Founded in 1883, six years before the establishment of the state itself, the University of North Dakota gave North Dakota its name when the former Dakota territories separated into two distinct states. Today, UND is a busy 521-acre campus, the state’s largest. UND has emerged as an innovator in engineering, medicine, aviation and unmanned aircraft systems, among many other fields.

Who: The event is a collaborative effort, hosted by UND and organized by Fenworks – a Grand Forks-based company that promotes esports career pathways to students.

GRAND FORKS, N.D. — The University of North Dakota will host the Fenworks North Dakota Esports state tournament on March 28–29. This exciting event will feature hundreds of students from dozens of high schools across the state, and showcases the rapid rise of competitive gaming in schools across North Dakota.
During the North Dakota Esports state tournament, 48 North Dakota high schools and their student esports teams will compete for the state championship in their respective esports titles.

Founded in 2021, Fenworks (fenworks.com), “the Backbone of High-Tech Activities,” has evolved from a small pilot program into a regional powerhouse, operating in multiple Midwest states to promote esports and drone racing. Fenworks’ vision is to make a difference using technology, competition and play to inspire and create a community where people belong in the next generation of sport.
Background: Several hundred high-school students from across the state are expected to participate. The event is open to the public and free for all participants. For spectators, ticket prices are: adults, /day, and students, /day. Children 3 and under are free, and all UND staff and students are free with a UND ID card.
