BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – (KBAK/KBFX) — There may still be a lot of games left to play, but it is never too early to start considering a teams preparedness for post season play.
Cal State Bakersfield baseball has a 6-6 conference record as the team heads into another Big West Conference matchup this weekend against Long Beach State.
Eyewitness News Sports was at the game as the Runners won the series against UC Riverside this past weekend, and asked first baseman Brock Perreira about his thoughts on how prepared the team is for Big West competition, and what it will take to make strides towards post season play.
“Everyone comes out each day trying to give it their best effort,” said Perreira. “At the end of the day the tournament is the ultimate goal, if we could get into the tournament that would be awesome.”
Head coach Jordon Banfield reflected on what it will take to have a strong second half of the season.
“My thoughts are the same as everyone else, we gotta go play good.,” said Banfield. “We gotta go play our A-, B+ game and we’ll be in a good spot. If we don’t do that, we’re not good enough to beat anybody.”
The Runners will be back in action Friday at 6 p.m. on the road for a three game series against Long Beach State.
