A Tasting Menu is Coming to the NASCAR Track in Chicago

What’s more thrilling than a high-speed NASCAR race? How about carb-loading right where the cars take off? This summer, Chicago Gourmet is rolling out one of its most daring (and delicious) experiences yet: a five-course Italian tasting menu served smack on the NASCAR Chicago Street Race track.
On Wednesday, July 2, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., the race’s start/finish line will transform into the city’s most unexpected fine-dining venue, blending Michelin-caliber cuisine with pit-lane vibes. As part of the Chicago Gourmet Festival’s new “Culinary World Series,” the event marks a high-octane kickoff to the city’s biggest food celebration and a once-in-a-lifetime chance to toast with wine where tires usually burn rubber.
RECOMMENDED: The 25 best restaurants in Chicago you have to try in 2025
The chef lineup is stacked with Chicago stars, including Fabio Viviani (Siena Tavern, Bar Siena), Tony Priolo (Piccolo Sogno), Joe Frillman and Leigh Omilinsky (Daisies) and Steve Maak (Levy Restaurants). The night’s theme: bold Italian flavors, dished out trackside with flair.
Diners can expect signature race-day cocktails from Jose Cuervo (the official tequila of the NASCAR Chicago Street Race, naturally) and a “Cup Series” of wine pairings from legendary Italian winery Marchesi Antinori. There’s even an emcee—culinary personality, Catherine De Orio—to steer the evening along.
Tickets cost $250 per person, and proceeds benefit the Illinois Restaurant Association Educational Foundation, a nonprofit organization that supports the state’s hospitality workforce.
This isn’t Chicago Gourmet’s only sports-forward event this year. Friday, July 25, brings a Duck Dog face-off at the Crosstown Classic, and Wednesday, August 20 features a tribute dinner to Jackie Robinson led by chefs from Virtue.
But the NASCAR dinner is the wildest lap yet. Because why just watch a race, when you can eat a truffled raviolo where the rubber meets the road?

Chase Elliott and Justin Allgaier were 1-2 when contact was made in Turn 1 on a late-race restart Saturday at Pocono Raceway.
But when sophomore driver Jesse Love attempted an inside move into Turn 1, three wide proved to be too tight for driver No. 7 of Allgaier, who drifted wide and into the No. 17 of Elliott.
The two slid high, forfeiting numerous positions and opening the door for Love and eventual race winner Connor Zilisch to squeeze past.
Elliott, who fell to ninth, managed to re-cope his losses to finish fourth.
“[Allgaier] just ran in there too hard and caught a bad section of air, something weird,” Elliott said. “He turned sideways and at that point, I just saw him coming toward my door really fast. What do I do? Give him the space or crowd him and crash?
“It was up to me if we were gonna have two destroyed racecars. At that point, we were screwed. Not worth tearing up the shit for no reason.”
The Cup Series champion was running his final race of 2025 with Hendrick Motorsports, leading a race-high 38 laps. Additionally, he earned his first Xfinity pole since his rookie year in 2014.
But in a game of inches, the critical restart was what ended his chances at winning.
“I have a lot of respect for Justin,” he continued. “We’ve always raced each other with a lot of respect, and have equally as much away from the track, too. I don’t have any ill will against him.
“I hate that he made a mistake with me [laughs] considering it’s my last one for the year.”
Elliott relishes his chances of running the second-tier series before transitioning to his No. 9 Cup car on Sunday.
“The ole’ Hendrick Cars [No.] 17 is pretty fast right now. I was wanting to cash in on that while that’s the case.
“Look, any time you have cars that are that fast it’s fun. Somedays it’s just not totally going to go your way and that was unfortunately us today.”

On Sunday, NASCAR will be racing at Pocono for The Great American Getaway 400! Pocono is a big 2.5-mile flat track where horse power is king but pit strategy rules the day. These races are often run backwards, so teams make as few pit stops as possible to position themselves to be up front at the end (AKA, track position race).
On Saturday, practice was held for Pocono. Teams had 25 minutes, and keep in mind teams have different agenda’s Make sure you check out our Pocono Practice Notes, Pocono 5,10,15 and 20 Lap Average Speed Cheat Sheet, Pocono Group Speed Rankings and Pocono Practice Speeds and 10-Lap Averages.
Here’s the Pocono Qualifying Results/ Starting Lineup.
1) Denny Hamlin
Start 1st / Projected Finish Range 1-6 / Dominator Potential – High
Pocono Outlook – Denny Hamlin is the premiere performer at Pocono and on Sunday in The Great American Getaway 400, look for Hamlin to be a top five contender who’ll be a factor to win. Hamlin’s the winningest Pocono driver in NASCAR history (7-wins), and if you give him 2022 back where he won but got DQ’ed, then he has 8-wins, is 2 for 3 at winning in the Next Gen and would have a 1.3 Next Gen Average Finish. Also in the Next Gen, Hamlin has the best Total Speed Ranking, the best Driver Rating and the best Average Running Position. Last year, Hamlin finished 2nd in Stage #1, won Stage #2, had a race best 5.0 average running position, earned the 2nd best Driver Rating, led 31 laps and then finished 2nd overall. In terms of speed stats, Hamlin had the best Total Speed Ranking and ranked 3rd for Speed Late In A Run. In 2023, Hamlin had a hot rod and raced his way to victory lane. In the race, Hamlin finished 3rd in Stage #1, finished 4th in Stage #2, had the 3rd best average running position (8.3), had the 3rd best Total Speed Ranking and of course finished 1st. In 2022, Hamlin crossed the finish line 1st but NASCAR DQ’ed him in post-race inspection, leading to his 35th. In the race, Hamlin had a 6.1 average running position, led 21 laps and had the 3rd best Total Speed Ranking. In practice, Hamlin had good speed over the course of a run.

2) Ryan Blaney
Start 20th / Projected Finish Range 1-6 / Dominator Potential – Medium
Pocono Outlook – 2-time and Defending Pocono winner, Ryan Blaney will be tough to beat in The Great American Getaway 400. Blaney always shows up with elite speed here and over the last five Pocono races, you could argue he’s been top 6 good, despite what you see in the results column. Last year, Blaney smoked the field in closing time, having the fastest car on the track over the last quarter of the race and raced his way to victory lane. In addition to finishing 1st, Blaney led 44 laps, earned the best Driver Rating and had the 2nd best Average Running Position. In terms of speed stats, Blaney had the fastest car late in a run and ranked 2nd in terms of Total Speed Rankings. In 2023, Blaney was a top five contender but finished an asterisk mark 30th. In the race, Blaney started 14th, finished 8th in Stage #2, led 2 laps, was in 2nd on lap 101 but then Blaney had drive train issues and rapidly dropped back which doomed his afternoon. In segment #2 prior to his issue, Blaney had the 2nd fastest car on the track. In 2022, Blaney was top five good once again but finished 33rd. In the race, Blaney finished 4th in Stage #1, finished 2nd in Stage #2, led 7 laps but then in the last Stage, Blaney had multiple problems. On lap 107 while running in 5th, Blaney had a flat tire. Then later on lap 136 while he was way back in 30th, Blaney crashed. In Group 2, Blaney had the 2nd best 10-lap average and the best 15-lap average.
DraftKings $10,700/ FanDuel $13,500
3) Tyler Reddick
Start 8th / Projected Finish Range 1-6 / Dominator Potential – Medium
Pocono Outlook – In the Next Gen at Pocono, Tyler Reddick has been elite and over the last three races, Reddick has the best average finish (3.3), the 3rd best Next Gen Speed Ranking and the 3rd best Driver Rating. Reddick’s also been one of the safest options in the Next Gen, having a result in the top 6 every race and being one of just two drivers who are 3 for 3 at finishing in the top ten. Last year, Reddick had a strong showing. In the race, Reddick finished 3rd in Stage #1, 10th in Stage #2, had the 9th best Total Speed Ranking and then finished 6th overall. In 2023, the #45 was stout. In the race, Reddick started 7th, finished 4th in Stage #1, finished 6th in Stage #2, earned the 5th best Driver Rating and then finished 2nd when the checkered flag waved. In terms of speed analytics, Reddick ranked 2nd for Speed Late In A Run and ranked 4th for Total Speed Rankings. In 2022, Reddick once again finished runner-up but take note, it did take Hamlin and Busch DQ’s for that to happen.

Zilisch outduels Love en route to first career oval Xfinity win at Pocono

In a day of varying strategies and dramatic restarts among the front runners, JR Motorsports rookie Connor Zilisch prevailed in a late race sprint to the checkered flag in Saturday’s NASCAR Xfinity Series’ Explore the Pocono Mountains 250 at Pocono (Pa.) Raceway – the first oval win of this young talent’s career.
Late race restarts determined the day and ultimately it came down to a duel between Zilisch and his best friend, last year’s Rookie of the Year, Jesse Love. Zilisch pulled his No. 88 JR Motorsports Chevrolet alongside Love’s car as they crossed the start/finish line with four laps to go and then he took the lead for good with three laps remaining – 0.437s ahead of the field.
It was that kind of resolute day for the 18-year-old Zilisch, who had some key help in his headset from a first-time crew chief. His team owner, NASCAR Hall of Famer Dale Earnhardt Jr., filled in for the team’s full-time leader Mardy Lindley, who was serving a one-race suspension.
The two-time Daytona 500 winner Earnhardt, an icon in the sport, not only called the race from atop Zilisch’s pit box, but climbed down and helped out on pit stops too. He was absolutely ecstatic after the race in his debut calling the shots. He’s the fifth crew chief this season to earn his first Xfinity Series victory.
“Just a great job putting us in position to succeed, we had a lot of things go our way, a lot of good luck, good race strategy, had a little help from [his former NASCAR Cup Series crew chief Steve] Letarte,” a grinning Earnhardt said, applauding Lindley’s preparation for the weekend.
“Hat’s off to everybody on this team,” he continued. “It’s been amazing all weekend long. Great race car driver. Connor Zilisch is going to be a big deal in this sport for a long time. A lot of fun for me today.”
Zilisch was similarly exuberant, having to really work hard for this win, his second of the season. Ten caution flags on the afternoon created varying strategies and a real test of restart skills.
“I’ve been dying for this one for a while now; I’ve been so close on the ovals lately,” Zilisch said. “I finished second at Charlotte, second at Nashville.
“Dale Junior, not too bad on the box,” he said smiling, saying he appreciated Earnhardt’s advice throughout the race. “Pretty cool to have him up there. Thank you so much to the entire JR Motorsports team … this one is definitely special. I’ve been chasing an oval win for a while now.”
For much of the day, Zilisch’s greatest challenge up front came from former NASCAR Cup Series champion Chase Elliott, who is competing in both the Xfinity and Cup Series races this weekend. Elliott led the most laps – 38 of the 100 compared to Zilisch’s 34 out front.
Elliott and the series’ current championship leader, JR Motorsports Justin Allgaier were up front on a restart with 13 laps remaining. While contending for the lead, they nearly came together and had to take evasive action up the track not to collide.
Love took advantage of the situation and came through from the second row to stake claim to the race lead in the No. 2 Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet. A caution came out almost immediately after Love moved to the front and that allowed Zilisch to start directly behind him on that final restart – leaving the trophy up to the two friends to decide.
“That’s the most focused I’ve ever been inside a race car. I did not want Connor to beat me because I’ll have to hear about it for a long time,” said Love, with a smile. “Hats off to him. He ran a good race. Once I was able to get a draft I was able to get back to him, but that bums me out, I’m not going to lie. I’m still trying to be grateful we have fast race cars and are in position to win. Hats off to Connor.”
Another rookie rounded out the top three with Kaulig Racing’s Christian Eckes claiming a career best third-place finish in the No. 16 Chevrolet. Elliott rallied to finish fourth and Ryan Seig was fifth in his family-owned Ford.
Carson Kvapil, Sam Mayer, Sammy Smith, rookie Taylor Gray and Justin Allgaier rounded out the top 10.
The reigning series champion Allgaier now holds an 82-point championship advantage on RCR’s Austin Hill, who was collected in an early-race accident and finished 35th.
The NASCAR Xfinity Series moves to Atlanta for Friday night’s Focused Health 250 at EchoPark Speedway (7:30 p.m. ET on the CW, PRN, SiriusXM NASCAR Radio). Hill has won the last three Atlanta races – the most recent this February.

NASCAR Cup Series Pocono race start time revealed

Another week, and we are facing rain on race day once again. The Pocono NASCAR Cup Series race is currently on a delay. Last week in Mexico City, it didn’t matter much thanks to wet-weather tires and all of that. At Pocono, that’s not an option.
Today’s race was set to fire engines around 2:20 PM ET. So, we are clearly looking at a delay past that time. How much past that time? That remains to be seen. NASCAR is going to keep drying the track and working to get it ready for the race.
Unfortunately, no lights at Pocono Raceway for NASCAR. So, this race needs to start no later than 5:00 PM ET if we want to see all 400 miles.
NASCAR has announced a start time of 4:30 PM ET for today’s race. At that point, sunset could play a factor at around 8:30 PM ET if there are further delays. Whether that comes via more rain, lightning, or an unusual number of caution flags.
Driver intros and pre-race ceremonies will still happen. Engines will be fired at 4:19 PM ET.
A race is official when it reaches the halfway point or the end of Stage 2. Whichever happens first. 160 laps, laps in this race, so the halfway point will be prior to the end of Stage 2. Stages are set for 30 laps, 65 laps, and 65 laps. So, lap 80 is where this NASCAR race at Pocono becomes officially official, no matter what happens afterward.
The Tricky Triangle is tricky for many reasons. Three unique corners on the track, the high speeds, and the weather. If it isn’t rain, it’s fog. This track is known for its wacky weather and configuration. Both of those factors will have an effect on today’s race.
NASCAR Cup Series race at Pocono delayed
This race takes about three hours to run. That is with a normal amount of caution flags. However, last night’s Xfinity Series race had a record number of yellow flags. Could that be the case today in the Cup Series race?
NASCAR has a long and proud history at Pocono. There have been so many iconic moments, finishes, wrecks, and wins. You think of Denny Hamlin sweeping the two races in 2006 as a rookie. Ryan Blaney’s first Cup Series win with Wood Brothers Racing in 2017. Kyle Larson vs. Hamlin a few years ago gave us a very recent iconic moment.
It was Blaney last year at Pocono in a dominant performance. He led the most laps and earned his second win of the season for 2024. He picked up a win at Nashville earlier this season, and that speed from Music City should show up again at Pocono this weekend.
Today’s NASCAR race at Pocono is going to happen. We are just going to have a very tight window to get it all in later today. 4:30 PM ET start time, tune into Prime Video to catch all of the action at the Tricky Triangle.

Denny Hamlin earns Pocono pole as William Byron wrecks in wild qualifying session

Denny Hamlin missed the race in Mexico City, but it didn’t seem to impact him as the NASCAR Cup Series rolled into Pocono. With a record seven wins at the 2.5-mile track, it was obvious that the No. 11 Toyota would be fast again, and in qualifying, no one could match his pace. He went to the top of the charts in his fifth pole position at Pocono but his first of the 2025 season.
“Obviously, because I was a little more rested than the field right there, I was able to get a little more speed,” joked Hamlin.
“I mean, I love all of them,” added Hamlin when asked about Pocono being one of his favorite tracks. “Every week, we have a great shot to win and this team just knows what I need out of the car. And with all the cars and tires and everything that has changed over time, you still make speed at this track the same way. I was able to execute it there in qualifying and that’s a good start for us.”

Joining Hamlin on the front row will be RFK Racing’s Chris Buescher, who ended the session 0.083s behind Hamlin’s fast lap. Buescher’s first career Cup win came at Pocono back in 2016. Carson Hocevar qualified third, John-Hunter Nemechek fourth, and Cole Custer fifth in some really impressive runs for both the Legacy Motor Club and Haas Factory Team.

Chase Briscoe, Ty Gibbs, Tyler Reddick, Christopher Bell, and Daniel Suarez filled out the remainder of the top ten.
Qualifying trouble
Watch: William Byron hits inside wall hard during qualifying at Pocono
Four drivers didn’t even set a qualifying time. As a result of inspection issues, Brennan Poole’s team was not allowed to take part while Cody Ware crashed in practice and was unable to do so. Josh Berry’s Wood Brothers No. 21 suffered a broken rear diffuser in the practice, which the team was busy repairing.
And then there was Bubba Wallace, whose No. 23 Toyota would not start when it was his time to go. 23XI Racing tried to push start it but to no avail, and he was visibly frustrated inside the car. A.J. Allmendinger and Todd Gilliland were the two slowest drivers on track, partly because they abandoned their laps after sketchy moments.
But the biggest moment came near the end of qualifying. William Byron wasn’t going to challenge for pole, but he was likely going to be inside the top 10 when he lost control through the Tunnel Turn, spinning out and slamming the inside wall. After posting the fastest time in practice, the team will now have to make extensive repairs as they’ve chosen not to go to a backup car.
Byron’s HMS teammate Chase Elliott was on track at the same time and the incident ruined his lap. Luckily, NASCAR allowed him to put on a fresh set of tires and Elliott was allowed to go back out, but that was only good enough for 18th. Shockingly, he was the highest-qualifying Hendrick Motorsports driver. Kyle Larson qualified 24th and Alex Bowman was 25th.
As for Mexico City winner Shane van Gisbergen, he ended up 23rd, matching his best qualifying effort of the season on an oval.

NASCAR Practice Speeds, Notes, and Lap Averages. Use these NASCAR stats and info to build lineups on DraftKings for the the 2025 The Great American Getaway 400 at Pocono Raceway. William Byron was fastest in the session.
The NASCAR Cup Series ran a single practice session at Pocono Raceway on Saturday afternoon in preparation for the upcoming The Great American Getaway 400 on Sunday afternoon.
The 37-car field was split in to two groups for practice, with each group getting 25 minutes on track.
Below you will find the two groups, key notes from the practice session, as well as the practice speeds for all drivers.
Important Practice Notes
Josh Berry – The rear diffuser on Josh Berry’s No. 21 Ford broke during practice, and the Wood Brothers Racing team had to replace it on Saturday afternoon. Berry will not able to make a qualifying lap this weekend.
Christopher Bell – The No. 20 Joe Gibbs Racing team quickly realized after their session started that the car had no power steering. They seemed to get it fixed and were able to get on track and complete some laps.
Cody Ware – During the first group’s session, Cody Ware spun out his No. 51 Ford in turn three and backed it into the wall. The Rick Ware Racing team will have to repair the car and will not attempt to qualify.
Brennan Poole – The No. 44 NY Racing team is in the field this week with Brennan Poole behind the wheel. The car failed inspection three times on Saturday, which means Poole will have to deal with several penalties, including not being able to make a qualifying lap.
Tough time in inspection for Brennan Poole’s No. 44 car today.
The car failed three times before passing on its fourth attempt, which resulted in the following penalties:
— Not allowed to qualify
— Pass-through penalty after taking the green flag tomorrow
— Car chief ejected…— Jeff Gluck (@jeff_gluck) June 21, 2025
