Several city and area wrestlers competed in the MHSAA girls district round on Sunday.Area teams Athens, Bellevue, Bronson, Colon, Galesburg-Augusta, Homer, Tekonsha and Union City competed in a Division 4 district at Bellevue.Host Lakeview was second with 609.20 and Pennfield third at 628.98.The group all finished in the top four of district action, earning them a spot in the MHSAA individual regional round next week.

Climax-Scott/Martin had four district champs, including Sam Bleeker (215), Logan Gilbert (120), Haylen Buell (144), Gixxer Blair (150),The inaugural All-City Competitive Cheerleading competition was held at Lakeview High School on Saturday.Harper Creek hosted a Division 2 district and led the city with seven wrestlers punching their ticket to the next round.

The Beavers finished with one district champ. Defending state champ Devan Garcia won a district title at 120 pounds with a 6-3 decision over Lowell’s Cole Cichocki.Olivet competed in a Division 3 district at Williamston as the Eagles pushed four wrestlers through to regionals. Olivet had a district champs in Van Wirtz and 150. Earning top four spots for Olivet were Ben Kelenske (190) in third, Joe LaSalle (215) in third, Jace Morris (150).A state finalist a year ago, Harper Creek’s Alexandra Stiltner won a district title at 120 pounds, defeating Madelyn Baker of Eau Claire in the finals by pin in 1:08.

Division 1 at Howell

From the area, Bronson’s Mackenna Webster (140) and Homer’s Zionah Gardner (115) were also district champs.

Division 3 at Williamston

The top four wrestlers in each weight class at the districts qualified for regionals. Other area wrestlers moving on included Bronson’s Kailynn Scare (2nd at 190), Natalie Ives (4th at 235), Madelynne Hawthorne (2nd at 105), Bailee Deller (3rd at 105), Aubreonna Armstrong (2nd at 110), Arika Shepherd (4th at 140), Alexis Thomas (3rd at 145).

Division 4 at Bellevue

The Spartans’ Trevor White finished fourth at 150 points and is 25-10 on the season as he was the lone city wrester to advance to regionals in Division 1.
