Youth hoops camp in Lewiston focuses on fundamentals and fun for grades 1-5 at LC State
LEWISTON, ID – It’s day two of the youth boys’ basketball camp at LC State with grades one through five in attendance.
Coach Caden Lewis is making sure the elementary students understand the basics of the sport.
“We are big on fundamentals, so teaching them how to get into a proper stance, we are dribbling with both hands, being able to come to a complete stop, use your pivot foot,” Lewis said.
Last week, older students had the chance to learn the game. Coach Lewis believes the sport is universal for all ages.
“I think basketball is pretty universal, it all works for every age group, as long as we are trying to teach the foundation and the fundamentals of the game,” Lewis said.
Coach Lewis wants to pass on his passion to the camp attendees.
“The thing I am most looking forward to in this camp is to share some of my passion for the game and to see if the kids share that same passion,” Lewis said.
But LC State wants to focus on more than just winning or losing.
“Develop and progress over time, that is all that matters, so if they can come in here for a week and get a little bit better every day, that’s all that matters to us,” Lewis said.
