NEW ORLEANS, La. – For the second straight outdoor season and fourth straight season overall, sophomore Ashley Sheldon of the Union College women’s track & field team was named an All-Mideast Region selection from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) for the 2025 outdoor season, the association announced last week.

To earn All-Region honors, individuals must finish in the top-five of the region in an event and relay teams must finish in the region’s top-three. With her recognition, Sheldon is the first women’s track & field athlete at Union to earn four All-Region honors, breaking a tie with Noemie Bechu ’17 for the most All-Region honors in program history.

After picking up All-Region honors in the high jump during both the indoor and outdoor seasons as a first-year, Sheldon did it again as a sophomore after posting the fourth-best high jump in the Mideast Region and 20th-best in Division III during the recently completed outdoor season, a mark of 1.67 meters at the Liberty League Championships on May 2 that won her another conference title, matched her program record and qualified her for last week’s NCAA Outdoor Championships. The sophomore also finished the season 16th regionally in the 100-meter hurdles this spring with a top time of 15.39 seconds at the RPI Capital District Classic

Sheldon was joined by several Union teammates in the top-20 of the region as well this year. Senior Cat Dacey had the team’s top individual ranking on the track this spring, placing ninth regionally in the 800 meters with a program-record time of 2:15.63 at the Trinity Invitational. First-year Kyleigh Record ranked 12th in the region and second all-time at Union in the same event after finishing right behind Dacey in 2:16.25 at Trinity. Dacey closed her collegiate career with a time of 4:37.60 in the 1500 meters at the AARTFC Championships to rank 14th regionally, while classmate Gabby Baker posted a 400-meter dash time of 57.86 seconds at regionals to sit 11th in the region as well. In addition, junior Grace Ardito joined Sheldon by earning a 15th-place regional ranking in the high jump with a top mark of 1.51 meters, while first-year Lauryn Johnson (34.37 meters) and senior Lauren Armstrong (32.79 meters) placed 10th and 14th, respectively, in the region in the javelin throw.

To go with the individual efforts, the 4×400 relay of Ardito, Baker, Record and sophomore Kat Doran finished fifth regionally after a 4:00.50 result at the AARTFC Outdoor Championships, and the 4×100 relay quartet of Ardito, Baker, Doran and Sheldon also ranked 14th in the region with a time of 50.23 seconds.

New Book ‘Get Going! With Competitive Swimming’ Offers Insights for All Ages

Just in time for the next swim season, author Mike O’Hare is set to launch “Get Going! With Competitive Swimming” — a visual, technique-packed book now available for pre-order, with shipping set to begin May 29.

About the Book

Written for swimmers ages 9–18 (and the parents and coaches who support them), the book breaks down modern techniques for all four strokes, starts, turns, and finishes — with over 150 illustrations to bring each concept to life. It also explores racing strategy, mental preparation, goal setting, and how to treat others with respect in and out of the pool. Whether new to competitive swimming or refining technique as a high school athlete, Get Going! With Competitive Swimming provides a practical, visual guide swimmers and coaches can return to time and again.

Author’s Inspiration

As a Navy veteran, lifelong swimmer, and former coach, Mike O’Hare was searching for a fun, visual guide to share with his son, only to find that resources designed for youth swimmers were scarce. Inspired to help other young swimmers thrive, he wrote Get Going! With Competitive Swimming. “I set out to create the kind of book I wish I had starting out — clear, visual, and genuinely useful. It’s meant to allow swimmers to take more ownership of their development,” said O’Hare.

Community Praise

“This work is a must-have for a variety of individuals involved in the sport of swimming,” said John Lohn, Editor-in-Chief of Swimming World Magazine. “Its organized approach, complete with detailed images, will enable swimmers to take the next step in their swimming careers.”

What’s Ahead

Early copies have been praised by respected coaches, including Olympic-level mentors and national championship team leaders. A coach’s edition and companion poster set are also in development.

Availability & Contact

Get Going! With Competitive Swimming is available now at www.getgoingbooks.com.

While the 2024/25 Premier League season was one to celebrate for many, there are some who will be keen to see the end of the campaign.

For some, it was a season in which they failed to reach previous heights. There’s an old age saying in football that form is temporary and class is permanent, a sentiment this group will be hoping is true ahead of next season.

We’ve looked at five Premier League players who regressed in 2024/25.

Five Premier League players whose form declined in 2024/25

Phil Foden (Manchester City)

Last season saw Phil Foden fulfil the potential that had long been Manchester City’s worst-kept secret. The homegrown jewel stepped out of the shadow of Kevin De Bruyne to inspire the club’s title success, claiming the PFA Player of the Year and FWA Footballer of the Year awards in the process. Foden scored 27 goals in all competitions in 2023/24 but was unable to replicate those returns this time around.

The 24-year-old scored a respectable 10 goals in 45 games but lacked the star quality that had defined the previous year. He didn’t score his first league goal until December and spent the second half of the campaign on the fringes of the team.
