MANHATTAN, Kan. – The K-State women’s rowing team will continue their season competing in the Sarasota 2k on Friday-Saturday (March 28-29) in Sarasota, Fla., at Nathan Benderson Park.

“We are looking forward to racing again. As we get further into the season, we’re starting to see that more water time is helping us continue to find speed and move forward as a team,” head coach Patrick Sweeney said. “We’ve been looking at different combinations and the core of each boat is coming together.”

Racing will begin on Friday at 1 p.m., CT. The 1v8+, 2v8+ and 1v4+ will compete in time trials, then all five K-State boats will compete in heats on Friday afternoon. Racing for all crews will begin again on Saturday at 7 a.m., CT.

Competition this will include fellow Big 12 competitors Kansas, West Virginia, Tulsa, Old Dominion, and UCF.  Alabama, Dartmouth, Iowa, Jacksonville, Miami, Michigan State, Stetson and more will also be in attendance.

After racing last in the Hornet Invitational on March 14-15, the 1v4+ earned the first 2025 Big 12 Boat of the Week honors following three dominant wins throughout the weekend with junior coxswain Kiersten Schmalz, seniors Rachel Harman and Madison Koller and juniors Grace Hall and SylviaCunningham. The 2v8+ was also victorious in two races and the 2v4+ claimed the sixth win overall for the Cats.

Prior to California, the Cats competed in Oklahoma City against UCO and Tulsa, where the team won five races to open the season.

“This weekend we’re racing some strong competition and we’re ready to see what we are capable of at this time,” Sweeney said. “We’ve made a lot of progress in the last few weeks and our goal is to keep building from that.”
