The 2025 NASCAR Cup Series continues at Talladega on Sunday, with the starting lineup for the Jack Link’s 500 now set.
Front Row Motorsports’ Zane Smith is Sunday’s pole-sitter after proving the class of the field in the No. 38 Ford, snatching it from Kyle Busch on the very last lap of the session at Talladega Superspeedway.
Busch, though, still put in a strong showing given the dominance of the Ford-powered cars, and will start second in Sunday afternoon’s race in his No. 8 Chevrolet.
Elsewhere at Talladega, reigning Cup Series champion Joey Logano will start third, with Ryan Preece and Austin Dillon set to start fourth and fifth.
Chris Buescher, Austin Cindric, Josh Berry, Ryan Blaney, and Ty Gibbs all round out the top 10 for today’s starting lineup, meaning seven of Sunday’s top 10 are Fords.
With that said, let’s take a look at the starting lineup for the Jack Link’s 500 in full.

Ram will join the field for the 2026 NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series, ending a 13-year break. Today, the brand unveiled a new Ram 1500 concept race truck that previews the design for next year. Returning to the racetrack marks a major milestone, part of a pedal-to-the-metal drive for Ram that covers 25 product announcements over 18 months.
The news of Ram’s return to NASCAR was officially announced by Tim Kuniskis, CEO of Ram brand, during a live NASCAR event at the Michigan International Speedway this weekend. Jaw-dropping moments included a Ram 5500 hauling a custom trailer built specifically for smoky donuts, courtesy of Ram’s NASCAR concept truck. Anderson Silva, Hall of Fame MMA icon, took to the track to shoot HEMI®-branded T-shirts into the crowd.
“For more than a decade, customers and our dealer network asked about getting back into NASCAR. The desire was always there, but we didn’t have a plan that delivered the last tenth and following just didn’t fit our DNA,” said Kuniskis. “Now we have a solid plan that will set us apart from the field and will bring fresh new interest and engagement to America’s motorsport.”
Joining the CRAFTSMAN Truck Series, in a way that only Ram can, is a natural, strategic move for the brand, as more than 40% of NASCAR fans are truck owners. The popular and competitive race series gives Ram a high-performance showcase as it launches a series of exciting and capable new trucks.
“Ram returning to the NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series is a major moment for the sport, and a sign that NASCAR remains a strong platform for blue chip brand partners,” said John Probst, NASCAR executive vice president and chief racing development officer. “We are excited to welcome Ram back to the sport. Its identity includes high performance, durability and innovation – characteristics that embody NASCAR and, specifically, the CRAFTSMAN Truck Series.”
Ram 1500 NASCAR Concept
The Ram 1500 concept race truck unveiled today was molded by the Ram design team. The concept resembles a production truck, adopting elements from the Ram Truck Sport lineup (Warlock, Rebel and RHO), but honed with an aerodynamic signature to slip through the air efficiently, yet with enough airflow to cool a race engine that revs over 9,000 rpm. Body lines around the fenders and grille carry a familiar appearance, framing a large Ram logo that separates this truck from the pack.
The one-off body design is covered by a two-tone Gloss Black canvas with Molten Red lower. The Ram design team created an impactful and exciting livery that complements the visual emotion of Ram’s design DNA and highlights Direct Connection and Symbol of Protest logos. Mopar’s Direct Connection aftermarket unit is adding performance options for Ram trucks and earns prominent signage on the concept race truck.
“There will be more details on our NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series program later this year,” added Kuniskis. “We are undoubtedly having fun with this project, and I truly look forward to sharing information on our team and how getting back on track relates to the future of Ram performance.”
In conjunction with the news, the brand showed off its “Ram-Demption” campaign, featuring Kuniskis behind the wheel of Ram’s NASCAR concept truck at Darlington Raceway in South Carolina, with the iconic Goodyear Blimp and jets flying overhead. Different versions of the “Ram-Demption” video include 60-second, 30-second and 15-second spots that will run across NASCAR media and the Ram brand’s social media channels, plus a long-form video running on www.ram.com and on YouTube. “Ram-Demption” was created in partnership with Argonaut agency.
Ram’s racing news is part of a power celebration that includes a popular demand return of the 5.7-liter HEMI V-8, as orders open for the engine’s availability in the 2026 Ram 1500.
Ram exited factory support of NASCAR’s CRAFTSMAN Truck Series in 2012 after a 17-year run and focused on launching the new 2013 Ram 1500. Ram’s return is one part of a strategy to build on the greatest variety of sport trucks and off-road enthusiast trucks the brand has ever offered.
Ram boasts a rich history of performance trucks, including the Power Wagon, SRT10 Viper Truck, TRX, RHO, Rumble Bee, Little Red Express and Warlock.
In 2004, a Ram SRT-10, piloted by NASCAR driver Brendan Gaughan, set a Guinness World Record for the world’s fastest production truck with an average speed of 154.587 mph (248.784 km/h) at the Stellantis Proving Grounds in Chelsea, Mich.

Ram to return to NASCAR Truck Series: ‘The way we’re going to do it is unlike anyone else’
NASCAR will welcome a new manufacturer at the national level for the first time since 2007, as Stellantis announced Sunday it would begin competing in NASCAR’s Truck Series through its Ram brand next year. NASCAR will welcome a new manufacturer at the national level for the first time since 2007, as Stellantis announced Sunday it would begin competing in NASCAR’s Truck Series through its Ram brand next year.
The addition of Ram gives NASCAR four manufacturers participating in its third-tier Truck Series, joining Chevrolet, Ford and Toyota (all three of which also race in NASCAR’s premier Cup Series and second-tier Xfinity Series). Ram’s announcement marks a return for the brand, which competed in the Truck Series from 1995 through 2016 under the “Dodge Ram” banner, winning three manufacturers’ championships (2001, 2003 and 2004) and two driver championships.
“The way we’re going to do it is unlike anyone else,” Ram CEO Tim Kuniskis said. “The reason that we’ve been out of NASCAR for 12 years is a very tough (return on investment); it is a very tough business decision to make. But when we say we’re back, when we say nothing stops Ram, when we bring the Hemi (engine) back, when we bring some of the other stuff that we haven’t shown you, it makes perfect sense to be back in the (NASCAR) space and back up we’re saying. But again, we’re going to do it differently than everybody else.”
Ram did not reveal which team(s) it will support next year. The expectation is it will have multiple entries on the track when the 2026 season begins in February at Daytona International Speedway.
“I’m really flying with no parachute here,” Kuniskis said. “We don’t have a team. I got a truck. I got the intention. I’m writing a deal with NASCAR. I’m going to Daytona. How I’m going to actually do that? What’s my team going to be? How I’m going to do it? I don’t know. We’re looking for a date to the prom right now.”
Ram’s return has created buzz that Stellantis is eying a bigger involvement in NASCAR, as it once did to great fanfare.
Dodge previously competed in the Cup Series from 2001 to 2012, winning the driver championship with Brad Keselowski in its final year. It exited NASCAR due to financial difficulties at the corporate level and a lack of viable teams. After Dodge departed NASCAR, Stellantis purchased the company and later split Dodge and Ram into separate entities, with Dodge focused on production street cars and Ram on production trucks.
Ram’s reentry certainly opens the door for Dodge to return to the Cup Series. The last time Dodge raced in Cup, it first raced in the Truck Series before eventually expanding into NASCAR’s premier series.
Kuniskis specifically noted plans to expand in the announcement. But Dodge’s return to Cup likely won’t occur before NASCAR finalizes and settles on a timeline to implement its next engine rules package. That rollout is expected to be a few years away, people with knowledge of the situation but not authorized to speak publicly told The Athletic.
Until then, Kuniskis is focusing on Ram’s re-debut next year.
“How am I going to get to Cup? That’s going to depend on how I get to Truck,” Kuniskis said. “So, however we get to Truck is going to obviously weigh heavily on ‘do I have a path to Cup?’ My intention is to not do a one-hit wonder and go to Truck and not Cup. That’s not our plan.”
Securing Ram’s return (and potentially Dodge, too) is a coup for NASCAR, which has worked feverishly for a decade-plus to land a fourth manufacturer. Both league executives and those with Chevrolet, Ford and Toyota have spoken openly about their desire to have additional original equipment manufacturers (OEM) competing in the sport, believing it would further raise NASCAR’s overall profile and increase on-track competitiveness.
“This is something that we have been talking about for a long time, and it’s something that we don’t get to do very often,” said John Probst, NASCAR executive vice president and chief racing development officer. “This is something that is a big moment for our entire sport and our existing competitors, potential new competitors, our OEMs. It’s certainly something that when we work with our existing OEMs, they have made it loud and clear that they would welcome a new OEM into our sport with open arms.”
When Probst was asked what compelled Stellantis to return, he cited many reasons, including an increased interest in the sport that has been reflected in higher television ratings and other metrics, plus the introduction of a more standardized Cup car designed to limit costs and induce greater parity. Probst also said NASCAR is continuing to hold serious conversations with other manufacturers, expressing optimism that a fifth manufacturer will eventually sign on.
“I think this is proof positive of the strength that NASCAR has when it comes to attracting those blue-chip brands to come in and participate in our sport,” Probst said. “We are very excited to welcome them to the NASCAR family — or welcome them back to the NASCAR family. And hopefully that creates a lot of momentum for us to have some more exciting announcements regarding OEMs in the future.”

Alex Bowman, No. 48 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet- Sidelined by damage sustained in an accident in Stage Two.
Bowman on the accident that ended the No. 48 Ally Chevrolet team’s day early at Michigan International Speedway:
“It just looked like the No. 2 (Austin Cindric) got into the No. 41 (Cole Custer) or he was in a bad aero spot, something like that. The No. 41 got loose and at that point, being on the outside, when they get into you, you’re just along for the ride. Really quickly turned the car into the outside wall and it was a massive crash. Hate it for our No. 48 Ally Chevrolet team and everyone at Hendrick Motorsports. We just have to keep digging. It’s been a really bad two months for us, but we just have to keep working hard.”
How do you find the positives when we have a new racetrack next weekend in Mexico City and another couple of road courses in the next five weeks, with this group and speed you guys have had?
“We’ve had a lot of speed and a lot of good race cars. Obviously today, we were off from where we needed to be. But just the support that we have from Rick (Hendrick), Jeff (Gordon) and everybody at Hendrick Motorsports, they’ll give us the tools we need to get turned back around. We just needed to get pointed back in the right direction. We’re a much better race team than this.”

NASCAR ‘very close’ to deal with new manufacturer amid Ram return
NASCAR is “very close” to striking a deal with a new manufacturer to join the stock car racing series, NASCAR EVP, chief racing development officer John Probst told Adam Stern of Sports Business Journal. NASCAR is “very close” to striking a deal with a new manufacturer to join the stock car racing series, NASCAR EVP, chief racing development officer John Probst told Adam Stern of Sports Business Journal. Probst’s comments come as Ram, the Stellantis truck brand, announced Sunday it is re-joining the Truck Series in 2026.
Honda has been heavily rumored to be interested in joining NASCAR. Its arrival would make it the fifth OEM (original equipment manufacturer) to come aboard. With Ram back, it marks the first OEM announcement since Toyota joined the sport in 2004. The time gap between Toyota’s arrival and Ram’s re-joining was 21 years. Probst is hopeful the next announcement will come much sooner.
“Well, I hope it does because I’ll probably be retired if it’s 20 years again. But I feel like — we have said this 900 times to you guys and until today I didn’t have any breakthrough news to announce and today we’re proud to welcome Ram back into NASCAR,” Probst said. “I don’t want to jinx ourselves. But I would say we are very close with one other; can’t speak for them. Obviously, it’s their decision to make — [but] we would love for them to decide to come into NASCAR. And even with that, there’s one or two others that we’re a little bit earlier in the discussions [with] but also looking pretty positive.
“But we also know an OEM deciding to come into NASCAR — it’s a big commitment for them, and it’s not something they take lightly. It requires a lot of research and approvals at the highest levels, and we’re confident right now, we like the position we’re in and think we’re a pretty good investment for an OEM.”
Honda would appear to be the favorite. However, Chuck Schifsky, manager of Honda and Acura Motorsports for American Honda Motor Co., has “no news to share at this time.”
“I am not in a position to speculate as to what Mr. Probst was referring to,” he told SBJ. “I can say that — Honda continues to explore multiple options for our future endeavors in U. S. motorsport. We have no news to share at this time.”
