EMMITSBURG, Md. (April 8, 2025) – Seeking a 5-0 record in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play, Mount St. Mary’s women’s lacrosse hosts the team that won the 2024 MAAC Championship, the Niagara Purple Eagles.
MOUNT UPDATE
- Last Saturday the Mountaineers defeated Fairfield 10-7, snapping a 14-game MAAC regular season win streak for the Stags. Anna Salerno secured her fifth consecutive hat trick, and Camille Thomas finished the game with 10 saves.
- Mackenzi Furlong won MAAC Offensive Player of the Week honors this past Monday. The graduate student registered 10 points over the previous week, scoring six points between three goals and assists versus Rider, and four points off two goals and assists against Fairfield.
- Mount St. Mary’s is one of two 4-0 teams left in the MAAC, tied for first with Iona. The Mountaineers and Gaels meet each other on April 16 in New Rochelle.
- Stat-wise, the Mount has the third most goals scored in the MAAC and the third fewest allowed. Nationally the team ranks 10th in free position percentage.
SCOUTING THE PURPLE EAGLES
- Despite dealing with roster turnover after their MAAC Championship win, Niagara is off to a 3-1 start with their lone loss coming at Iona.
- The Purple Eagles offense features Maddy Gill, who leads in goal scoring with 36. Assists are dispersed among several players with Hannah Kent the team leader with six.
- Setting up that offense is Sydney Huhtala, a force on the defensive end with 48 caused turnovers, or a little under four per game. Giordan Peck has the most draw controls with 30 while Haley Terry minds the net with 131 saves.
ALL-TIME SERIES
Eight prior meetings between the teams are split down the middle, 4-4. The Mount won the first three games and Niagara won four of the most recent five. In MAAC play, the Purple Eagles have two wins out of three, with the Mount’s victory a 15-14 overtime thriller in 2023.

Mount St. Mary’s takes to the road for two games against Marist (Apr. 12) and Iona (Apr. 16).
