Patricio 'Pitbull' reportedly booked for second chance at first UFC win against featherweight ...

Former Bellator champion Patricio ‘Pitbull’ will reportedly face a surging featherweight star who recently called him out.

Patricio ‘Pitbull’ Freire will get the second chance at making a great first impression on UFC fans when he returns to the Octagon later this summer.

Pitbull’s UFC 314 promotional debut fell short against former title challenger Yair Rodríguez by unanimous decision. The loss snapped a four-fight featherweight unbeaten streak, stemming from his Bellator rematch victory over AJ McKee at Bellator 277.

After a tumultuous contract dispute with the PFL, Pitbull requested and was granted his release, leading to the all-time great signing with the UFC. While his UFC 314 debut was a formidable test, Pitbull’s second UFC shot isn’t a significant drop in competition.

Patricio ‘Pitbull’ set to potentially avenge UFC debut loss with second Octagon appearance

As reported on Tuesday, Pitbull will reportedly face UFC featherweight contender Dan Ige at UFC 318 in Chicago.

Brazilian MMA journalist Léo Guimaraes was the first to report the news of the Pitbull vs. Ige booking.

Ige returns to the Octagon after defeating Sean Woodson by controversial TKO at UFC 314. The win snapped a recent skid of losses in three of his previous four fights, including his hours’ notice defeat to Diego Lopes at UFC 303.

Ige is looking to get back into the featherweight title mix after recent victories against the likes of Nate Landwehr, Damon Jackson, and Andre Fili. The featherweight mainstay has developed into a UFC fan favorite since his appearance on Dana White’s Contender Series in 2017.

After his controversial win at UFC 314, Ige called out Pitbull for his next fight, praising the former Bellator two-division champion as a ‘legend’ in MMA. At the time of his Bellator departure, Pitbull was widely regarded as the greatest fighter in the promotion’s history.

Alexander Volkanovski rumored to face familiar foe for next featherweight title defense

If the Pitbull vs. Ige fight comes to fruition, the featherweight matchup will take place at a time of uncertainty atop the division. UFC featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski was originally expected to face Movsar Evloev after UFC 314, but the UFC reportedly has other plans for the undefeated Evloev’s next fight.

Rumors are spreading that Volkanovski will face Rodriguez for the first title defense of his second featherweight title reign later this year. Volkanovski finished Rodriguez in a featherweight title unification bout at UFC 290.

A matchup between Jean Silva and Lopes is also rumored for later this year, although nothing has been reported as of this writing. Silva called for a title shot after his finish against Bryce Mitchell at UFC 314.

Pitbull has the chance to catapult back into the featherweight title mix with an impressive performance against Ige.

Rhinos and Elephants Dominate SA Water Polo Series

The inaugural SA Water Polo Winter Series delivered world-class action, record crowds, and a big boost for South African water polo.

Gqeberha, South Africa (12 August 2025) – The Newton Park Indoor Pool in Gqeberha was the stage for a thrilling debut of the South Africa Water Polo Winter Series that took place from 8 to 10 August, where the Rhinos men’s and Elephants women’s teams powered their way to overall victory.

The three-day tournament brought together 112 of South Africa’s top senior water polo players. Drafted into four franchise squads, namely the Rhinos, Buffaloes, Elephants, and Lions. All battling it out for a share of the R224,000 prize purse.

The men’s final was a heart-stopper. After a tense 13–13 draw in regular time, the Rhinos edged past the previously unbeaten Lions with an 8–7 penalty shoot-out win.

“It’s unbelievable,” said Rhinos captain Jonathan Swanepoel. “To have a game of such swings up by two, down by two and then an opportunity to win it at the end with three rounds of penalties  that was definitely one for the spectators!”

The 24-year-old, who has competed at three world championships, believes events like this are vital for the sport’s growth.

“A tournament of this level of quality and professionalism is exactly what this country needs, and what the world needs, so I’m feeling really inspired and looking forward to many more of these to come.”

In the women’s competition, the Elephants were unstoppable, going unbeaten into the final. They led from the first chukka against the Rhinos and held on for an 11–10 win, despite a strong late surge from their opponents.

A high-calibre event indeed, as 2020 Tokyo Olympian and veteran of four world championships, Nicola Macleod praised the franchise system for its competitive balance.

“I’m so proud of the team,” said Elephants captain Nicola. “Last night we had to play catch up, so we weren’t going to do that again. Being out in front gave us a lot more composure, as you don’t necessarily need to score, you just have to make sure you don’t concede.”

Bronze went to the Buffaloes men’s team with a 13–11 win over the Elephants, while the Lions women claimed a 10–8 victory over the Buffaloes.

Tournament director Siegfried Lokotsch was thrilled with the response.

“The standard of water polo on display and the level of intensity was incredible. I haven’t seen water polo like that in at least 15 years,” he said. “For a first event, the vibe was also fantastic… we got much more support than we anticipated.”

The Winter Series, the first national tournament under South Africa Water Polo (SAWP), also hosted a development clinic for 68 young players. This included those from under-resourced communities. Coached by big names in the water polo fraternity like Lwazi Madi, Kelsey Thomson, and Chad Roman.

It was a weekend of high-intensity action and big wins.

NBA Scout Expects Lakers' Luka Dončić to Win MVP, Scoring Title Next Season

An NBA scout who was in attendance to watch Slovenia play Germany during a EuroBasket friendly was amazed by how “incredible” Los Angeles Lakers superstar Luka Dončić looked.

Dončić has lost 30 pounds since last summer, a league source told DallasHoopsJournal.com.

“Man, he looks incredible,” the NBA scout told DallasHoopsJournal.com. “He’s quicker and more explosive. He’s getting by people more easily. I think he’s on a mission, man. I think he’s gonna win MVP and the scoring title next season. He wants to get revenge on Dallas for basically fat-shaming him.”

Dončić led the NBA in points per game during the 2023-24 season. He averaged 33.9 points.

The Dallas Mavericks traded Dončić last season because general manager Nico Harrison had issues with the five-time All-Star’s weight, diet, work ethic and conditioning. Dončić dealt with a serious calf injury last season, preventing him from getting into the elite shape he’s in right now.

One of the best players in the NBA, Dončić played in 28 games with the Lakers last season after the Mavericks shockingly traded him in February. The skillful point-forward averaged 28.2 points, 8.1 rebounds and 7.5 assists with the purple and gold.

Los Angeles lost to the Minnesota Timberwolves in the first round of the 2025 postseason in five games, but Dončić played well offensively, averaging 30.2 points, 7.0 rebounds and 5.8 assists despite being “out of shape.”

Dončić, 26, signed a three-year, $165 million extension with the Lakers on August 2. He recruited Deandre Ayton and Marcus Smart to Los Angeles this offseason.

“I’m really grateful to the Lakers organization, my teammates and the fans for welcoming me and my family with so much support and kindness since day one,” Dončić said after signing his extension. “This is an amazing organization, and I truly believe in what we’re building together.

“I’m going to keep working as hard as I can to bring another championship to Los Angeles and to make Laker Nation proud. This is just the beginning. I’m excited for what’s ahead and to keep building something special with this team.”

Dončić enters next season with career averages of 28.6 points, 8.6 rebounds and 8.2 assists with the Mavericks and Lakers. He’s third in NBA history in points per game, trailing only NBA icons Michael Jordan (30.12) and Wilt Chamberlain (30.07).

Lakers second-year head coach JJ Redick is expected to start Luka Dončić, Austin Reaves, Rui Hachimura, LeBron James and Deandre Ayton next season. Dončić is looking to win his first NBA title. He lost to the Boston Celtics in the 2024 NBA Finals with the Mavericks in five games.

If the ESPN & FOX One Bundle Isn't Enough —Here's What Happens When You Add ...

If you care about live games, critically acclaimed documentaries, and every possible angle on sports, the new ESPN DTC–FOX One bundle for $39.99 is a powerful foundation, but it’s only the beginning.

For sports streamers who need to fill their gaps in other linear broadcast sports from the Big Three and Warner Bros. Discovery, adding Peacock, HBO Max, and Paramount+, you’ll have a near-complete streaming setup for the sports-crazy household.

The latest bundle between FOX and ESPN highlights how much the sports streaming landscape has changed since earlier this year. Venu Sports, a joint venture sports-streaming app between Warner Bros. Discover, FOX, and ESPN, was set to launch at $42.99 per month; however, the idea was scrapped as the companies chose to focus on their existing offerings.

With a growing number of sports fans becoming frustrated with fragmentation, figuring out where and what to watch can sometimes be challenging. Many are preparing for the upcoming NFL season and other fall sports to adjust their budgets accordingly.

Find out below why each service is worth adding, what kinds of sports and events they typically bring to the table, and exactly how much the combinations will cost based on the plans you provided.

The Price of Streaming for Sports Fans

As cable subscribers continue to decline, fans of sports that air on traditional TV, including NBC, CBS, and the Turner Networks (TNT, TBS, truTV), have added Peacock, Paramount+, and HBO Max, respectively. With the news of the FOX-ESPN bundle, the chart below shows how much it would cost to add the other three services to your arsenal.

What is the ESPN-Fox Bundle

The ESPN and FOX One bundle brings both companies’ direct-to-consumer offerings under one roof for only $39.99. The bundle is set to launch on Thursday, October 2. However, each service is set to launch sooner individually, and here’s what they include:

ESPN DTC

For many, the ESPN app is a must-have as it has nearly everything for every sports fan. The flagship direct-to-consumer app will launch on Thursday, August 21, at $29.99 per month. With the app, subscribers get access to all of ESPN’s linear networks, streaming content from ESPN+, ESPN3, SECN+, ACCNX, and cover an estimated 47,000 live events annually.

FOX One

The FOX One app launches on the same date as the ESPN app and brings FOX’s content without the hassle of the cord. FOX One packs the company’s entertainment, news, and sports content together for as low as $19.99 per month or $199.99 per year. Highlights from the FOX brand that will be available include FOX News Channel, FOX Business Network, FOX Weather, FOX Sports, FS1, FS2, FOX Deportes, B1G, FOX Local Stations, the FOX Network, FOX Nation, and B1G+. FOX Sports offers the NFL, MLB, NASCAR, NCAA sports (college football and basketball), FIFA World Cup, IndyCar, horse racing, MLS, and international soccer.

Why Add Peacock

  • Peacock Overview (Plans, Pricing & What to Watch):
    • Premium: $10.99 per month | $109.99 per year
    • Premium Plus: $16.99 per month | $169.99 per year
    • Sports to Watch: NFL, PGA Tour, WWE, NBA, NASCAR, College Sports, Premier League & More
  • Watch Peacock Today

Peacock is a smart add for viewers who want broad, event-driven coverage beyond what the ESPN-FOX bundle covers, as it complements:

  • Marquee matchups during the NFL season with Sunday Night Football
  • Big-time matchups on the hardwood throughout the NBA and WNBA seasons
  • Soccer and international competition, including the Premier League on NBC/Peacock feeds and studio shows.
  • WWE Network (WWE PLEs*, archives, and original content)— *this changes in 2026
  • Olympic and major-event coverage, plus replay libraries and live-streamed niche sports produced by NBC Sports.
  • College athletics, including college basketball and football featuring the Big Ten, Notre Dame and more.
  • Live golf during the collegiate season and the LPGA and PGA Tour
  • Racing, including the Kentucky Derby and Thoroughbred Racing, and motorsports like NASCAR, SuperMotorcross, and other top leagues

Peacock brings the NBC Sports’ lineup that fills the “big occasional event + deep archive” gaps. It offers hundreds of live events you might not get on ESPN or FOX, and on-demand replays and extras that make bingeing highlights easy.

Beyond sports, Peacock gives you thousands of shows, movies, and original content, including the library of NBC, Bravo, and other popular networks. You can choose the Peacock Premium plan, which includes ads, or upgrade to Peacock Premium Plus to watch without ads and get access to your local NBC station. Peacock also offers student discounts and savings for adults aged 18-24.

Why Add HBO Max

  • HBO Max Overview (Plans, Pricing & What to Watch):
    • Basic: $9.99 per month | $99.99 per year (No Sports)
    • Standard: $16.99 per month | $169.99 per year
    • Premium: $20.99 per month | $209.99 per year
    • Bundle with Hulu & Disney+ (With Ads): $16.99 per month (No Sports)
    • Bundle with Hulu & Disney+ (No Ads): $29.99 per month
    • Sports to Watch: NASCAR, AEW, MLB, NHL, March Madness, College Football, French Open, U.S. Soccer & More
    • Watch HBO Max Today

HBO Max isn’t primarily a live-sports destination, but it completes a sports lineup by offering premium context and storytelling:

  • Feature-length sports documentaries, behind-the-scenes series, and long-form analysis.
  • Event specials and occasional live-sports tie-ins that are great for fans who value background, history, and high-end production on the biggest sports stories.
  • A rotating catalog of sports films and premium TV that rounds out game-day viewing (pre/post-game film nights, biopics, documentaries).

HBO Max will look different after the completion of the Warner Bros. Discovery spin-off of its linear network. Until then, subscribers can find a solid lineup of sports content airing on TNT, TBS, and truTV on the platform.

The USMNT, USWNT, AEW, March Madness, Big 12 sports, Big East men’s and women’s basketball, College Football Playoffs, NHL, MLB, NASCAR, tennis, The Match, French Open, Savannah Bananas, and Unrivaled are just a few of the highlights that fall under the TNT Sports portfolio, you can stream live on HBO Max with the Standard or a higher tier plan.

Like Peacock, HBO Max offers a large library of on-demand content, including premium shows, reality TV, Discovery content, and thousands of hours of entertainment. If you want the storytelling and premium-content layer on top of live-game coverage, add HBO Max to your lineup. Also, the platform offers a student discount.

Why Add Paramount+

  • Paramount+ Overview (Plans, Pricing & What to Watch):
    • Essential: $7.99 per month | $59.99 per year
    • Premium: $12.99 per month | $119.99 per year
    • Sports to Watch: NFL, WNBA, PGA Tour, NCAA Basketball + Football, March Madness, Big 3, NWSL & More
    • Try Paramount+ for 7 Days Free

Paramount+ is the natural complement to the ESPN–FOX bundle for U.S. broadcast-driven sports as it features a diverse sports lineup:

  • CBS Sports content (NFL games carried by CBS, college football/basketball games on CBS, Army-Navy and Big Ten, Pac-12, Mountain West packages).
  • Golf coverage, including the Masters and PGA Tour rights held by CBS
  • Marquee WNBA matchups, WSL, and NWSL games highlight women’s sports on the platform
  • European club soccer and tournament feeds from UEFA, Serie A, USL Championship, AFC Asian Cup and others
  • Additional live coverage from regional/league partners and plenty of replay access.

Beginning next year, combat sports fans can find the Octagon on Paramount+ after the UFC agreed to an exclusive rights deal. Adding Paramount+ gives you the broadcast-rights muscle for key national matchups and marquee league windows that pair well with ESPN and FOX event stacks.

The Paramount+ Essential plan includes ads, and you get access to the NFL on CBS, UEFA Champions League, over 40,000 movies and shows, up to 3 simultaneous streams, and select SHOWTIME Originals. Upgrade to Premium and get an ad-free experience, full access to the SHOWTIME library, download movies and shows, and watch your local CBS feed for even more live sports and events.

Cord cutters who utilize Walmart+ can watch Paramount+ for free. Those going back to school save 50% with the Paramount+ student discount. The platform offers a 7-day free trial and you can sign up below.

Other Streamers Beyond the Traditional Networks

Outside of the Big Four broadcast networks and the Turner Networks, many tech companies have acquired rights to live sports. Some other options you may want to consider are:

  • Netflix: Starts at $7.99 per month, offers WWE Raw, boxing, the NFL on Christmas, select live events + thousands of shows, movies, documentaries and more
  • Prime Video: Starts at $8.99 per month after a 30-day free trial, includes NFL, NBA, WNBA, NASCAR, boxing, and more than 25,000 titles
  • Apple TV+: Starts at $9.99 per month after a 7-day free trial, includes MLB Friday Night Baseball, critically acclaimed shows, and movies. Additionally, MLS Season Pass on Apple TV features every MLS game without blackout restrictions.
  • NFL Sunday Ticket: The official home of live NFL out-of-market games streams on YouTube and YouTube TV, starting at $23 per month. (find out more here)

The greatest sports documentaries ever made
Stadium Talk

You don’t have to know the rules of rugby or follow Formula 1 to enjoy a good sports documentary. The best ones aren’t really about scores or stats, but about personalities, pressure, obsession, and sometimes, redemption. This article compiles 15 standout documentaries that keep fans and non-fans equally hooked.

Free Solo

Credit: IMDb

This Oscar-winning documentary tracks Alex Honnold’s free climb of El Capitan without ropes. The danger is obvious, but what keeps the film tense is Honnold himself: he’s methodical, emotionally distant, and completely at home thousands of feet off the ground.

Hoop Dreams

Credit: IMDb

Steve James spent nearly a decade following two Chicago teens with NBA ambitions. Arthur Agee and William Gates battle setbacks both on and off the court in a film that changed how people thought about documentaries. Roger Ebert called it the best film of the 1990s, and he wasn’t alone.

The Last Dance

Credit: IMDb

Everyone remembers the Bulls’ dominance, but this 10-part ESPN series dives into what fueled it. Michael Jordan tells his version with the grudges and all. There’s nostalgia, but also messiness: Scottie Pippen’s contract, Dennis Rodman’s Vegas detours, and locker-room tensions that the polished NBA branding never showed.

Senna

Credit: IMDb

This documentary has no narrator, just voiceovers and footage that immerse you in Ayrton Senna’s fast, complicated life. Brazilian director Asif Kapadia creates a tense, emotional story of a driver who became a national hero and vanished at 34 on the racetrack. It’s compelling even for those who’ve never watched a race.

The King Of Kong: A Fistful Of Quarters

Credit: IMDb

Who knew a Donkey Kong high score chase could be this gripping? Billy Mitchell plays the villain. Steve Wiebe, the soft-spoken underdog, challenges for his title from a garage. The geeky niche film becomes a surprisingly emotional showdown between two men whose lives revolve around a joystick and a set of digits.

Icarus

Credit: IMDb

Filmmaker Bryan Fogel wanted to test doping in cycling. His source, Dr. Grigory Rodchenkov, became a whistleblower in hiding. As part personal experiment, part international thriller, this Oscar-winning doc flips genres midstream and exposes one of the biggest scandals in Olympic history.

When We Were Kings

Credit: IMDb

This one captures the 1974 Rumble in the Jungle—Ali vs. Foreman—but it’s not just about the fight. Directed by Leon Gast, it’s as much about culture and politics as it is about boxing. The fight in Zaire becomes a symbol of Black pride, global attention, and Ali’s genius both in and out of the ring.

Dogtown And Z-Boys

Credit: IMDb

Before skateboarding was a billion-dollar industry, it was a handful of surf kids in empty backyard pools. Stacy Peralta, one of the original Z-Boys, directs this firsthand account of how a Venice, California crew flipped skating into an art form.

Murderball

Credit: IMDb

The film shows wheelchair rugby players colliding at full speed and then talking trash afterward. Directors Henry Alex Rubin and Dana Adam Shapiro follow Team USA as they prepare for Athens 2004. Beyond the bruises and rivalries, the film profiles men rebuilding their lives after injury.

O.J.: Made In America

Credit: IMDb

Ezra Edelman’s five-part documentary does what few films manage: it explains O.J. Simpson’s rise and fall without simplifying any part of it. Yes, there’s football. But more crucially, there’s race, celebrity, the LAPD, and how American media turned a man into a myth, and then into a warning.

Undefeated

Credit: IMDb

This is a story of mentorship, missed chances, and what happens when someone believes in you more than you do. The Manassas Tigers were used to losing, but everything changed when coach Bill Courtney arrived. This Memphis-based high school football doc won an Oscar for its heart.

Diego Maradona

Credit: IMDb

Asif Kapadia returns with a wild ride through the life of the Argentine soccer icon. Maradona’s brilliance on the pitch—especially during his Napoli years—is matched by chaos off it. The film is stitched entirely from archival footage and audio, with no traditional interviews.

Formula 1: Drive To Survive

Credit: IMDb

Formula 1 has always had fans, but this Netflix series has turned it into a global obsession. The cameras positioned everywhere introduced viewers to the sport’s real characters. Each season followed a new batch of rivalries and surprises.

Athlete A

Credit: IMDb

What took decades to uncover is laid out in this documentary about the USA Gymnastics scandal. Directors Bonni Cohen and Jon Shenk spotlight the reporters from The Indianapolis Star who broke the story, along with the gymnasts who came forward. It’s not easy viewing, but it’s clear and powerful.

100 Foot Wave

Credit: IMDb

Big-wave surfer Garrett McNamara heads to Nazaré, Portugal, chasing the world’s tallest rideable swell. This HBO docuseries digs into the obsession behind the sport, the science of the waves, and the tightrope between ambition and danger.
