There’s no denying the power of a sports edit.
Overtime chief growth officer Tom Weingarten remembers a Tom Brady edit that “made me love him, actually.” For casual sports fan Kathryn Winn, who writes a newsletter about memes, a Joe Burrow edit finally explained his career arc and appeal to her in a matter of moments. “I love getting my sports news through TikTok edits,” she wrote recently.
But defining what an edit is? That’s more challenging.
“Edits is the term that we’ve all kind of decided on, even though it’s not super descriptive,” Winn said.
Here’s my best attempt …
Sports edits are highly stylized, 15-100 second mini-movies set to popular songs. They often start with an extended single clip before moving to a faster-cutting style, weaving together various moments from a player’s career or team’s season.
… maybe just watch one?
Winn distinguishes edits, which often have narrative weight, from fancams, which focus on how attractive or cool their subject is (and which can be quite powerful in their own right). Others are more liberal with the “edit” label, seeing it as the next evolution of the mixtape.
Both formats have roots in anime and K-pop fandom. They are acts of Gen Z idolatry. But unlike previous generations’ collections of magazine clippings and collages, these are shared as mass entertainment.
“It builds the legend of some of these players,” Weingarten said. “When I think about this next age of big-time athletes—LaMelo Ball, Anthony Edwards, Ja Morant … Those are the players that you’re seeing these edits be based around.”
Other edits spotlight stars of the past—like Allen Iverson, Shaquille O’Neal and Kobe Bryant—or up-and-comers like Class of 2026 recruit Taylen Kinney.
Critically, top edits almost always work in some element of off-court persona, from youth basketball clips to locker room high jinks to ad spots.
“When Overtime first started, a mixtape or a sports edit would just be like, ‘Alright, we put a bunch of highlights together, right? And you put a really cool sound on it’,” Weingarten said. “And now this evolution, especially with TikTok, you see more storytelling in these where it’s not just from one game or from one moment, but instead, it’s like, ‘How do I put this edit together where you feel something, you get emotion, and you feel like you would learn the whole story about one specific player or one specific moment.’”
Whereas YouTube is a place for wows, and Twitter a home for takes, TikTok edits have come to inspire tears.
But not only tears. Last year, a common trend involved unexpected edits, where seemingly random scenes from old TV shows or outdated memes would serve as the lead-ins of a video. Edits can be comedies too, it turned out.
Part of why defining edits is so challenging? The form is new. Edits are evolving. Weingarten’s team tracks small accounts to keep up with the times and draws inspiration from non-sports genres. Fans of Hollywood celebrities have been making similarly stylized edits for years, even if some teenagers crafting NBA videos might be hesitant to connect their work with pieces deifying Tom Holland or Zendaya.
“A lot of these people you’re seeing on TikTok, they’re kids in middle school, kids in high school,” ESPN social media manager Dylan Anderson said. “They’re able to do it on their phones now.”
Anderson himself edited as a side gig while working at a local grocery store before being discovered by current ESPN digital and social content commentator Omar Raja. “There wasn’t too many of us at the time,” Anderson said.
Jordy, a college-age Californian who asked to be referred to by his online username, started making sports edits to share with his friends less than two years ago. In November 2023, a Draymond Green-focused video drew 20 million views.
Jordy kept posting. He perfected his signature format, combining his passions for music, basketball and video editing.
Record labels reached out, hoping to get their songs used in his edits. Athletes contacted him too, looking for some shine.
He has 650,000 TikTok followers now, and when the NFL recently posted a reel of Travis Hunter clips, topped with a Druski meme, commenters wondered if the shield had hired him. Last year, 20-year-old video producer Gage Duchon’s work for the Celtics consistently went viral. Other teams have also let fan edits inspire their in-house style.
Jordy has his sights set on building his own media company off his success, expanding into longer videos and more sports.
But before that, he’s thinking about his next release.
“Right now what’s on my mind is—you know that song, ‘WTHELLY’ by Rob49—I can’t get that song out of my head so …” he said.
If Jordy gets his next edit just right, soon enough the song will be on your mind too.

Why is Deebo getting so much attention?
Team pics are standard practice for every transfer, be it veterans or freshly drafted rookies. However, things took a turn for the worse for American WR Deebo Samuel Sr. when his team pictures hit the internet. While no athlete dislikes attention, “No press is bad press” doesn’t apply here. Let’s talk about what exactly went wrong and why the new Washington Commanders’ WR is getting so much PR.

Deebo Samuel’s Viral Team Picture
Deebo Samuel Sr.’s official team picture was recently uploaded to social media. In the picture, he looked slightly heavier than your average NFL player. Internet football experts were quick to pick up on that and dragged that picture through the mud. Fans were quickly retweeting the post with captions of their own, some inquisitive, but most insulting.
Captions like “He playing the offensive line now?,” “Deebo lookin like the Pillsbury Doughboy in a jersey,” and “Bro is practically busting out the seams” were being thrown around. This all came after the 29-year-old’s transfer from the 49ers to the Commanders, even though he is one of the most decorated WRs in the league.
To make matters worse, his team pictures weren’t the only ones that went viral. A short clip of Samuel’s at minicamp also went viral, with people commenting on his perceived lack of effort. However, George Kittle, Samuel’s ex-teammate, quickly came to his defense, reiterating that it was simply practice where coaches and players go through new formations and plays. He also shut down other online haters by asking them to knock it off.
Samuel’s Performance In Past Seasons
Now the question stands: Is Deebo Samuel Sr.’s performance sub-par? The answer is no. Samuel had the third-highest average among wide receivers in the NFL, with 8.3 yards after catch per reception. Not only that, but he ended the 2024 season with 51 catches for 670 yards and three touchdowns in the air.
This backs up his performance in the NFL, showing that he is one of the top players for his position. Even though his last few seasons did not go as well, the transfer is bound to help him get back in his stride.
Still, the unflattering photo stays up as it is an official team picture, but hopefully, he will stop receiving more unwanted attention.

Getting Prescott back to 100 percent will be crucial for the Cowboys if they want to bounce back in 2025. After an injury-riddled 2024 campaign, Prescott cuold take the team to new heights — especially with the addition of star wide receiver George Pickens.
Last season, Prescott threw for just 1,978 yards, 11 touchdowns, and eight interceptions with a career-low 45.3 QBR.

The Ibiza hotel where Oldham Athletic striker Kian Harratt was seen throwing a plastic chair at a woman, has released a statement on the situation.
Harratt, 23, was on holiday with some mates when the incident happened at the hotel’s poolside.
He posted on TikTok that he felt ‘apologetic and terrible’, though after claiming that he didn’t intend to hit the woman who ‘went down a bit easy’.
The Brit even pointed out in the video that there was a ‘bully’ who ‘started it all’.
Describing him as ‘6’6 and built like a brick’, the footballer claimed he was making people at the resort ‘feel uncomfortable’ with his ‘daft’ actions.
The ‘bully’ has since responded, claiming that they were actually ‘getting along with everybody’ while Harratt’s group was the one causing problems at the hotel.

Now, the hotel where the incident took place, the Marco Polo Hotel in San Antonio, has released a full statement about the shocking incident, which has gone viral on social media.
In a statement to the Oldham Times, they said: “The fight in the pool lasted less than three minutes since our corporate security at the hotel acted immediately.
“No chairs were thrown at any guests; the lady got in the middle, it seems that with the intention to stop the fight,” in contrast to what was seen in the video.
They went on: “The lady was asked by our security members if she wanted to report to the police and file a complaint, but she said she was okay and she did not want to, that she just slipped and she was fine, and she thanked our security members.”
“It took less than three minutes for the incident to end since our security acted quickly, and as soon as they acted, the fighters left the pool area.”
“It really is a shame for us and for our teams to have to deal with this kind of issue, especially when people are supposed to come on holiday to enjoy and have fun, and not to act in other ways,” the hotel concluded.
MailOnline were responsible for identifying Harratt as one of those throwing plastic chairs in the video.
The striker, who scored the National League play-off final winner against Southend United in extra time, which sent Oldham back to League Two, could be seen retreating in the clip.
Harratt claimed in the caption of a clip on TikTok, which showed a different angle and version of events, that he was defending a friend of his.

The man who he accused of being a ‘bully’ alleged punched Harratt’s friend in the face before kicking him after he fell, causing them to get involved.
He added in the caption: “I’d have felt even worse if we left my mate to get badly beaten up while he’s trying to enjoy his holiday,” he said before concluding the post.
“I hope this video opens peoples eyes I had to post it cause I’ve had nothing but abuse all morning and I’m sure this will clear it or so it should.”
LADbible has reached out to Kian Harratt’s representatives and Oldham Athletic for comment.

The 2025 NBA draft had some surprise reach picks, some disappointing slides and plenty of trades on the board. It also had an eagerly watched star at the top of the draft, Cooper Flagg, and a long list of intriguing prospects behind him.

It was the perfect opportunity, with not only a slew of players coming into the NBA, but with free-agency beginning in just five days, to give a thoughtful accounting of teams across the league and where they are heading next.
That’s the role that relatively new ESPN personality Bob Myers was hired to play. With his lengthy experience in the NBA as a talent evaluator both on the team side as the GM of the Warriors and on the player side as a powerful NBA agent, Myers was in good position to offer insight.

As so often happens, though, Myers’ measured tone just could not compete with ESPN’s penchant for sports shouters. And on draft night, Myers’ fellow analyst was Stephen A. Smith, perhaps the throatiest of all sports shouters in modern broadcasting.

For many, watching the NBA draft on Wednesday was an exercise as much in watching the many faces of Myers as it was seeing where the new talent of the league landed.
Kyle Pagan of the popular Crossing Broad blog wrote during a Smith rant on the Sixers, “The Sixers need to save Bob Myers from Stephen A.”
Sloan Piva of Sporting News highlighted the same instance, writing, “The many faces of Bob Myers during Screamin’ A. Smiths rant about the 76ers. You can almost see his thoughts. ‘What am I doing—I was the GM of an NBA dynasty!’ ‘We’re only on pick 3 and he’s already doing the yelling schtick!’”

The photos spoke volumes.
Another user added, “Stephen A Smith has been a disaster on this draft coverage. He won’t let the actual basketball expert speak!! Bob Myers has to be getting so annoyed man!!”
And another pointed out that Myers did, at times, attempt to hit back at Smith: “If you enjoy hearing Stephen A Smith and Bob Myers yell at each other all night, ABC draft coverage is right for you.
And one was rather enjoying the pairing’s awkward fit and frequent yelling: “Stephen A has Bob Myers in hell and it’s must watch tv.”
It was must-watch, at times. Just as often, it was exhausting.

The footballer caught up in an Ibiza hotel brawl has spoken out after a video of him allegedly knocking a woman out with a chair goes viral.
In shocking footage captured at Ibiza’s Marco Polo Hotel in San Antonio, two groups of men were seen arguing at the side of the pool, with a female holidaymaker attempting to diffuse the situation between the men.
As the row turns physical, one man hurls a chair at the other group but accidentally hits the woman on the head, causing her to collapse to the ground.
The man has since been identified as Oldham Athletic striker Kian Harratt, with the 23-year-old footballer since coming forward to share his version of events with the public.
Taking to his TikTok account, Harratt shared a clip of what appears to be taken in the moments before the fight before the fight exploded.

The incident has since gone viral online (X)
In the post’s caption, Harratt claimed that he’d stepped in to defend a friend of his, who’d apparently been attacked after confronting another man for making people feel ‘uncomfortable’ at the pool.
Explaining his version of events, he explained that he hadn’t intentionally hit the woman with a chair, saying it was an accident.
“I picked the chair up and threw it back and it accidentally hit the woman who as you can see went down a bit easy but besides that I was very apologetic and I felt terrible,” he wrote.
The footballer then gave some wider context into what happened in the moments leading up to the brawl, writing: “Here’s the fella who started it all and let me just say he was the worst man you could ever come across and a bully! He was 6,6 and built like a brick!
“Anyways he was swimming over to young couples while there at chilling and trying to make the lad feel uncomfortable flirting with there girls and all sorts off daft stuff like that!”
Harratt went on to explain that a member of his group, who was just 18-years-old, intervened by jumping in the pool and splashing the man.

“After that my mate got out off the pool and the big fella shouted over to him ‘wtf are you looking at’ so obviously my mates said to him ‘I’m looking at you the fella’,” he continued.
The man then allegedly punched Harratt’s friend in the face before kicking him after he fell down, which is the point where the footballer and his friends intervened.
“I’d have felt even worse if we left my mate to get badly beaten up while he’s trying to enjoy his holiday,” he said before concluding the post.
“I hope this video opens peoples eyes I had to post it cause I’ve had nothing but abuse all morning and I’m sure this will clear it or so it should.”
Meanwhile, a man who claimed to be a part of the other group shared his version of events in a post on Facebook, claiming that Harratt’s group were ‘being n*bs around the pool’ and splashing other hotel guests.
Meanwhile, the hotel has since released a statement about the incident, telling the Oldham Times: “The fight in the pool lasted less than three minutes since our corporate security at the hotel acted immediately.
“No chairs were thrown at any guests; the lady got in the middle, it seems that with the intention to stop the fight.
“The lady was asked by our security members if she wanted to report to the police and file a complaint, but she said she was okay and she did not want to, that she just slipped and she was fine, and she thanked our security members.
