CONCORD, N.C. – Kyle Larson is used to making history. This Sunday, he can make some more.

Another win in the NASCAR Cup Series All-Star Race would give him four and tie him with Jimmie Johnson for the most all-time. As it stands, he remains knotted with Jeff Gordon and Dale Earnhardt for second.

Not bad company to keep, to say the least.

Chase Elliott is also a former All-Star Race winner, having gone to victory lane at Bristol Motor Speedway in 2020 en route to his first championship.

Throughout history, the All-Star Race has included several formats and locations, but one constant has been Hendrick Motorsports success. The organization is the all-time leader in starts (130), drivers to make an All-Star appearance (23), 11 (wins), winners (five), top fives (44), top 10s (73) and laps led (990).

Here’s a look at how all four current Hendrick Motorsports drivers have fared in the All-Star Race:

At Nashville, Carson Hocevar’s runner-up finish was overshadowed by a run-in with Ricky Stenhouse Jr., where contact from Hocevar sent Stenhouse spinning into the outside wall. The wreck was race-ending and Stenhouse has now fallen below the playoff cut-off line as a result.

Stenhouse indicated that payback was on the table immediately after the wreck, but things have since simmered down after discussions between the two drivers. In a Saturday press conference at Michigan, Hocevar said he doesn’t expect any further escalation.

“Yeah, I mean it was productive,” said Hocevar about talks with Stenhouse. “You know, me and him both have the reputation, I guess, of being aggressive at times and everything. So at that one point, we both reminded each other that even with those reputations, we’ve raced each other very well together, right? It clashes together. So, yeah, I mean we’ve had no issues before, as he had said, and I feel like we’ve had a decent relationship leading up to this.

“I thought it was productive and, based off his comments, I felt like it was received (as) productive.”

It’s fair to say that Hocevar has angered several drivers this year with his aggressive style, and this week, he admitted that he needs to “round the edges off” a little bit. Asked if it was hard to call a competitor after a situation like this, Hocevar really didn’t think so.

“I mean, no, it’s not, at least it wasn’t when me and him [Stenhouse] talked,” said Hocevar. “He owns a sprint car team, so he’s one of the first drivers I’ll go talk to just because I want to ask him about his sprint car team. So, you know, we’ve had that relationship, right? So, I mean, it’s not too hard to call. You just pick up the phone and call.

“I don’t get nervous a whole lot or awkward. Sometimes I am awkward, but I don’t get nervous or anything before those calls, especially when I feel like it’s warranted. You see these guys 38 weekends, so it’s either you call them or you see them here. It’s probably just easier if you just move that timeline up. That’s really the biggest thing.”

Where is the line between aggressive and reckless?

Hocevar has also gotten in trouble in the past for intentionally wrecking rivals, especially in the lower divisions — but also in the Cup Series after a run-in with Harrison Burton last year. The 22-year-old agrees that there is a line between aggressive and reckless, drawing it at “blatantly intentional versus just racing” incidents.

“Obviously, we make a thousand decisions a race, right? And sometimes the only decisions you see, especially when you’re not leading, in front or on TV, the only decisions you see is the bad ones because that causes a yellow and that raises a lot of tension,” said Hocevar. “So, I think every race car driver kind of realizes that at times. Intensity will just pick up, especially with how hard it is to pass or whatever. The intensity just starts picking up at certain tracks. I think everybody can see the line, especially depending on how the race goes. That kind of dictates how aggressive everybody’s being, and that’s sometimes when you start seeing mistakes or, you know, too much aggression.”

“It’s cool to just be talked about”

And while it’s not all positive, Hocevar certainly doesn’t mind being in the spotlight either. “Number one, it’s cool to just be talked about,” he said. “Obviously, you want to be talked about maybe in a different light. But I mean, at least they’re talking, right? And I think that’s big for me. And, you know, you consume it — you see it all. As Jeff Dickerson [Spire Motorsports team co-owner] had mentioned before, he’s like, we’re trying to like round the edges. And then you have your heroes texting you, just don’t change, right? He’s like, hold on, hold on — we need at least something a little different.

“But yes, I mean, ultimately, it’s fun to obviously be in the news. I mean, it’s what I’ve dreamt of my whole life, which is just at least being a topic of conversation. Yes, I mean, it’s cool from that aspect. But you know, obviously, you want to be it when you just dominate a Cup race, and they can’t stop talking about it. That’s probably ultimately the next goal. But, you know, it’s definitely fun to at least see it all or just see my face everywhere.”

NASCAR Cup Series star Kyle Larson was uninjured in a violent crash during a World of Outlaws sprint car race at Plymouth Dirt Track, in which he flipped into the turn 1 catchfence before coming to an abrupt stop on his side. Larson, the 2021 Cup champion, was competing in the World of Outlaws ahead of this weekend’s Cup race at Michigan.

Larson was running second in Friday night’s feature when the axle on his car broke entering turn 1, shearing the wheel off the right rear of his car and sending it into a series of flips at high speed. Larson’s car ended up being launched into the turn 1 catchfence, which caught the car and sent it back to the ground, where it came to rest on its side.

The crash came just seven laps into the race, which was won by Rico Abreu after a late race duel with Buddy Kofoid.

“I think the right rear axle or something broke,” Larson said afterwards, per ESPN. “Just kind of launched me and (I was) along for the ride. Bummer. I felt really good pacing Rico there and just finally catching traffic and, you know, get racing there, but wasn’t going to happen. So, glad I’m okay. Big hits, but all in all feel fine.”

Larson showed no ill effects from his spill at Plymouth in Cup practice and qualifying on Saturday; he qualified fifth for Sunday’s race at Michigan International Speedway. Larson has won at Michigan three times, including his very first Cup win back in 2016.

Hamlin undeterred by ruling siding with NASCAR in lawsuit filed by Jordan-owned 23XI and Front Row

BROOKLYN, Mich. (AP) — Denny Hamlin is unfazed that a three-judge federal appellate panel vacated an injunction that required NASCAR to recognize 23XI, which he owns with Michael Jordan, and Front Row as chartered teams as part of an antitrust lawsuit. “That’s just such a small part of the entire litigation,” Hamlin said Saturday, a […]

“That’s just such a small part of the entire litigation,” Hamlin said Saturday, a day ahead of the FireKeepers Casino 400. “I’m not deterred at all. We’re in good shape.”

Hamlin said Jordan feels the same way.

“He just remains very confident, just like I do,” Hamiln said.

NASCAR has not commented on the latest ruling.

23XI and Front Row sued NASCAR late last year after refusing to sign new agreements on charter renewals. They asked for a temporary injunction that would recognize them as chartered teams for this season, but the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals in Richmond, Virginia, on Thursday ruled in NASCAR’s favor.

“We’re looking at all options right now,” Hamlin said.

The teams, each winless this year, said they needed the injunction because the current charter agreement prohibits them from suing NASCAR. 23XI also argued it would be harmed because Tyler Reddick’s contract would have made him a free agent if the team could not guarantee him a charter-protected car.

Hamlin insisted he’s not worried about losing drivers because of the uncertainty.

“I’m not focused on that particularly right this second,” he said.

Reddick, who was last year’s regular-season champion and competed for the Cup title in November, enters the race Sunday at Michigan ranked sixth in the Cup Series standings.

The charter system is similar to franchises in other sports, but the charters are revocable by NASCAR and have expiration dates.

The six teams may have to compete as “open” cars and would have to qualify on speed each week to make the race and would receive a fraction of the money.

Without a charter, Hamlin said it would cost the teams “tens of millions,” to run three cars.

“We’re committed to run this season open if we have to,” he said. “We’re going to race and fulfill all of our commitments no matter what. We’re here to race. Our team is going to be here for the long haul and we’re confident of that.”

The antitrust case isn’t scheduled to be heard until December.

NASCAR has not said what it would do with the six charters held by the two organizations if they are returned to the sanctioning body. There are 36 chartered cars for a 40-car field.

“We feel like facts were on our side,” Hamlin said. “I think if you listen to the judges, even they mentioned that we might be in pretty good shape.”

NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series at Michigan Speedway Preview

Last time the trucks were racing in Michigan, Kyle Busch still owned a Truck Series team, Corey Heim had not made his first Truck Series start, and we were under a pandemic. Zane Smith, who now races in the Cup Series, took his first of nine Truck Series victories. Can Chevrolet hold their five-year-long win streak at Michigan and get two in a row this year in the Truck Series? Or will the clock strike Heim-Time for the fifth time this season?

Race Preview:

The DQS Staffing and Solutions 250 at Michigan International Speedway is the 13th race of the 2025 Craftsman Truck Series season. The race is a 125-lap, 250-mile race around the 2-mile speedway. Stage cautions are displayed on laps 30 and 60, with the checkered flag on lap 125. The purse amount for the race is a total of $782,900. The Goodyear tires for this race are the same as those previously used most recently at Kansas. Teams will have 5 sets of tires for qualifying and the race on Saturday.

The Track-Michigan International Speedway

Built and opened in 1968, Michigan International Speedway is located in Brooklyn, Michigan, the heartland for Chevrolet and Ford. 2 miles in length, it is known for its record-setting speeds, with speeds being reported as high as 220 mph on the straightaway. With 18 degrees of banking in the turns, 12 on the front stretch, and 5 on the back, it is the perfect setting for high top speeds.

Greg Biffle won the first Truck Series race at Michigan in 1999. There is a three-way tie for the most wins with Biffle, Travis Kvapil, and Brett Moffitt all having two wins at the track. Myatt Snider set the track record in 2018 with a 38.666-second lap.

Truck Series Points Standings:

Here are the point standings for the Truck Series following the race in Nashville:

1. Corey Heim: 566
2. Daniel Hemric: 444
3. Chandler Smith: 441
4. Tyler Ankrum: 406
5. Grant Enfinger: 406
6. Layne Riggs: 395
7. Kaden Honeycutt: 378
8. Jake Garcia: 359
9. Ty Majeski: 356
10. Rajah Caruth: 330

Drivers To Watch:

Some drivers are joining the Truck Series field for Saturday’s race. Lawless Alan will pilot the #1 Tundra for TRICON Garage. Spire Motorsports has a pair of Cup Series drivers in the field, Corey LaJoie in the #07 and Carson Hocevar in the #7 Silverado. Norm Benning is making a start in his #6 truck. Ross Chastain will pilot the #44 for Niece Motorsports. Luke Fenhaus will drive the #66 Ford for Thorsport.

The top two finishers in the 2020 race have since graduated to higher series, with Smith running Cup and Eckes in his first year in Xfinity. Tanner Gray, who finished third in the race, is still on the roster for the Truck Series. I think Tanner can best his third-place finish and get his first win in the Trucks.

If you believe in superstition, you probably believe that Corey Heim is going to win. It seems that Heim can’t win two in a row. With Rajah winning last week, Heim-Time seems almost certain this week.

Tyler Ankrum finished fourth in 2020. He has a win at Rockingham this season and has been running well. I think Ankrum could get a second win at Michigan on Saturday.

Don’t count out the Cup Series talent in the field to steal a win.

How To Watch The Truck Series at Michigan:

Here is the schedule for Saturday’s DQS 250 at Michigan:

Saturday, June 7th:

  • Qualifying:
    • 7:05 AM Eastern
    • Coverage is on Fox Sports One
  • The DQS Staffing and Solutions 250:
    • Noon Eastern

With a runner-up finish in Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series race at Nashville Superspeedway and a victory in a major Super Late Model race at Berlin Raceway, Carson Hocevar has been the talk of the garage entering his home race.

Unfortunately for Hocevar, the chatter hasn’t all been positive. And his team finds itself sharing a garage stall with Ricky Stenhouse Jr. and Hyak Motorsports – the very group that Hocevar upset with contact in Tennessee.

The chatter around that incident – when Hocevar nudged Stenhouse into a spin on lap 106, leaving Stenhouse 39th and damaging his playoff hopes – has dominated much of the week. Both drivers and their fans have argued that the other could have given them a break.

It’s been a distraction amid a promising year for Hocevar and his No. 77 team.

“(Spire Motorsports co-owner) Jeff Dickerson has a really good line: ‘If you’re explaining, you’re losing.’ … I use that in this scenario,” Hocevar said. “This is the focus, now. It’s not a focus of, how do we beat the [47] car, or just winning a race. It’s how do we have this conversation with their team? This driver that we hit? All that stuff.

“That’s the difference. You just don’t want to have those conversations, because you’re not getting faster with those conversations. That’s what slows us down.”

Thankfully for Hocevar, the distraction may not last much longer. Hurt feelings between the teams have been lessened over various midweek conversations, most notably one between the 22-year-old and Stenhouse.

“After Carson called me this week, I definitely see what he was thinking that he could get to the inside of me before we turned down into the corner,” Stenhouse told SiriusXM NASCAR Radio on Friday morning. “(The) problem was, he didn’t. He said that he had committed to thinking he was going to, and unfortunately, just misjudged it and ran right into the back of us. You know, Carson and I haven’t had any issues before, and so, I appreciate him reaching out and just explaining what his thought process was in it.”

Stenhouse later added that he doesn’t “want a rivalry for running 15th. Like, if we’re battling for wins, and battling in the top five week in and week out, that’s great. But having a rivalry not competing for wins, is kind of difficult.”

Squashing any beef with Stenhouse is good for Hocevar, whose aggressive style has caught the ire of various drivers over his early Cup career.

“Me and him (Stenhouse) both have the reputation of being aggressive at times,” Hocevar admitted. “At one point, we both reminded each other that, even with those reputations, we’ve raced each other very well in clashes together. We’ve had no issues before, as he had said. And I feel like we had a decent relationship leading up to this.

“I thought it was productive,” Hocevar said of the chat. “And based off of his comments, it was received (productively).”

Now in his second full year with the Cup Series, Hocevar has made a strong early impression. The Portage, Mich., native had taken three seasons to blossom in the Craftsman Truck Series, but his 2023 run was a four-win campaign that saw him reach the Championship 4.

The potential shown that year led Hocevar to the Cup Series, where he’s quickly become a leader for the growing Spire Motorsports. As the team improves, so do Hocevar’s best runs. The rising star has suffered twice as many DNFs thus far in 2025 (four) as he had in the full 2024 season, but he’s taken part in a three-wide battle for the win at Atlanta Motor Speedway and finished second in Nashville.

In doing so, Hocevar has risen to 17th in points entering Michigan – just on the cusp of a playoff spot in a year where there have been few unexpected winners. His standing is a testament to Spire’s progress.

“You see little teams, they’ll circle their few tracks a year that they can run good at,” Hocevar said. “We don’t really have too big of a weak spot in our game right now. We can show up any week and run really good. We just want to show up and be great in these races.“

With that improvement in performance, Hocevar is finding himself among the sport’s stars more often. He’s rising into contention for wins and could become a playoff contender this fall.

Any rivalries or distractions threaten to undo that potential. But for now, those distractions seem to be minimized.
