Volleyball Announces Addition of Lang as Graduate Assistant Coach

HOUSTON — Rice volleyball head coach Genny Volpe has announced the addition of Kate Lang as a graduate assistant coach to the coaching staff.

“We are thrilled to add Kate to our staff,” Coach Volpe said. “She is very eager to learn and assist our the program in any way she can. She is a very hard worker and has an incredible volleyball background at an elite level. I couldn’t be more excited, and know she will add so much value to our program.”

Lang joins Rice as a Graduate Assistant coach for volleyball following a decorated playing career at the University of Hawai’i. A two-time Big West Setter of the Year and the first-ever recipient of the award, Lang led the Rainbow Wahine to four consecutive Big West Conference championships and finished third all-time in program history with 4,544 career assists.

“I’m extremely appreciative of the opportunity to be apart of the Rice Volleyball family as a graduate assistant,” said Lang. “To serve a program that values excellence on and off the court at such a prestigious institution is a blessing. All glory to God! I can’t wait to get started and give back to the game I love so much. Go Owls!”

In 2024, she was selected to the USA Volleyball Collegiate National Team and earned AVCA All-Region Honorable Mention. A four-time All-Big West selection and CSC Academic All-District honoree, Lang also brings a strong club volleyball background, having won two national championships with Texas Advantage Volleyball (TAV).

She holds a B.A. in Political Science and Women, Gender & Sexuality Studies and is currently pursuing her Master’s in Global Affairs at Rice University.

Four Saint Francis Women’s Volleyball Players Named CSC Academic All-District

Saint Francis women’s volleyball players Alexa Chapla, Kori McClure, Korrin Burns, and Alexandra Sappia were named to the 2025 College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team.

College Sports Communicators (formerly CoSIDA) recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. In order to be eligible to earn a CSC Academic All-District selection, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore academically and athletically, own a grade point average above 3.50 and must compete in 90 percent of contests or start in at least 66 percent of contests. 

Chapla, a Physical Therapy major, maintained a GPA of 3.889. The senior from Pittsburgh, Pa., played in 28 matches of the 2025 season and registered 26 assists, 41 aces, and 156 digs. Over her four years, she obtained 72 matches played, 53 aces, and 226 digs.

McClure, a Exercise Physiology major, maintained a GPA of 3.616. The senior has now been named a CSC Academic All-District selection for the second year, first being in 2023. The Westerville, Ohio native started all 29 matches this season registering 14 assists, 36 aces, 58 digs, 77 blocks, and 236 kills. She was named NEC Player of the Week, named to the All-NEC second team, and All-Tournament team in 2025. Throughout her four years as a Red Flash, McClure recorded 83 matches played, 66 aces, 120 assists, 151 blocks, 304 digs, and 664 kills.

Burns, a Physical Therapy major from Clarion, Pa., maintained a 3.815 GPA. The junior has now been named a CSC Academic All-District selection for the third consecutive year. She recorded 29 starts, 23 assists, 28 aces, 40 blocks, 254 assists, and 588 kills. Burns was named to the NEC All-Tournament team, NEC Player of the Year, All-NEC first team, ECAC Offensive Player of the Year and first team, and All-Region honorable mention. Throughout her career she has collected 86 starts, 65 assists, 97 aces, 99 blocks, 695 digs, and 1,427 kills.

Sappia, a Physical Therapy major, held a 3.935 GPA. This is the second time she has been named a CSC Academic All-District selection for the second consecutive year. The West Palm Beach, Fla. native started all 29 games recording 31 kills, 36 blocks, 63 aces, 210 digs, and 1,238 assists. In only three years the junior gained 59 blocks, 68 kills, 154 aces, 551 digs, and 2,688 assists. Sappia was named to the All-NEC first team and ECAC first team.

Sappia, McClure, and Burns join Maggie Hogan (2023-2025) on the list of Saint Francis women’s volleyball CSC Academic All-District members who have earned this accolade two times. Burns and Hogan are the only women’s volleyball players to claim this three times.

Collins tabbed America East Male Track Athlete of the Week

ORONO, Maine — The America East Conference named Maine’s Charlie Collins as the America East Conference Male Track Athlete of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday.

Collins had a strong performance at Maine’s Black Bear Invitational on Friday December 12. Collins finished first in the 3,000m with a time of 8:32.35 and secured second place with a mile time of 4:09.88.

This is Collins’ first award of the Indoor Track campaign.

Collins and the Black Bears return to action on January 17th as they take on the Bates College Invitational.

Wisconsin volleyball vs Kentucky Final Four TV channel, time, schedule

Wisconsin volleyball upset No. 1-seed Texas to advance to the NCAA Tournament Final Four on Sunday evening.

The Badgers won the Regional Final match 3-1 (25-22, 25-21, 20-25, 25-19), avenging an early-season sweep at the hands of the Longhorns. Star Mimi Colyer again led Wisconsin with 23 of its 67 total kills. The Badgers as a whole hit 29.4%, compared to Texas’ 25%.

Wisconsin booked a Final Four trip to Kansas City, Missouri, with the win. The team will face No. 1-seed Kentucky in the semifinals, with the winner set meet the winner of No. 1 Pittsburgh and No. 3 Texas A&M in the championship game on Sunday.

With just a few days remaining until the Badgers play in their seventh Final Four, here is where and when to watch the action.

Shanahan tabbed with America East Female Track Athlete of the Week

ORONO, Maine — The America East Conference named Maine’s Bayleigh Shanahan as the America East Female Track Athlete of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday.

Shanahan set two new personal records at the Black Bear Invitational on Friday December 12. Finishing in first place in the 60m dash with a time of 7.97 and finished four in the 300m with a time of 43.42, capping off a successful home meet performance.

This is Shanahan’s first weekly award of the Indoor Track campaign.

Shanahan and the Black Bears return to action on January 17th as they open their spring semester at the Bates College Invitational.

VB Announces Signing of Carson Tyler

MILWAUKEE, Wis. – Marquette volleyball head coach Tom Mendoza has announced the addition of Ball State transfer Carson Tyler to the Golden Eagles. 

“We are excited to add a player of Carson’s ability and character. As good of a volleyball player Carson is, she’s an even better person and the type of teammate who will fit in really well with our group and what we are building at Marquette” Mendoza said of Tyler.

A native of Pavillion, New York, Tyler arrives in Milwaukee after two seasons at Ball State from 2024-25, and will join the Golden Eagles for the Spring 2026 semester. She will have two years of eligibility remaining. 

This past season, Tyler earned MAC Player of the Year, First Team All-MAC, and AVCA First Team All-Midwest Region honors after posting 506 kills (4.18 kills/set) while hitting .324 on the season, 581 total points (4.80 points/set) and 321 digs (2.32 digs/set). Her attacking numbers each ranked first in the MAC this past season, and while her 506 kills ranked 17th in NCAA DI.  

In her freshman campaign with the Cardinals in 2024, Tyler provided one of the most prolific freshman seasons in school history, earning AVCA Midwest Region Freshman of the Year and AVCA Midwest All-Region Honorable Mention honors. Her play also rewarded her MAC Freshman of the Year, All-Freshman Team, and First Team All-MAC honors. That season, she ranked second in the league with 4.22 kills/set and 374 total kills.
