We’re always in the content game here at Globe Schools. But Thursday took it to another level.
With every spring MIAA tournament underway, plus the divisional track championships, we had you blanketed with previews, coverage, roundups, and more.
It started this morning with Michael Silverman’s look at the challenges of coaching in this era. Give it a read and weigh in via the comments.
Then we published five playoff primers dissecting the favorites, sleepers, players to watch, longest road trips, and best matchups in the boys’ volleyball, boys’ lacrosse, girls’ lacrosse, baseball, and softball tournaments.
- MIAA boys’ lacrosse tournament: Favorites, sleepers, players to watch, Divisions 1-4
- MIAA girls’ lacrosse tournament: Favorites, sleepers, and players to watch for Divisions 1-4
- MIAA baseball tournament: Favorites, sleepers, and players to watch for Divisions 1-5
- MIAA softball tournament: Favorites, sleepers, and players to watch for Divisions 1-5
- MIAA boys’ volleyball tournament: Favorites, sleepers, players to watch for Divisions 1-2
In the afternoon, Globe correspondents Matty Wasserman and Aiden Barker were dispatched to the first day of the Division 1 and Division 2 track and field championships.
- Westford’s Ryan Kyle makes quick work of 400-meter hurdles during first day of Division 1 track and field championship
- Arlington’s Bryn Ryan goes out in style during Day 1 of Division 2 track and field championship
As the evening rolled around, it was all about the playoff action. The baseball game of the night was in Triton, where the Vikings appeared to knot the game at 6-6 in the bottom of the seventh on a home run, but a successful appeal left two-time defending state champion Oakmont advancing. Read about that game and peruse the rest of our playoff roundups:
- Triton’s Nick Bonasera hit a massive home run to tie Oakmont in the bottom of the seventh. So why didn’t it count?
- Baseball roundup: Boston Latin puts its best foot forward, opening tournament with four-run first to roll Diman
- Softball roundup: Milton’s Victoria Fish sticks it to Masconomet with home run in preliminary-round win
- Boys’ volleyball roundup: Getting in the swing, Cassius Costabile carries Medfield past O’Bryant in Division 2
- Tennis roundup: Sophomore pair nets clincher as Bishop Fenwick girls’ tennis takes Division 3 match at Norwell
Now, onto the highlights.
