Global esports company Team Liquid announced a new partnership with Zenni Optical, naming the leading online retailer as its official eyewear partner.

The partnership marks a shared commitment to protecting eye health in esports while offering fans and players stylish, high-performance eyewear at an accessible price.

As digital competition intensifies and screen time increases, the need for eye care in gaming is growing in importance. This partnership reflects a mutual vision: prioritizing the health and performance of gamers without compromising on style or affordability.

As part of the collaboration, Zenni will release an exclusive Team Liquid eyewear collection, combining Zenni’s innovative frame and lens technologies with Team Liquid’s creative identity. As leaders in the health and performance of esports athletes, Team Liquid’s eyewear collection will focus on reducing gaming-related complications without compromising comfort and style. Fans will also gain access to exclusive discounts, further enhancing the value Zenni brings to the gaming community.

“Our players’ vision is just as critical as their mechanics. Partnering with Zenni lets us elevate both health and performance, while giving our fans access to affordable eyewear that looks and feels great,” said Steve Arhancet, co-CEO of Team Liquid, in a statement. “We’re thrilled to bring this partnership to life, both on and off the stage.”

Four Team Liquid stars from its League of Legends, Counter-Strike, and fighting game rosters will lead Team Liquid’s content and messaging — highlighting their favorite frames on stream and across social media, while reinforcing the importance of eye health at every level of competitive gaming.

“This partnership reflects our ongoing commitment to advancing health, performance, and innovation in the gaming and esports space,” said Robb Chiarini, head of partnerships, licensing, and events at Zenni Optical, in a statement. “Team Liquid is not only a leader in competitive excellence, but also in championing player wellness and long-term sustainability within the industry. We’re proud to support their athletes and fans with products that enhance visual clarity, comfort, and style.”

The partnership announcement will roll out across Team Liquid’s official social channels, with additional content and behind-the-scenes activations to follow throughout the year.

Team Liquid is an esports and gaming organization founded in 2000 in Utrecht, the Netherlands, and led by its founder and co-CEO Victor Goossens, and Arhancet. The organization has 96 athletes competing across multiple esports titles, including League of Legends, CounterStrike2, Dota 2, Valorant, Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, Rainbow Six Siege, Fortnite, PUBG: Mobile, and more. It has won more than $54 million in prize money from over 7,000 tournaments throughout its history.

In addition to its premier esports team franchises, Liquid Enterprises operates various business units created to complement its athletic brand. This includes a white-label apparel business, working within the wider entertainment and music industry with musicians like DeadMau5, the world’s most popular esports wiki Liquipedia, and a full-service white-label agency; LiquidMedia with clients such as Riot Games and Nike.

In September 2016, controlling interest in Team Liquid was purchased by esports ownership group, AXiomatic. AXiomatic leadership includes co-executive Chairmen Peter Guber, Ted Leonsis, Jeff Vinik, and Bruce Karsh.

The league includes students from schools including Alvernia University, Columbia College, Cumberland University, Fisher College, Harrisburg University, Rochester Institute of Technology, San Jose State University, Stony Brook University, Syracuse University, the University of Akron, the University of Maryland, the University of South Florida, and Virginia Tech.

“This is more than just the launch of a league – it’s about setting a new standard for collegiate esports,” explains Jon Chapman, CEO at PlayVS. “By creating a unified competitive pipeline from middle school to college, we’re powering gameplay and helping shape gamers’ futures. The PCL gives students an opportunity to grow, lead, and build a community, while offering schools a platform that rivals the professionalism and structure of traditional athletics.”

Earlier this year, PlayVS announced plans to “usher in a new era for competitive gaming” with the acquisition of Generation Esports and Playfly College Esports. PlayVS will integrate Generation Esports and Playfly College Esports into its leading amateur esports platform, creating a single platform for elementary, middle, high school, and college programs.

Mines Basketball’s first all-American, Joe Butkovich ’72 joins the Harry D. Campbell Oredigger Hall of Fame in recognition of his record-breaking career for the Orediggers as a member of its Class of 2025.

A prolific scorer and rebounder in the post, Butkovich was named an all-American as a senior in 1971-72, the Orediggers’ first national honoree. Upon the conclusion of his career, Butkovich was Mines’ all-time rebounding leader with 891 and third on Mines’ all-time scoring list with 1,641 points. More than 50 years after graduating, he still owns Mines’ career and season per-game rebounding records of 11.7 and 12.3 (1970-71) rebounds per game, respectively, and he also set the record (since broken) for season scoring average with 24.9 points per game in 1971-72; today he ranks third in that category. That senior season saw him lead the RMAC in scoring and rank among the NCAA and NAIA national leaders in both scoring and rebounding, and his top individual games were a 37-point night against Western New Mexico (the Mines single-game record at the time) and 20 rebounds against UMKC. 

Butkovich earned his degree in engineering from Mines in 1972. His post-collegiate basketball career included tryouts with the Denver Nuggets and Chicago Bulls, and he played professionally in France and Belgium before returning stateside to work as an engineer, spending much of his career dismantling chemical weapons across the United States. 

The Harry D. Campbell Oredigger Hall of Fame Class of 2025 will continue to be announced on minesathletics.com during the week of July 28, leading up to the ceremony on Saturday, Oct. 4 as part of Homecoming Weekend. Tickets are now on sale for the event.

Esports platform PlayVS announced today that it has launched the PlayVS College League (PCL), a new competitive ecosystem that offers players a pathway to professional esports starting as early as middle school. Esports programs from many different schools have the chance to join the PCL, as it has no roster caps, per-seat fees or team limits, removing many barriers for smaller programs to participate in the broader esports landscape.

According to PlayVS, students can compete in 17 titles. The company offers schools multiple tools to track performance and stats while boosting participation, with fall and spring seasons ending in LAN events with travel stipends for participating teams. This program is the culmination of PlayVS’s efforts to unite scholastic esports with its acquisitions of Generation Esports and Playfly College Esports.

iFIT members can now access Ergatta’s game-based workouts across treadmills, bikes and rowers, expanding options for non-runners and fans of interactive cardio

Connected fitness brand iFIT has expanded its partnership with cardio gaming leader Ergatta, bringing new games and Tour de France content to more fitness modalities.

The move builds on the companies’ initial partnership announced in March, which introduced Ergatta’s immersive virtual racing experience to iFIT’s NordicTrack and ProForm treadmills. The launch marked a shift beyond traditional instructor-led workouts, giving members a gamified option to race against others, set personal pacers or compete with iFIT trainers.

Now, Ergatta’s virtual racing experience, Races, is expanding to bikes and rowers and iFIT-enabled rowers will feature Meteor, Ergatta’s personalized single-player game designed for interval-based training. The update also enhances the Races experience on treadmills, adding support for nine languages, including Spanish, Mandarin and German, along with new visual landscapes and workouts tailored to walkers and hikers.

For its part, iFIT continues to broaden its reach to fitness consumers, including a beta version of its iFIT AI Coach. The company recently partnered with Samsung Health to make its digital fitness content available on Samsung’s mobile devices and app. Starting this fall, select iFIT workouts filmed in destinations around the world will be accessible to Samsung Health users for a monthly or annual fee. There are also plans to integrate Samsung Galaxy devices with iFIT-enabled NordicTrack and ProForm equipment.

iFIT also struck a content deal with Xponential Fitness, adding studio-quality classes from Club Pilates and YogaSix to its platform. The move comes as iFIT sharpens its focus on Pilates in particular, following its acquisition of Reform RX, a premium reformer brand known for both commercial and at-home use.
