MALIBU, Calif. – In their third-straight sweep of the season, Pepperdine men’s volleyball took Emmanuel in straight sets, posting 25-11, 25-17, 25-17 set scores. Newcomers made the lineup tonight, with redshirt freshman Matt Mazur leading the attack, posting 14 kills on a .500 success rate while also adding a service ace and a block. Freshman Jose Gomez added five service aces while tabbing 13 kills with a .450 hitting percentage. The Waves collectively averaged a .444 while serving nine aces, and 29 digs. The Waves kept the Lions to a .288 success rate all night, while only allowing 20 kills from the opposition.

PLAY-BY-PLAY
Pepperdine kept Emmanuel to a .000 hitting percentage throughout the first set, only allowing five kills. The Waves hit a .769 with Matt Mazur leading the way with four kills on a .800 clip. Jose Gomez served four aces that the Lions had trouble receiving while also adding two kills. Gabe Dyer led the playmaking for the night, with nine assists, also digging out three balls. The Waves’ dominant attack allowed for a 25-11 score for set one in favor of Pepperdine
In a competitive second set, the Waves and Lions traded off the lead three times, while also being tied six. Gomez led the attack, posting seven kills on 10 attempts, along with Mazur who delivered six kills on eight tries along with an assisted denial at the net. Pepperdine took set two, 25-17 after keeping Emanuel to a .208 hitting percentage and only allowing seven kills.
To round out the match, the Waves found themselves tied with the Lions seven times. George Dyer took control of set three, tabbing seven kills on a .875 clip, combined with attacking efforts from Gomez and Mazur. Pepperdine hit a .444 in the third set, totaling 17 kills, 16 assists, and two service aces. The Waves took set three, 25-17 to secure their third sweep of the season.
