Virat Kohli ends Rs 110 cr Puma deal, set to join former Puma MD's Agilitas as investor

New Delhi: Indian cricket icon Virat Kohli has made headlines off the field, parting ways with German sportswear giant Puma after an eight-year, Rs 110 crore endorsement deal to join homegrown athleisure brand Agilitas as an investor and brand ambassador.

The news reports signal Kohli’s ambition to transform his lifestyle brand, One8, into a global sportswear powerhouse, with an official announcement expected during the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season.

Kohli’s partnership with Puma, which began in 2017, was a landmark in Indian sports endorsements, making him the first Indian athlete to secure a deal exceeding Rs 100 crore. The collaboration produced iconic campaigns and exclusive One8 product lines, cementing Puma’s dominance in India’s sportswear market.

News reports state that Kohli declined a Rs 300 crore offer to extend the partnership, opting instead to invest in Agilitas, a startup founded in 2023 by Abhishek Ganguly, former Managing Director of Puma India and Southeast Asia.

Agilitas, which raised Rs 100 crore from Nexus Venture Partners in December 2023 and acquired licensing rights for Italian brand Lotto in India, Australia, and South Africa, is positioning itself as India’s answer to global sportswear giants.

Kohli is expected to acquire a significant equity stake in the company and play a pivotal role in scaling One8, which he launched in 2017 as a premium athleisure brand. Plans include a brand relaunch with a new logo, expanded footwear and apparel collections, and exclusive stores in major cities like London, Dubai, and New York.

In a statement, Puma wrote, “We wish Virat the best for his future endeavours. It was a wonderful association spanning years of outstanding campaigns and path-breaking collaborations. Puma will continue to invest in the next generation of athletes and India’s sporting ecosystem.”

Recently, Kohli cleared promotional posts from his Instagram grid.

Top 10 College Football Jobs in the NIL Era

On3 hosts Andy Staples and Ari Wasserman recently broke down their lists for which schools have the best jobs in this NIL era.

Here is what Wasserman had to say regarding where Texas is:

“No. 1 is Texas to me…I think Texas is a place that has been a bully…It’s a historical program…I would die to go to Texas.”

Wasserman also noted how he thinks the idea of being able to be the person who delivers on bringing a national title back to Austin could be too tough to pass up.

That could be what a lot of recruits and coaches are thinking about.

Following Texas on Wasserman’s list are the national champion Ohio State Buckeyes, Oregon Ducks, Texas A&M Aggies, LSU Tigers, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Alabama Crimson Tide, and Michigan Wolverines.

What Attracts Coaches and Recruits to These Schools?

These schools are attractive to head coaches and players for a number of reasons.

First of all, it is the atmosphere and the chance to win a national title that could motivate these players and coaches. Additionally, the financial side is now way more significant because of the rise of NIL.

However much money a school wants to offer either a coach or a player certainly matters. Then, there are other attractions such as the city and community around the program.

A place like Austin, Texas, is a big piece of the puzzle for coaches and players because there is so much to do. Other schools, such as Notre Dame, have a rich history and pageantry that make it hard to pass on.

All in all, these schools have their own unique qualities that make people want to come there, then it is just a matter of bringing a title back to the school.

The Alabama Crimson Tide has been out to prove that it is more than just a football school of late, and the university’s official Name, Image, and Likeness collective, Yeah Alabama, has announced that the basketball program is working toward scheduling a game on the biggest of stages.

The game is expected to take place on November 8, and see the Tide take on the St. John’s Red Storm at Madison Square Garden. It is expected to be the most anticipated non-conference matchup of the 2025-26 season.

Alabama is coming off a 28-9 campaign and their second trip to the Elite Eight in as many years, and the Red Storm is coming off a 30-4 record in their second season under head coach Rick Pitino.

The Crimson Tide is more of a recent college basketball power, while St. John’s’s heyday came nearly 50 years ago, but could be returning soon.

The two teams last met in 1982 and have played to a 2-2 record against each other. The matchup in November will see two of the game’s elite coaches facing off, Nate Oats and Pitino, and could be an early preview of a potential tournament matchup. While both teams were in the 2024-25 NCAA Tournament, they could not have faced each other before the National Championship game.

Alabama will lose several of their key players to the NBA draft this summer, and suffered many blows in the transfer portal. Instead of resting on his laurals, Oats also attacked the transfer portal, bringing in standouts such as Jalil Bethea, Noah Williamson, and Taylor Bol Bowen, while also expecting three incoming four-star freshman. The Tide is expected to be in the National Championship chase.

For the Red Storm, they are expected to be a frontrunner in the coming season. Pitino and his staff have been no strangers to working the portal and landed coveted talent the likes of Ian Jackson and Bryce Hopkins, to go along with returning star center Zuby Ejiofor.

If the deal comes together as planned, and all of the stars are able to take the court, it is destined to be an entertaining affair for the masses at The Garden.

After firing now-former head coach Kevin Kruger, the UNLV Runnin’ Rebels men’s basketball team made a big splash this offseason when they hired former Georgia Tech head coach turned television analyst Josh Pastner for their head coaching job. So far, this offseason has been viewed as extremely successful for his first year with the program, particularly with what he’s done through the transfer portal.

Recently, Pastner sat down with the Las Vegas Review-Journal and spoke about the current landscape of college basketball and the impact the transfer portal has had on the game.

“It’s a totally different world,” he said. “Doing television, I can’t tell you how many times talking to different coaches (I’d hear) how much they did not like the landscape. I actually enjoy this.”

He spoke about how in today’s game, everything is so much faster-paced and short-term than it was even a few years ago when he was coaching:

“At the end, they say they’re going somewhere else, and it’s devastating. Or if you win and get the guy, you’re so excited. The difference right now is everything is streamlined. Instead of two to three years, it’s two to three weeks. And it’s so much quicker. … So I love this, because I’m all about efficiency. Less is more.”

He spoke about the experience of missing out on a player you expected to have on your roster and what you have to do to bounce back using a “high-level” player who overslept for a meeting as an example.

“So we went to somebody else. It wasn’t going to be the right fit. You’ve got to get ready to move on to the next deal… If you have a tough loss, or you’re in a tough stretch, how do you bounce back (from) that quickly? You’ve got to move on to the next thing and not dwell on the past.”

“In the NBA, or pro sports, if a team is offering somebody something, the other team has a chance to match it and they know what they’re offering… (In college sports) you don’t know if you’re out bidding against yourself. You’re doing a best-guess estimate because you don’t know what the other schools are doing… I wish there was more transparency from everybody in college basketball.”

SPARTANBURG, S.C. — Chattanooga put together a six-run third inning with just two hits to grab an 8-3 win over No. 3 Samford Friday morning to advance to the Southern Conference Championship game on Saturday.

Samford took an early lead with a run in the top of the first. The Mocs responded with a two-run blast from Olivia Lipari to go up 2-0. Samford retook the lead in the top of the second with two runs, but it was all Chattanooga in the third.

Camryn Cernuto led off the inning with a single. Lipari, trying to lay down a sac bunt, reached on a throwing error and both runners were safe with Cernuto ending up on third. Acelynn Sellers was hit by a pitch to load the bases and the Mocs scored the tying run when Baileigh Pitts was hit by a pitch in the next at bat.

Samford switched pitchers. The Bulldogs got the first out of the inning on a force out at home. Raven Jones grounded out to the shortstop on the next at bat, but drove in the go ahead run.

Mia Leone, pinch hitting for Lexi Cooley, drew a walk to once again load the bases. Zoe Wright reached on an error at first base, plating Purdy and Pitts to put the Mocs up 6-3.

The final blow came on a single to left by Kailey Snell. The ball was booted away and two more runs scored to make it an 8-3 Chattanooga advantage.

Samford put two on in the top of the fourth, but the duo was stranded. The Bulldogs went in order in the fifth, stranded the lead off in the sixth and went 1-2-3 in the seventh.

Chattanooga had just five hits on the day led by Cernuto who was 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Lipari drove in two on one hit with a home run. She was hit to reach base once and had a sac fly. Snell, Pitts and Jones each had an RBI in the win.

Peja Goold went five innings, struck out three, gave up three hits and did not allow a run. She improved to 25-6 on the year and is tied with Beth Alexander (’02) for fourth on the Mocs single-season list.

Chattanooga will take on the winner of Game 11 to be played today at 4:00 p.m. The winner of Game 10 (Mercer/UNCG) will take on Samford in Game 11. The Championship Game is set for 1:00 p.m. Saturday.
