Max Verstappen added another gem to his already extensive collection. The four-time world champion took a brilliant win, his fourth in a row in Imola, something no other driver has managed at this track. The Dutchman’s 65th win was the ideal way for his Red Bull Racing team to celebrate its 400th Grand Prix, to which Max also added the team’s 100th fastest race lap.

Joining him on the podium were the McLaren duo of Lando Norris, second and pole sitter Oscar Piastri in third spot.
THE DAY ON TRACK

As expected, the Hard and Medium tyres were the only two compounds used in the race. For the start, five drivers – Hamilton (Ferrari), Tsunoda (Red Bull), Antonelli (Mercedes), Bearman (Haas) and Hulkenberg (Sauber) – chose the C4 for the opening stint, with all the others going with the C5.

The Hard completed 812 laps (67.39%) and the Medium did 393 (32.61%). The longest stint on both compounds was 34 laps with Russell, Alonso, Gasly, Leclerc, Lawson and Sainz doing so on the C4, while Tsunoda and Hulkenberg went the same distance on the C5.

Of the drivers who finished, two made just one stop – Tsunoda and Hulkenberg, while Bortoleto pitted three times. The others all stopped twice, on at least one occasion making the most of a Safety Car period.
MARIO ISOLA – PIRELLI DIRECTOR OF MOTORSPORT

“An exciting incident-packed race brought a very busy weekend to a close, which for us featured the outright debut of the new C6 compound. Now, it will be important to analyse all the data from these three days thoroughly, as it should provide useful insights for coming races, especially in terms of tyre compound allocation for races in the second half of the season.

“What we can say right now is that the decision to go with a trio of compounds one step softer than last year proved to be the right one. If we look at the first part of the race, as the second was affected by neutralisations, we saw that in a situation where all the drivers were managing their pace in the opening stint, it only required one of them to make an unexpected move – in this case Leclerc pitting early on lap 10 – to trigger changes in strategy. Some chose to extend the first stint as much as possible, obviously going for a one-stop race, while others realised that the Ferrari driver’s undercut worked very well and were forced to react. In fact, on fresh tyres and with a clear track ahead of him, Leclerc made up a lot of places.

“Of course, what happened in the second part of the race makes it hard to know for certain to what extent such an early pit stop would have paid off, or if the move would have forced those who did so into switching to a two-stop strategy. It means that, in general, the decision to go with softer tyres still opened the door to more choices, both in terms of the number of stops and the length of the stints.”

FORMULA 2

Alexander Dunne won the Feature Race. Rodin Motorsport’s Irish drivers thus secured his second success of the season thanks to the way the pit stops played out, along with some overtaking moves in the crucial stages. Behind him across the line came the two Hitech TGR drivers, Englishman Luke Browning second ahead of Sweden’s Dino Beganovic. The win means Dunne also now leads the championship with 64 points, six more than Browning.

As regards the tyres, the majority of drivers (13) chose to start on the Supersoft to pit at the earliest opportunity to change to Softs. Whereas those who decided to start on the harder compound ran the risk of having a Safety Car period after half-distance. This duly happened which meant some drivers had to make an additional stop. As is often the case, the variety of strategies led to plenty of duels and overtaking on track.

FORMULA 3

Mexico’s Santiago Ramos won the Feature Race. He was the protagonist of a long fight, swapping places several times with Brazil’s Rafael Camara (Trident). The key move came with three laps to go when Ramos made the decisive pass. The Brazilian then lost second place to his team-mate, Denmark’s Noah Stromstedt. However, Camara still leads the championship on 73 points, 21 more than Stromstedt.

As for the tyres, managing degradation was the key to the final result. Those who did a good job of it in the early stages and were able to run clear of traffic, had the upper hand in the end.

Scott Bowdish is a lifelong entrepreneur. He got his start selling pagers out of the trunk of his car at flea markets, eventually owning a cellular store, and then another and another until he had 30 stores across the Chicagoland area.

But in 2014, he found his calling.

Bowdish loved steak. Living in downtown Chicago, the steakhouse was his go-to restaurant, and there were plenty to choose from. But after moving to Saugatuck, Michigan, he and his wife realized something was missing.

Bowdish got to work, looking for a location to open his first steakhouse, and Bowdie’s Chophouse was born.

“The location in Saugatuck was a small, converted house with 62 seats,” said Zionsville General Manager Bradley Phelps. “The second location in Lansing was a similar spot with 42 seats. It was always people who had dined here before, wanting it close to them, that caused Scott to open up another spot, and now, there are six across the country.”

He started close to home with a location in Saugatuck, and then Grand Rapids and Lansing. Then began branching out to Hilton Head, South Carolina, and Savannah, Georgia.

A chance encounter with a legendary race car driver solidified Bowdish’s next targeted location: Zionsville, Indiana.

One of those people who wanted Bowdie’s Chophouse close to him happened to be Bobby Rahal. He had frequented the Saugatuck location for years, and when the Graham Rahal Performance campus was under construction at Creekside Corporate Park in Zionsville, they knew just who to call for a unique and classy dining experience.

Bowdie’s Chophouse in Zionsville opened just weeks ago, and true to Bowdish’s style, the special location includes a special twist.

Graham Rahal Performance often hosts Cars & Coffee events. They have the WheelHouse Social Club, an exotic car and race car storage facility for Founders and Collectors members and often host special community events.

The campus includes the 105,000-square-foot Rahal Ducati Indianapolis showroom, Rahal Paint Protection and Rahal Precision Tint operations. There is office space for the Graham and Courtney Rahal Foundation, a coffee shop, Rivet Coffee and more.

The upscale restaurant has also always been in the plans.

It’s the perfect spot for drivers to stop in or entertain visitors, but it’s also a great spot for the lunchtime crowd from Zionsville businesses.

“Bowdie’s Chophouse faces the courtyard of Ducati and the Rahal racing building. They often have car shows and motorcycle shows out there,” Phelps said. “We can seat 154 inside and 30 outside. The private dining space overlooks the WheelHouse, and part of the dining room also faces the museum space, with different cars rotated every so often.”

They’re aiming for a dining experience that has a high-end feel but is also family-friendly.

Designed by Bowdish-selected Kristine Kay Interiors, imagine the checkered flag-inspired black-and-white tile, sleek accents, rich woods, leather seating and vintage lighting.

“We want to be the place for the special occasions but also the day-in and day-out dining spot,” Phelps said. “We’ve already had a lot of people that live here in Zionsville stop by and ask because they’ve been to the other locations, and they’re excited we’re in Indiana.”

The menu, of course, centers around Bowdie’s favorite: the USDA prime.

“The smallest steak we have is the 10-ounce tomahawk. The tomahawk and the porterhouse are shareable and make a great appetizer, too. The chef has fresh catch salmon and chicken liberties, and he’ll rotate those dishes throughout the season. We also have a soup of the day, appetizers and dessert, but it’s really a core, tight menu across all locations,” Phelps said.

Start the meal off with appetizers like shrimp cocktail, seared scallops or prime tartare. Choose between salads and seasonal soup selections, and then enjoy a variety of steaks, including the 18-ounce Kansas City and the 10-ounce filet mignon. Listed on the shareable menu, guests can try the au gratin potatoes, lobster mac, truffle fries or Brussels & belly, to name a few.

They also have an assorted menu of wine and spirits with bourbon, vodka, tequila and gin.

The staff at Bowdie’s and Graham Rahal Performance hope visitors enjoy the family-friendly atmosphere, complete with great food and unique entertainment.

Whether you are a racing enthusiast, a foodie or simply someone who appreciates luxurious steakhouse dining, Bowdie’s Chophouse has you covered.

RFK Racing has found its rhythm this season, thanks in part to the recent addition of Ryan Preece. While the team had previously shown flashes of form, the collective performances of Preece, Brad Keselowski, and Chris Buescher have now hit a higher gear. At Pocono, all three RFK drivers cracked the top ten, accentuating the outfit’s growing consistency. Perhaps unsurprisingly, their off-track content is also striking a chord with fans.

Preece recently posted a lighthearted clip on his X handle, titled “Show & tell with @Chris_Buescher,” in which he played the animated host to Buescher’s deadpan delivery about his breakfast picks. The video opens with Preece leaning into the camera and declaring, “All right, listen up! My teammate wants to show you his favorite breakfast items. So, you better be nice and leave a good comment. Show ’em, Chris!”

Buescher then steps into the frame, calm and collected, while Preece continues to cheer him on from behind. “Hey, y’all. This is my Cinnamon toast crunch, it’s mega-sized,” he says. Preece echoes excitedly in the background, “Mega-Sized!” Unfazed, Buescher goes on, “Got 12 vitamins and minerals. Pretty good, I ate a lot of that.”

He follows up with, “And then my Cinnamon toast crunch Cinna dust. Put it on bananas, coffee, you know all kinds of stuff like that. And then my new favorite, cinnamon toast crunch treats. There were eight bars this morning. There’s only one now. Obviously, I like these,” while Preece hypes up every line with gusto in the background.

The video quickly won over fans, many of whom praised the drivers’ chemistry and timing. One viewer wrote, “Love the energy! Y’all are like twins.” Another added, “Chris looks like he’ll finish that mega size in two days. Can’t blame him, I’d do it in one.”

A third quipped, “Calm down, Chris. Put down the box, and move away… slowly… (this is comedy gold!).” Finally, a fan summarized the tone perfectly, writing, “Lmfao this is so good. Ryan in back all excited a while Chris is so series about his Cinnamon Toast Crunch.”

The video also appears to serve a commercial purpose. Buescher will pilot the No. 17 Ford at Atlanta Motor Speedway with sponsorship from Cinnamon Toast Crunch under its “Cinnadust” branding. The RFK Racing entry will carry a special Cinnadust-themed livery, marking a promotional partnership between the brand and the team for the event.

What’s Happening?

NASCAR has fined Hendrick Motorsports’ No. 17 team $40,000 and penalized HMS 40 owner points and 10 NASCAR Playoff owner points following Chase Elliott’s fourth-place finish at Pocono Raceway.

NASCAR says that this is a violation of Sections 14.3.3.2.1.1 K&L: Main Frame Rail Conical Receivers. Per the NASCAR Xfinity Series Rule Book:

K. Main frame rail conical receivers will not be permitted to be moved without having the chassis re-certified prior to the Event at which that chassis will compete.

L. Modifications to main frame rail conical receivers that were made to circumvent NASCAR inspection processes, measurement equipment, and/or gauges will not be permitted.

HMS has yet to comment on the matter. In addition to the financial and points implications for the No. 17, the car’s primary Crew Chief, Adam Wall, will serve a three-race suspension from NASCAR Xfinity Series races.

Prior to this penalty, the car sat 16th in owner points, with 365; after assessment, the team will drop to 20th with 325 points. This penalty will have little effect on the HMS car’s plans, as it does not compete full-time, having entered ten of the season’s 16 races so far.

Elliott will remain unaffected by this penalty, as he is one of a handful of part-time drivers of HMS’s No. 17. This year, all four of Hendrick’s Cup Series drivers, alongside their prospect, Corey Day, have driven the No. 17 car. The car has not entered EchoPark Speedway in Atlanta this weekend.

So far this season, the No. 17 has two wins, one with Kyle Larson and another with William Byron. Per a release from Hendrick, the car is not scheduled to compete until the Jul. 12 race at Sonoma Raceway with Day behind the wheel. This is a developing story.

It’s the second NASCAR race weekend this year for the 1.54-mile speedway south of Atlanta. In the previous visit to the drafting track four months ago, there were two last-lap passes for the win.

NASCAR Teams Must Share Financial Data With NASCAR, Judge Rules

NASCAR has argued it can’t effectively defend itself against accusations by 23XI Racing and Front Row Motorsports that the association doesn’t fairly share industry revenues with teams unless it knows how much revenue teams actually generate.

On Wednesday, a federal district agreed.

U.S. District Judge Kenneth D. Bell ordered Joe Gibbs Racing, Hendrick Motorsports, Spire Motorsports IV, Trackhouse Racing, Penske Motorsports, Richard Childress Racing Enterprises, Wood Brothers Racing, RFK Racing, Legacy Motor Club, Hyak Motorsports, Rick Ware Racing and Haas Factory Team to turn over documents that will provide financial insights to NASCAR. These teams aren’t suing NASCAR and aren’t parties to the antitrust litigation, but they do possess evidence that is relevant to the legal claims and defenses.

Bell ruled that as soon as reasonably practicable, these teams must provide annual top-line financial data to an account they and NASCAR select. This data will include total revenue, total costs and net profits/losses, and should be offered on an anonymized, average per-car basis for each year since 2014. Bell also emphasized that teams must reveal sponsorship income—which NASCAR insists is a “major component of the industry revenue” at issue and which is separate from revenue teams receive from NASCAR in charters—in calculating total revenue.

Bell has ordered NASCAR and the teams to jointly select an independent accounting firm by this Friday at noon local time. If they can’t agree, Bell says each must suggest one name to him by Friday at noon.

The accountant will be tasked with confidentially sharing information with NASCAR but is barred from providing an individual team’s information to other teams. Along those lines, Bell specified the accountant must use a spreadsheet that includes a “Highly Confidential Attorneys Eyes Only” designation and lists the per-car annual averages for each team “without identifying the team associated with each set of numbers.”

The teams have refused to voluntarily turn over their financial data. They have mainly cited privacy concerns, with sponsorship information potentially comprising trade secrets and other categories of documents that businesses normally prefer to keep confidential. Bell reasoned that his order, which limits the necessary disclosures and includes anonymized features, protects “the legitimate interests of the non-party teams.”

NASCAR will be on the hook for the accountant’s costs, but the teams, Bell wrote, “must bear their own expenses, including attorneys’ fees.”

Penske Motorsports is owned by Roger Penske and is not related to Penske Media, the parent company of Sportico.
