The American Red Cross is pleased to announce that Red Cross Shelter Simulation Training will be held at Lake Arrowhead Presbyterian Church on July 19th from 8am to 3pm.
The last Red Cross Shelter that was opened in our communities was during the major snowstorm that impacted us over two years ago. That shelter was established at Rim of the World High School. To be more effective, we need more trained volunteers to staff a shelter should that need rise again. Since that time Lake Arrowhead Presbyterian Church has been approved as a potential shelter location. Recently the Red Cross established shelters for the fires that impacted the Altadena community and the Pacific Palisades communities. In the past week, shelters have been opened for the Lake Fire, Wolf Fire and the Juniper Fire.
We know that natural disasters can potentially impact us in the future. Those disasters might be caused by wildfires, flooding, earthquakes, and additional weather-related occurrences. Shelters will be needed to support our residents, who need to evacuate their homes.
Shelter Simulation provides practical experience on how to conduct the various tasks required to maintain a shelter. Please join us to learn how you can support the members of our community with the skills needed to establish and maintain a Red Cross Shelter, when needed in the future. Please sign up by emailing Erin Fox at erin.fox@redcross.org
That location again is Lake Arrowhead Presbyterian Church, 351 – CA173, Lake Arrowhead, CA.
