Wildcats Win Three Events on Final Day of Stan Scott Invite

LUBBOCK, Texas / FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Arizona Track & Field completed the Stan Scott Invite and Multis on Saturday.
 
The final day of competition in Texas wrapped up a two-meet weekend for the Wildcats. On Friday, the Wildcats totaled four podium finishes at the Stan Scott Invite and Multis hosted by Texas Tech: Zach Landa (second, shot put), Isaac Davis (third, 600y), Michael Ogbeiwi (third, weight throw), and Trayvion White-Austin (third, 60m). Additionally on Friday, the Wildcats had another podium finisher at the Razorback Invitational hosted by Arkansas: Hollan Powers (third, pentathlon). Powers was the only Wildcat to compete at the competition.
 
Day two in Texas saw the Wildcats add six more podium finishes including three events wins from Emma Gates (high jump), Tapenisa Havea (shot put), and Zach Landa (shot put). The team’s other podium finishers were McKenna Watson in the 200m, Olivia Dillon in the pole vault, and Youssef Koudssi in the shot put. Additionally, the team recorded a number of personal and season bests over the weekend.

STAN SCOTT INVITE AND MULTIS
FIELD HIGHLIGHTS
Tapenisa Havea won the women’s shot put, posting an indoor personal best throw of 54-8 (16.66m). Havea has dominated the event all season as this marks her third shot put victory of the year. Lauryn Love also placed sixth overall in the event.
 
The Wildcats saw similar results in the men’s shot put with Zach Landa winning the event. Landa’s best throw on the day was 62-3 (18.97m) and this marks his second shot put win of the season. Youssef Koudssi finished third overall in the event as well with a toss of 59-6.75 (18.15m). Additionally, Sam Hala’ufia finished fifth with a big personal best throw of 58-10.75 (17.95m) and Tyler Michelini placed seventh with a mark of 58-6.75 (17.85m). This is the second competition this season that both Landa and Havea have swept the shot put titles at.
 
Emma Gates won the women’s high jump, clearing an indoor personal best height of 6-1.25 (1.86m). Gates has now finished either first or second in all three high jump competitions she’s competed in this season. Paris Mikinski also placed fourth overall for the Wildcats with a clearance of 5-10.75 (1.80m).
 
Olivia Dillon finished third overall in the women’s pole vault with an indoor personal best clearance of 12-11.5 (3.95m). Ena McMahon placed fifth overall in the event and Kelly de Jong finished seventh.
 
TRACK HIGHLIGHTS
McKenna Watson finished runner-up in the women’s 200m, continuing her fast start to the season. Watson clocked an indoor personal best time of 23.31 in the event which is just 0.02 seconds off the school record. Earlier this season, Watson broke the Arizona school record in the 300m. Additionally, Dakota Minor (24.45), Ava Simms (24.65), and Presley Money (24.74) all ran indoor personal best times in the event as well.
 
In the women’s 800m, Kara Mickelson clocked a big personal best time of 2:10.44 to place fifth overall. In the men’s 800m, José Rodríguez placed fifth overall as well, clocking a time of 1:51.17 in his season debut in the event. Additionally, Cade Russo finished 11th with a time of 1:52.37. Noah Ray (1:52.54) and Christian Simmons (1:52.57) both ran personal best times in the event as well.
 
In the men’s 200m, Trayvion White-Austin placed fifth overall with a time of 21.01. Tyson Tippett clocked a near personal best time of 21.34 in the event, and Brian Limage ran a personal record time of 21.53.
 
In the men’s 3000m, Gideon Mengich finished fourth overall with a time of 8:22.38. Michael Urbanski also placed 10th in the event.
 
Arizona’s team of Ousman Jagne, Christian Simmons, Brian Limage, and Diego Marquez ran a season best time in the men’s 4x400m relay of 3:12.46 to place sixth.

The Wildcats return to Albuquerque, N.M., for the New Mexico Collegiate Classic on February 7-8.
