BetShield offers a complete technological solution to promote responsible gaming, with real-time monitoring of bettors’ behavior on multiple platforms. The platform complies with Ordinance 1,231/2024 and the LGPD, ensuring data security and privacy.

Among its initiatives, Pausebet.com.br stands out, a self-exclusion center that allows users to voluntarily withdraw from betting. In addition, BetShield grants a certification seal that recognizes operators committed to the integrity and security of the sector.

GMB – How did the idea of creating BetShield come about? What motivated you to undertake the responsible gaming segment?

Thiago Iusim – I worked for many years building large brands in regulated markets such as tobacco and alcohol, in addition to working with technology and data in consulting. When studying the betting market and understanding the challenges of responsible gaming, I realized that the solution needed to go far beyond communication.

It was necessary to create technological tools capable of identifying risks in a predictive, independent and multi-operator way. Bettors have multiple active accounts and move between operators guided by balance availability, odds and authorized incentives. Risk is not local, it spreads throughout the ecosystem, and risk management needs to reflect this reality.

What was the biggest challenge you faced in creating BetShield and how did you overcome it? Transforming an innovative concept into reality and having this concept recognized and valued by the market. We still hear from few operators that they already have their own betting monitoring and protection tools.

What we propose is not to replace, but to complement these internal solutions with a layer that no individual tool can offer: independent, multi-operator behavioral monitoring.

How do BetShield’s monitoring and self-exclusion solutions work in practice? How have operators responded?

PcIM (Predictive, Cross-Operator, Independent Monitoring) analyzes betting behavior in real time, detects risk patterns, and sends alerts so that operators can act in accordance with their own policies.

Pausebet is a centralized self-exclusion hub, ready to be adopted by any regulated jurisdiction. The reception has been excellent, as there is a growing demand for best practices and solutions that strengthen responsible gaming, increase retention, LTV, and improve return on investment.

How does BetShield ensure the protection of user data, especially with the entry into force of the LGPD?

We strictly follow LGPD, GDPR and the highest international standards, using anonymization, encryption and information governance processes, ensuring that no sensitive data circulates between operators. Our partner and Chief Data Officer came from the largest brewery in the world, a highly regulated market committed to best practices in data collection, processing and activation. We apply the same security standards adopted by the largest global companies.

How does BetShield position itself in light of the new social responsibility requirements of Brazilian regulations?

We are 100% compliant with Ordinance 1.231/24, but we seek to go beyond the norm. Our technology raises the standard of player protection, strengthens the reputation of operators and minimizes regulatory risks.

Is the Brazilian market prepared to adopt a solid culture of responsible gaming? What is still missing?

We are at the beginning of the journey. With only a few months of regulation, the market is still adjusting, but we see a strong commitment from operators to build a modern and lasting culture of responsibility. Our role is to accelerate this evolution with technology and innovation.

Has BetShield’s certification seal been well accepted by operators? Can it be a competitive advantage?

Without a doubt. Our certification shows the public and the regulator that the operator goes above and beyond what is required. In a market where entry bonuses have been banned, the perception of responsibility and brand strength have become strategic differentiators that can dictate major changes in the sector.

Does BetShield use its own technology? What role does innovation play in the products it offers?

Yes. All of our technology is proprietary and developed internally by a team specialized in software engineering, data science and applied mathematics.

Innovation is at the heart of what we do: big data, machine learning and artificial intelligence make our solutions robust, efficient, easy to integrate and frictionless for the bettor.

Are there plans to expand beyond Brazil? Are other countries on the radar?

Yes. Our modular and scalable architecture allows us to operate in any regulated jurisdiction. We are already in talks with operators and regulators in other international markets.

How do you imagine the future of the betting sector in Brazil in the next five years, especially regarding the protection of bettors?

I see a more mature, transparent and sustainable market. Operators will be better prepared, tools will be more consolidated and a culture of responsibility will be strengthened. The future will be based on innovation, trust and commitment to the bettor.

What message would you leave for operators that have not yet incorporated effective responsible gaming practices?

Responsible gaming cannot be seen as a cost center; it is a strategic investment. It needs to go beyond compliance and be treated as a marketing tool that strengthens brands, differentiates operators and brings financial returns.

We created BetShield with a clear mission: to drive the evolution of the global iGaming sector through innovation.

T-Mobile is set to elevate SailGP with cutting-edge technology advantages, employing its industry-leading 5G and artificial intelligence (AI). This global sailing league will receive critical technological enhancements during the Mubadala New York Sail Grand Prix on Governors Island. As T-Mobile’s exclusive U.S. 5G partner, T-Mobile implements their 5G Advanced Network Solutions (5G ANS), utilizing hybrid and private networks, along with network slicing.

This technology will not only enhance viewing experience with sharper camera angles and ultra-fast data delivery, but it will also empower race operations. By bridging the gap between live sports and technology, T-Mobile aims to provide a more interactive experience for fans and grant teams real-time insights to excel at sea. Callie Field, President of T-Mobile Business Group, remarked on how 5G ANS is transforming live sports, pulling fans directly into the heart of the action, and offering teams new performance-boosting tools.

Fans at home can anticipate real-time HD views and more intuitive decision-making tools for teams. The upgrades mean more cameras for dynamic broadcast footage, including new onboard technology and AI-driven race markers. This setup provides multi-angle views and close-up action shots, heightening spectator excitement.

Autonomous buoys equipped with IoT sensors exemplify a leap in technology. Not only do they collect vital environmental and race data, but they also autonomously adapt to shifting wind and water conditions. Their presence ensures fair, dynamic races while supporting both broadcasting and officiating functions.

Predictive AI technology takes a step further in race management by forecasting and guiding camera angles to capture thrilling action, while assisting in race adjudication through data analysis. This data transfers directly to SailGP headquarters in London, assuring precise monitoring, rule enforcement, and decision-making.

The impressive 5G network by T-Mobile is altering live sports broadcasting capabilities at sea. Traditional broadcast uplinks of 10–30 Mbps pale compared to the capacity of T-Mobile’s network, which supports over 16 concurrent HD live streams. This is achieved without physical hardware, thanks to advanced 5G infrastructure integrating both public and private networks.

Mike Buckley, U.S. SailGP Team Athlete and Team CEO, shares his excitement over this technological evolution, especially for onboard cameras that offer an up-close view of the intricacies involved in racing at high precision levels.

China said Saturday (June 7) it is prepared to accelerate the approval process for rare earth exports to European Union companies and will issue a final ruling on its trade probe into EU brandy imports by July 5.

The developments come amid broader efforts to resolve ongoing trade tensions between Beijing and Brussels. Talks were held earlier this week in Paris between Chinese Commerce Minister Wang Wentao and EU Trade Commissioner Maros Sefcovic, China’s Commerce Ministry said in a statement.

Price commitment discussions on Chinese-made electric vehicles exported to the EU have also reached the final phase. “Efforts from both sides are still needed,” the ministry said.
The ministry added that China “was willing to establish a green channel for qualified applications to speed up the approval process” for rare earth exports.

It also noted that Beijing recognised rising demand for rare earth materials across sectors including electric vehicles and robotics and that it “was willing to further strengthen communication and dialogue with relevant countries” on the matter.

Rare earths and trade friction

China’s decision in April to halt exports of a wide range of rare earths and related magnets disrupted global supply chains, affecting industries from automotive and aerospace to semiconductors and defence. The move has become a flashpoint in EU-China trade relations.

The ministry said it “attached great importance to the EU’s concerns” and indicated it would work to resolve the bottleneck in a timely manner.

Brandy duties under review

China’s anti-dumping duties of up to 39 per cent on European brandy, particularly French cognac, were implemented shortly after the EU imposed tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles. The Chinese measures have impacted major French producers including LVMH’s Hennessy, Pernod Ricard’s Martell, and Remy Cointreau.

French President Emmanuel Macron previously accused Beijing of “pure retaliation” over the duties.

Beijing had initially planned to announce a final decision on the brandy investigation in January, later postponing it to April and now July 5. On Saturday, the Commerce Ministry confirmed that French firms and industry associations had submitted price commitment proposals and that investigators had reached agreement on key terms.

“Chinese authorities are now reviewing the complete text on those commitments and will issue a final announcement before July 5,” the statement said.

Electric vehicle negotiations ongoing

The European Commission said in April it was working with Beijing to consider a minimum price framework for Chinese electric vehicles in lieu of the tariffs imposed in 2023. China’s Commerce Ministry said the EU also proposed examining “new technical paths” related to electric vehicles, and that China was now evaluating those ideas.

Wang also told Sefcovic that China hoped the EU would “meet us halfway and take effective measures to facilitate, safeguard and promote compliant trade in high-tech products to China.”

Code spotted in the latest Pixel Watch app for Android suggests there’s a new feature on the way for the Google Pixel Watch 3 and older models: the ability to have your phone automatically lock itself when it’s out of range of your smartwatch.

This code was found by the team at Android Authority, and while it hasn’t been enabled yet – and there’s no word yet on when it might be – the feature would be a useful security upgrade if you pair a Pixel Watch with an Android smartphone.
