Men vs. PSU-Behrend: The Cardinals and Nittany Lions are meeting for the second time in program history, with PSU Behrend winning the first meeting. The Cardinals played host to PSU Behrend a season ago, and ended up falling in a 190.5 – 64.5 affair. Nathan Yost would get the lone win on the day in the 1000-Yard Freestyle, swimming a time of 11:05.15, while Patrick Kirby picked up second place finishes in the 200-Yard Freestyle and Backstroke.
Last time out, the Cardinals honored their seniors in their final home meet of 2024-2025, when they welcomed in Fairmont State. The team would honor their class of seven seniors, including the four that helped restart the Men’s and Women’s Swimming programs when they came on campus back in 2021. On the men’s side, the Cardinals would pick up seven individual wins, while having two multi-event winners. It would come down to the final relay race of the day, but the Cardinals dropped a close matchup 131-123. On the women’s side, the Cardinals would put up their second highest point total of the season, scoring 164 in a 164-87 win over the Falcons. The Cardinals would pick up six individual wins, spread out between two players as they moved to 9-3 on the season.
Women vs. PSU-Behrend: The Cardinals and Nittany Lions are meeting for the second time in program history, with PSU-Behrend winning the first meeting. After coming to the Alma Grace McDonough Natatorium last season, the Cardinals will make their first trip to Erie, PA. Wheeling would drop a close contest between the two teams last season, falling 132-127, with Gabby Baiano leading the way with three individual wins on the day.
Wheeling, W. Va. – The 2024-2025 season has seen the Wheeling University Men’s and Women’s Swimming teams each reach new heights. On Saturday, the teams head to Penn State Behrend for their final regular season meet as they take on Alfred State and Penn State Behrend at 1 PM. It has the potential to be a historic day for both programs, as a sweep of the event on either side sets the new program win record for both teams.

Men vs. Alfred State: The Cardinals and Pioneers will be meeting for the first time in program history when they meet in Erie, PA. on Saturday. Alfred State comes into the contest sitting at 4-6 overall, including a 1-1 record at Neutral site events. They are coming off of a 175-71.5 win over St. Lawrence University, where the Pioneers had three top three finishers at the event.
On the men’s side, senior Nathan Yost picked up one individual win, picking it up in his final event inside the Natatorium. That win would come in the 500-Yard Freestyle, an event that Yost has specialized in, where he swam a time of 5:21.63. He beat the rest of the field by 20 seconds, earning the second of two medals after he finished second in the 1000 Yard Freestyle earlier in the day. Freshman Sarp Killic would be the top performer for the Cardinals, being one of two multi-event winners on the day. His first came in that 1000 Yard Freestyle, where he swam a time of 10:54.14. as he has done all season, Killic showed off his versatility in his second event, swimming in the 100-Yard Freestyle. Here, he swamm a time of 49.13 to earn his second gold medal of the day to lead the Cardinals.
Women vs. Alfred State: The Cardinals and Pioneers will be meeting for the first time in program history when they meet on Saturday. Alfred State’s women’s team enters the meet sitting at 3-7 overall and 1-1 in neutral site events. They are coming off a win last time out as the Cardinals look to start the all-time series with a win of their own.
For the women, it was senior Jade Miller who led the way, bringing her home career to a strong end. She would stretch herself out during the day, swimming in three events with all being 200-Yards or longer. Her biggest win of the day would come in the 200-Yard Breaststroke, where she beat the field by six seconds with a time of 2:35.48. her final home swim would come in the 400-Yarf Individual Medley, and she ended her career in the Natatorium with a first place finish, swimming a time of 5:04.18. The final three Cardinal wins on the day came courtesy of Gabby Baiano, who also took home three gold medals on the day. She continued her success in long distance, winning both the 200 Yard Butterfly and 500 Yard Freestyle. However, her biggest win would be in long distance, where she took the 1000 Yard Freestyle by 14 seconds at 11:10.57.
The MatchupsAs they head into Saturday’s dual meet, it has the potential to be a historic day for both swimming programs. With the men entering play at 8-4 and the women entering at 9-3, both have a chance to break their program single-season win records. With a sweep of the event, both the men’s and women’s teams would break their single season wins record with 10 and 11 respectively. If either team ends up splitting their respective dual meet, they would tie the single season win record. Both teams have performed well on the road this season, putting up identical 3-2 marks away from the Natatorium, and both are looking to add to that total. Individually, with just this meet standing between them and the 2025 MEC/Great Midwest Athletic Conference (GMAC) Championships, the Cardinals are looking to swim their best times of the season.
