The former Zimbabwe Olympic medalist, who will assume office after a handover on 23 June, was elected for an eight-year term of office.

The African Paralympic Committee and the Paralympic Movement, have congratulated
Kirsty Coventry on her election as President of the International Olympic Committee
(IOC).
Kirsty is the first woman and first African to lead the sports governing body of the modern Olympic Games.
The continent of Africa is proud of you as her first daughter and former athlete to rise to
the highest office of the biggest global sports movement.
The 41-year-old former swimmer, who won two Olympic gold medals, replaces German Thomas Bach – who had held the role since 2013.
