VV wrestling team places 10th at Spartan Invitational

The win sent Woods into the gold medal match against Soliz, where he lost on a decision to settle for the silver medal.
Gary Woods, 215, had wins in his first three matches before falling in the semifinal round and in the consolation semifinal.
Daxton Noel went 2-2 in his matches at 285 while Jacob Nelson went 1-2 also in the 285-pound division.
The Bulldogs garnered 94 team points, finishing just behind Basic of Henderson (95) and ahead of Spring Valley of Las Vegas (92.5). Granite Hills of El Cajon, California, captured the team title with 207.5 points to edge out SLAM Academy of Las Vegas, which had 202.
The Virgin Valley High School wrestling team placed 10th at the Spartan Invitational held last weekend at Cimarron Memorial High School in Las Vegas. The two-day tournament featured over 30 schools, mostly from Nevada and California.

Virgin Valley wrestlers Micah Woods and Malachi Jordan placed in the top three of their respective weight classes.
In the girls bracket, Raylynn Woods of the Bulldogs reached the gold medal match at 110, where she lost in the final to take home the silver. Woods picked up wins in her first three matches and then pinned her opponent in the semifinal round.
Camryn Lee also competed for the Bulldogs, going 1-2 at 125.
Virgin Valley had other wrestlers record wins in the tournament.
Decker Lee pinned his first three opponents before losing his final two matches in the 144-pound division.
Dominic Piazza also won his first three matches at 190 before losing his final two matches.
Jordan placed third in the 106-pound division. After winning his first two matches by pin, Jordan lost in the third round, sending him to the consolation bracket, where he won five consecutive matches – three by pin and two by technical fall – to win the bronze medal.
