AKRON, Ohio – Student-athletes at the University of Akron combined to achieve a department-wide grade point average of 3.119 for the fall 2024 semester.

Collectively, Akron student-athletes own a cumulative departmental GPA of 3.21, with more than 50 percent of Zips maintaining an individual cumulative GPA of 3.00 or better at Akron.
 
The Zips registered 25 Academic All-Mid-American Conference selections among those released across its five MAC-sponsored teams for the 2024 fall campaign.
 
For the fall semester of 2024, 13 of 16 Akron athletics teams achieved a semester grade point average of 3.00 or higher, led by women’s soccer earning a program-best 3.665 team GPA for the semester. Additionally, swimming and diving, lacrosse, softball, women’s cross country, golf, rifle, baseball, women’s track and field, volleyball, men’s cross country, men’s soccer and women’s basketball each surpassed the 3.00 team GPA threshold registering marks of 3.529, 3.506, 3.49, 3.478, 3.42, 3.374, 3.337. 3.273, 3.228, 3.109, 3.04 and 3.033, respectively.
 
The excellence of the Zips in their academic studies was on display as more than 66 percent of Akron’s student-athletes, 293 of 442, earned an individual GPA for the term of 3.0 or better, while more than 44 percent garnered a GPA of 3.50 or higher.
 
Sixty-three of the Zips’ student-athletes garnered a perfect 4.0 GPA for the fall semester, including women’s soccer (14), baseball (7), football (6), lacrosse (6), softball (6), women’s track and field (5), swimming and diving (4), women’s basketball (3), rifle (3), men’s soccer (2), men’s track and field (2), volleyball (2), men’s basketball (1), men’s cross country (1) and women’s cross country (1). 
 
Football paced the combined list with 37 Zips earning between a 3.0-3.99 for the fall semester. They were followed by baseball (22), lacrosse (22), swimming and diving (20), women’s track and field (19), women’s soccer (18), men’s soccer (17), softball (14), men’s track and field (11), women’s cross country (10), rifle (9), volleyball (8), men’s basketball (6), men’s cross country (6), golf (6) and women’s basketball (5).
 
Fourteen Zips earned their degrees from the University of Akron following the fall semester of 2024.
