Shelton (16-2) won four matches to win the Battle at the Eagle’s Nest dual meet tournament at Joel Barlow with a 54-27 win over Bethel in the finals.
A week ago, Ridgefield was closing the gap on No. 1 Xavier in the Connecticut Wrestling Online top 10 poll with five first place votes.
East Hartford (13-0) picked up five wins last week including four victories on Saturday over Conard, New Fairfield, Brien McMahon and Fairfield Ludlowe and moved back into the No. 2 spot in the poll with pair of first place votes.
Newtown (7-1), who remained at No. 5 this week despite their first tournament win of the season, had four individual champions and seven wrestlers place in the top four of their respective division at the Gary Tiger Ridgefield Challenge.
On Saturday, Griswold/Wheeler won two matches on criteria. The Wolverines beat Windsor, 41-40, picking up an extra point for having fewer forfeits than Windsor. Griswold/Wheeler picked up a 43-42 win over Plainville on criteria for, again, have fewer forfeits than the host Blue Devils. … Farmington beat Gilbert/Torrington/OWTS on criteria Friday night, 43-42 for having fewer forfeits than the Yellowjackets. Farmington tied the match when Ciyris Livorsi got a pin in the final match (275 pounds) to tie the match at 42-42. His opponent Billy Orellana had Livorsi on his back earlier in the match but couldn’t get the pin. .. Ridgefield junior Leo Moore won an individual championship at the Gary Tiger Ridgefield Challenge and won his 100th career match. … Canton’s Nick Leadbetter won his 100th career bout at the Warrior Invitational. … Bristol Central senior Lincoln Archibald (165) earned his 100th career win against Middletown. Archibald’s father, Brian, also wrestled at Bristol Central and had 99 career wins. … Amity had two individual champions as they beat Platt, 107.5 to 91.5 to win the second Queen of the Hill girls tournament in Rocky Hill. Forty-two teams had girls competing in the tournament.

Newtown is the first Connecticut team to win the Gary Tiger Ridgefield Challenge in consecutive years. Monroe High from Woodbury, N.Y., has won the tournament a record 10 times including a five-year run from 2013-17. St. Anthony, N.Y. was the last back-to-back champion, winning in 2018 and 2019.
Ridgefield (8-0) slipped one spot to No. 3 this week. The Tigers dominated New Canaan on Wednesday, 59-15 but finished second at the annual Gary Tiger Ridgefield Challenge to Newtown, just 4½ points behind the Nighthawks, 212-207½. The Tigers had three individual champions and six finalists.
No. 7 Killingly (27-1) won their fourth tournament of the season with a 42-30 win over Bristol Eastern in the championship of the Shoreline Scuffle in Branford on Friday night. Killingly rolled into the final with victories over Derby co-op, Fairfield Prep and Maloney. Killingly won the tournament for the third straight year.
