When do the Detroit Tigers pick? 2025 MLB Draft first five rounds order

For only the third time in the last eight MLB drafts, the Detroit Tigers do not have a top-10 overall pick.

By virtue of a surprise playoff berth in 2024, the Tigers have the No. 24 overall pick in the first round of the 2025 MLB Draft, their lowest draft starting point since picking 91st overall in 2012. Despite the relatively low position, the Tigers are hoping to continue to build out their robust farm system, which according to MLB Pipeline was the top minor league system heading into the 2025 season.

Recent Tigers’ first-round draft picks have included starting pitcher Casey Mize (No. 1 overall in 2018), outfielder Riley Greene (No. 5, 2019), first baseman Spencer Torkelson (No. 1, 2020) and rookie pitcher Jackson Jobe (No. 3, 2021). President of baseball operations Scott Harris has done well in turning draft prospects into big league talent, and he and the Tigers look to continue that through the 2025 draft.

The draft will take place in Atlanta from Sunday, July 13-Monday, July 14. Sunday will feature rounds 1-3 starting at 6 p.m. ET, while Monday will have the rest of the draft (rounds 4-20) starting at 11:30 a.m. ET.

TIM WEIGHT/For the Express
Bald Eagle Area’s Leah Bryan and Norah Eppley hold District 6 Class AA championship trophy together. Both were named to the Laurel Highland volleyball all-star team.

Following its run to the PIAA Class AA quarterfinals in November, it comes as no surprise that the Bald Eagle Area volleyball team was well represented on this year’s Laurel Highlands all-star team. Four Eagles made the team, including two first teamers.

On the first team, Bald Eagle seniors Leah Bryan and Nora Eppley were present, earning accolades after prolific campaigns at outside hitter and libero respectively.

Fellow senior Casey Angellotti earned second-team honors at setter, and in just her second season, sophomore outside hitter Emily Smith also made the second team.

Apart from the Eagles, Bellefonte and Penns Valley also had all-star representatives. Penns Valley’s Peyton Wasson made the second team as a hitter while Bellefonte’s Colbie Frailey was named an honorable mention.
