Ten University of Wisconsin track and field athletes fared well enough last week at the NCAA West First Round in College Station, Texas, to qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
Seven men and three women — including one woman who qualified for two events — will head to Eugene, Oregon, for the championship events. It’s a familiar spot for the Badgers, who were there for the Big Ten Conference meet earlier this season.
Here are the athletes that will continue their seasons beginning June 11.
Women
Taylor Kesner
What to know: Taylor Kesner is the nation’s only women’s athlete to qualify for a spot in Eugene for both the javelin and discus.

Kesner started the meet with an 11th-place finish in the javelin, marking 171 feet, 10 inches, to place second in school history in the event.
It was particularly impressive, given that Kesner said she doesn’t train javelin throws as much as other events, per a Wisconsin news release.
She finished her weekend with a 189-8 heave in the discus, marking another personal best and another second-place all-time distance for the program.
Chloe Lindeman
What to know: Chloe Lindeman added to her solid résumé in the hammer throw. A three-time All-American in the indoor event, Lindeman is going to the outdoor championships for the first time.
She threw 212-0 to place sixth in College Station, easily clearing the top-12 mark needed to advance.
Emma Kelley
What to know: Emma Kelley, a multi-time national champion in Division III, is set to compete in the Division I championships in the 800 meters for the first time.
Kelley ran the event in 2:1.87, good for her personal best and the third-fastest time in program history.
Men
Joseph White
What to know: Another former Division III champion who is now competing for the Badgers, Joseph White is also set to make his outdoor Division I championship debut in the shot put.
White placed second in College Station with a 65-2 ¼ mark. After a few throws were less than what he’d hoped for, his best toss came on his last attempt.
Jason Swarens
What to know: Jason Swarens was right behind teammate White in the shot put, placing third with a distance of 64-11 ½.
The reigning Big Ten champion will look for another big outdoor title meet after placing second in the country in 2024.
Cole Hooper
What to know: Cole Hooper had to wait a while before finally securing his qualification.
He took third in his flight of the hammer throw, going 216-7. He had to wait for the fourth group to finish, but he ultimately took eighth and will throw in Eugene for the first time.
Adam Spencer
What to know: Adam Spencer, a 2024 Olympian for Australia, needed 3:46.78 to place 13th overall in the 1,500 and second in his heat.
Spencer was the runner-up in the event at the national championships in 2024.
Jalen Williams
What to know: Jalen Williams was the fastest sprinter for the Badgers, taking third in his heat and eighth in total in the 400 meters.
The Big Ten runner-up crossed the line in 45.78.
Patrick Hilby
What to know: Patrick Hilby is continuing his fantastic freshman outdoor season.
Hilby won his heat and placed 10th overall with a time of 1:47.30 in the 800.
Andrew Casey
What to know: Andrew Casey actually recorded the same official time as teammate Hilby, marking 1:47.30.
His actual time, though the NCAA marks to just the hundredth of a second, was 1:47.295, as opposed to 1:47.294 from Hilby. It was good enough for 11th overall and a qualification.
