New York Sports Club (NYSC) is expanding its partnership with Hyrox, the global fitness race brand, amid rising interest in functional and competitive in-person events.
After a strong debut at NYSC’s Astoria location, the Northeast fitness chain will roll out Hyrox Training Club classes and in-gym challenges like the Hyrox-inspired PFT (Physical Fitness Test) to additional clubs across the New York area this summer.

“The decision to become a Hyrox Training Club has been a huge hit in Astoria, drawing both seasoned competitors and everyday fitness enthusiasts seeking a new challenge,” NYSC chief marketing and creative officer Kari Saitowitz said. “We’re thrilled to expand our Hyrox affiliation and help more people discover how transformative Hyrox-style training can be—not just for physical performance, but for mental toughness and social wellbeing.”

A United States appeals court has struck down the Federal Trade Commission (FTC)’s “click-to-cancel” rule, a decision America’s top fitness industry organization hailed as “a major victory.”
The controversial rule, officially known as the “negative option rule,” was set to go into effect on July 14th. It would have required that many businesses, including gyms, make it as easy for consumers to cancel subscriptions and memberships as it was to sign up for them in the first place.
While click-to-cancel has been praised by consumer-rights groups, fitness industry stakeholders expressed concerns that the rule would have exposed gyms, health clubs and fitness studios to unnecessary and costly operational burdens.
On Tuesday, the United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit issued an opinion vacating the rule, saying it suffered from “procedural deficiencies.”
The Health & Fitness Association (HFA) called the decision “ a major victory for the fitness industry and a direct result of HFA’s sustained advocacy.”
“HFA has been deeply involved in this issue for more than two years, starting with formal comments on the original proposal and continuing through every phase of the process,” the organization wrote Tuesday in a note to members. We filed an amicus brief in the case to highlight the rule’s burdens on health and fitness facility operations, while also leading a Capitol Hill strategy to prepare a Congressional Review Act resolution in partnership with the US Chamber and industry allies.”

While the Eighth Circuit Court’s decision will come as a sigh of relief to fitness businesses across the country, some states are taking matters into their own hands in an effort to make gym memberships easier to cancel.
In May, New York Attorney General Letitia James announced a $600,000 settlement with Equinox Group, which operates Equinox, Equinox+ and SoulCycle, over alleged unfair membership cancellation practices. According to the attorney general’s office, the luxury fitness and lifestyle company didn’t offer accessible online cancellation options, among other violations.
“New Yorkers should be able to cancel a membership they no longer use or want without breaking a sweat,” Attorney General James said in a statement following the settlement.

According to a new nationwide survey by Planet Fitness, 70% of Americans who set a fitness-related resolution are still on track with their goals. Whether they’ve been going strong since January 1st or regrouping after a few hiccups, the resolution drop-off is much lower than most people expect. The new online survey, conducted by Wired Research, interviewed 1,000 nationally representative Americans ages 18 and over.
Whether they’re going strong, regrouping after a few hiccups, or adjusting their approach while staying active, the resolution drop-off is much lower than some may expect. In fact, only 2% of people say they’ve given up completely. The study also discovered that Gen Z and Millennials are extremely resolution-committed, with over 80% saying they keep the momentum going. The study also asked Americans about their willingness to exercise in summer heat, of which 76% responded they would rather put themselves through an uncomfortable situation (think time share presentation or awkward family dinner) than to exercise outside in 100+ degree weather.
The survey data also revealed some other interesting findings about fitness. When asked about different types of training, 39% of Gen Z and Millennials indicated that strength training was their preferred workout, while 41% indicated they’d rather skip cardiovascular training. In a twist on the “Date, Fling, Pass” game, 38% of Americans also showed that strength training could be a fling, suggesting that they are into it now but may not be forever. Many respondents indicated they would rather flexibility and recovery workouts, such as stretching and yoga, than cardio on their next date.
