Recently, Clerihan National School was filled with jubilation as former student Donnacha Keeley made a triumphant return to commemorate an outstanding accomplishment.

This year, Donnacha, a 2016 alumnus of the school, achieved a gold medal victory at the Under 23 World Rowing Championships held in St Catherine’s, Canada, partnering with his teammate Ciaran Purdy.

The pair triumphed in the Under 23 Lightweight Men’s Double Sculls category.

As a member of Clonmel Rowing Club and a student-athlete at the University of Galway, Donnacha recounted his journey to students and staff during a special assembly dedicated to him.

The students, full of enthusiasm, asked Donnacha various insightful questions regarding his training regimen, experiences, and the commitment needed to succeed at elite levels.

The assembly saw the presence of special guests, Mayor of Clonmel Michael Murphy, and Councillor John FitzGerald, who joined the school community in acknowledging Donnacha’s motivating victory.

To the excitement of the children, the Mayor proposed a homework-free night to celebrate the occasion, a suggestion that was naturally met with cheers!

Clerihan National School takes immense pride in Donnacha Keeley, not just for his athletic accomplishments but also for serving as an exceptional role model for the students currently enrolled.
