A gymnastics club in West Lothian has announced that all its members are safe following a fire that engulfed their premises.
On the afternoon of Saturday, December 7, a fierce fire spread through multiple units at Brucefield Industrial Estate in Livingston, prompting the dispatch of approximately 35 firefighters to combat the blaze.
Shocking images captured by onlookers displayed massive clouds of smoke rising into the atmosphere, with the fire being observable from Edinburgh. Initial reports suggest that the outbreak started in one unit before moving to another housing Astro Gymnastics.
Fortunately, the club utilized social media to reassure everyone that all children and staff exited the building unharmed and confirmed they are relocating temporarily to a close-by facility.
They stated: “All individuals are out of the building and safe. Please refrain from visiting the industrial park. We will be transitioning to the Larder at Bellsquarry if you need to reach someone.”
Community members quickly responded by offering to assist the club in finding a new venue and organizing a fundraiser.
The West Lothian Council also took to social media to inform locals about the situation and advised drivers to steer clear of the area.
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service instructed nearby residents to keep their doors and windows shut while the fire was ongoing, with nine appliances dispatched to the location.
A representative from SFRS had earlier stated: “We are currently dealing with a large building fire at Livingston’s Brucefield Industrial Estate. Citizens are encouraged to avoid the vicinity and homes nearby should ensure that windows and doors are closed. No casualties have been reported.”
