Saturday, December 7th vs Yale

Coming off a 1-1 performance in the FIU Thanksgiving Classic, the Panthers secured a victory over Wagner in the opening round but fell to Abilene Christian in the championship game, 87-67.

The contest remained competitive for a significant part of the game, starting with a close contest in the first quarter before the Wildcats pulled ahead with a 12-0 run, ending the quarter with a 25-13 lead.

FIU outperformed the Wildcats 20-17 in the second quarter, but went into halftime trailing 42-33. Lucia Fleta Robles connected on a three-pointer at the halftime buzzer, narrowing the gap to single digits.

In the third quarter, FIU again outscored ACU 23-19, with junior Angena Belloso contributing 12 points in that period. The Spanish native concluded the game with a career-best 19 points, along with seven rebounds, three assists, and two steals.

The Panthers entered the final quarter trailing 61-56 but were unable to secure the win.

SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS

Yale was predicted to finish sixth in the Ivy League Preseason Poll but has struggled at the start of the season, currently holding a 1-9 record. Their only win came against Monmouth, followed by nine straight losses. They are averaging 53.3 points per game while allowing 69.1 points, both ranking last in the Ivy League.

The Bulldogs are spearheaded by senior Mackenzie Egger, who averages 15.7 points per game, placing her fifth in the Ivy League. The combo guard/forward also averages 9.9 rebounds per game, leading her conference.

No other Bulldogs are reaching double digits in scoring this season, though freshman guard Marisa Chapman ranks eighth in the Ivy League for rebounds, collecting six per game, along with 5.2 points, 1.2 assists, and 1.1 steals.

Historically, the Panthers and Bulldogs have faced each other once prior, with FIU winning 77-63 on December 28, 1998.
