Jacob Porter (Warren Central).
Jacob Porter, a sophomore with Warren Central’s boys’ soccer team, scored two goals in a 3-0 win over Neshoba Central on Jan. 7. Porter leads the Vikings with 17 goals and five assists this season.
Voting is open until midnight Tuesday, and you can vote as many times as you want until the deadline.

John Ellis Montgomery, a senior with St. Aloysius’ boys’ soccer team, totaled three goals and two assists in three games last week. He had two goals in a 6-3 win vs. ACCS on Jan. 7, and a goal and an assist in a 6-1 victory over Oak Forest on Jan. 11.
