Nick Sanchez held off Carson Kvapil to win the lengthy Focused Health 250 on June 27 into the early morning hours of June 28 at EchoPark Speedway for his first career NASCAR Xfinity Series win.

The driver of the No. 48 Big Machine Racing Chevrolet had to regain the lead after losing it on the final restart with less than 10 laps to go, weaving around Jesse Love for the top spot.

Sanchez, in 14th in points coming into Atlanta, is now locked into the Xfinity Series playoffs and narrows the playoff bubble. Earlier in the race, Sanchez caused a caution in Stage 2 when he spun through the grass on the frontstretch.

The race was delayed by more than an hour with a lightning hold during Stage 1 after the start of the race was also delayed by nearby weather. A multi-car crash soon after the race restart involved Sheldon Creed, Justin Allgaier and others. Creed’s DNF continues a recent poor stretch and puts the driver of the No. 00 Haas Factory Team Ford on the cusp of missing the playoffs.

Five-time Atlanta winner Austin Hill lost several laps to repair a fuel pickup issue and finished 26th, five laps down.

Here are the full results for Friday’s race:

Denny Hamlin enters as the top seed of the NASCAR In-Season Challenge when he takes part in the 2025 Quaker State 400 at Echo Park Speedway outside Atlanta on Saturday. Hamlin will need to finish ahead of Ty Dillon, the 32nd seed, to advance. The bracket-style tournament will continue for five weeks, culminating at the Brickyard 400 on July 27 in Indianapolis. Hamlin will also eye his fourth win of the year and first since winning the FireKeepers Casino 400 at Michigan International Speedway earlier this month.

Ryan Blaney is the +800 favorite, with Joey Logano at +850, Austin Cindric at +900, William Byron at +1000, and Kyle Busch and Chase Elliott at +1400 in the latest 2025 Quaker State 400 odds from DraftKings Sportsbook. Saturday’s race is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. ET. Before making any 2025 Quaker State 400 at Echo Park Speedway picks or NASCAR predictions, you need to see what NASCAR insider Steven Taranto has to say.

Taranto, who moonlights as a sim racer and has 20 career wins in iRacing, is the lead NASCAR writer for CBSSports.com. He has an annual NASCAR media credential and also publishes a popular weekly NASCAR predictions column, famously calling Ross Chastain and Daniel Suarez’s breakthrough wins in 2022.

Taranto was red-hot for SportsLine in 2024 as he nailed 17 winners, including 16-1 longshot William Byron at the Daytona 500 and 14-1 longshot Chase Elliott at Texas. He correctly picked the Straight Talk Wireless 400 winner in Larson on March 23. Anyone following his NASCAR picks at their favorite sportsbooks could have seen huge returns.

Now, Taranto has analyzed the starting lineup and odds for Saturday’s 2025 NASCAR Quaker State 400 at Echo Park Speedway in Hampton, Ga. He’s only sharing his best bets at SportsLine. You can also use them to take advantage of the latest FanDuel promo codeDraftKings promo code or BetMGM promo code.

2025 NASCAR Quaker State 400 expert picks

For the 2025 Quaker State 400 Echo Park Speedway in Hampton, Ga., Taranto is high on a number of favorites, including Joey Logano at +850. Logano has been dominant at Atlanta over the past few years, including a win at last year’s Quaker State 400. He placed 12th at the Ambetter Health 400 in February, where he led a race-high 83 laps. Two years earlier, he won the Ambetter Health 400.

Logano, 35, is a three-time NASCAR Cup Series champion, winning titles in 2018, 2022 and 2024. He was named the 2009 Sprint Cup Series Rookie of the Year and was named one of NASCAR’s 75 Greatest Drivers in 2023. In his 17-year career, he has run 588 Cup Series races. He has registered 37 wins, 289 top-10 finishes and 31 poles. See which other drivers he’s backing at SportsLine.

Top NASCAR props for Atlanta

Head-to-head: Taranto sees Todd Gilliland (+150) finishing ahead of Chris Buescher (-205). Taranto notes that Gilliland has fared well in Atlanta, leading for 58 laps there in February 2024, and seven laps this past February before finishing 15th. He has two top-10 finishes in 2025, and has been in the top-20 nine times. In 123 Cup Series races over four years, the 25-year-old Gilliland has 12 top-10 finishes, but is still looking for his first win.

Buescher, 32, meanwhile, has struggled at times in Atlanta. Earlier this year, he placed 30th at the 2025 Ambetter Health 400. He was 36th at the 2024 Quaker State 400, and 35th at the 2023 Ambetter Health 400. Over 329 races in his 10-year Cup Series career, he has registered six wins, 70 top-10 finishes and one pole. See all of Taranto’s picks at SportsLine.

How to make 2025 Quaker State 400 predictions

Taranto has also identified four other drivers in his 2025 NASCAR Quaker State 400 best bets. He’s also high on a huge NASCAR longshot who’s over 50-1, potentially netting any backer a huge payday. You can only see who they are here.

Subaru Motorsports Rudely Teases Us With Street-Legal WRX Rally Car Mockup

These days, there is no shortage of talented artists dreaming up cars that don’t exist, but should, and sharing them online. That’s to say nothing of the folks who will punch fake vehicle names into AI image generators for predictably horrible results. But these renders of a Subaru WRX rally car in street clothes hit differently, because they came from Subaru Motorsports itself.

Earlier in the week, Subaru’s U.S. rally team, which is operated by the fine folks at Vermont SportsCar, shared images of its WRX ARA25 rally car in stark white and blue with no liveries and gold rims and the caption “What if the Subaru WRX ARA25 was sold as road car?” The resulting comments were predictable, from some people offering to donate their kidneys for the cause, to others predictably begging for a new STI. But this thought exercise is so much more extreme than just about any Impreza or WRX the company’s ever sold, including the vaunted 22B.

The era of homologation specials—race cars that had to be sold as road cars, to be eligible for competition—has long since passed. Three or four decades ago, we might’ve gotten something like these images. The 22B STI, though it shared many visual similarities to Subaru’s WRC car of the late ’90s, was really a Type R chassis with flared fenders and many mechanical changes. Subaru built it because it chose to, to celebrate its rallying success—not because it had to.

Similarly, anything like this pie-in-the-sky ARA25 road car would have to come about because Subaru wanted to build it. Like everyone else, we wish it did. The VB WRX’s design has warmed up on me since its initial unveiling, but I still don’t love it. There’s just too much cladding, and the rear end design is very narrow and cinched in an unflattering way. But flare those fenders, tuck in the body just behind the front wheels, bolt on a big-ass wing, and swap all that black plastic out for genuine carbon fiber and, suddenly, you’ve systematically dismantled every possible criticism I though I had with the current-gen sport sedan. Race cars just have a knack for doing that.

As much as I avoid getting caught up in daydreaming like this, it’s a different story when it’s the OEM itself (or, its racing team) inviting us to do it. The STI may have gone on a hiatus, but it’s clear that there is still an appetite for a true giant-killing WRX to battle the likes of the Civic Type R, GR Corolla, and Golf R. Commercially, Subaru is killing it these days thanks to its SUVs, and the optimist in me is hopeful that increases the chances the automaker simply decides to blow a whole lot of money on a flagship performance car again. That’s the glass-half-full take, anyway; the pessimist in me is wondering why the Subaru rally team chose violence with such a cruel tease.

A bit of bad news for Kyle Larson and his team as they get ready to race at EchoPark Speedway in Atlanta tomorrow night. Larson’s No. 5 team failed inspection twice, and NASCAR has handed out a penalty as a result.

For failing inspection twice, Kyle Larson has a two-part penalty. He loses pit stall selection for this weekend. That’s a big deal at Atlanta, where the stalls are smaller and pit road can be tight.

Then there is the other part. Larson’s team also loses a crew member for the weekend, likely the car chief. Bob Pockrass of FOX Sports reported on the two-time inspection failure.

Kyle Larson is going to have a tough time. Drafting tracks are not his cup of tea. He almost always finds a way to find himself in one of the wrecks. But now, not having his pit stall selection or his car chief will be further setbacks.

During qualifying, Larson qualified relatively decently. He was P11, the second-best Hendrick driver and second-best Chevy in the session. His teammate Alex Bowman was P9. Larson has the speed he needs, but he will need luck if he wants to find the finish line tomorrow night in Atlanta.

Friday has been tough for not just Kyle Larson but NASCAR in general. A bit of lightning has kept popping up and delayed everything from qualifying to the Xfinity Series race.

Kyle Larson behind the ball to start in Atlanta

Most of the time, drivers and teams don’t worry too much about these penalties. Failing inspection twice and sacrificing your pit box doesn’t always matter. At EchoPark Speedway, it really could matter.

Drivers complain about how tight pit road can get. If someone enters their box crooked, it could block another driver into their box. There is also the risk of overshooting or misjudging your pit stop in the smaller box.

Perhaps to Larson’s credit, he was P3 in this race in Week 2 of the season. He finished behind Christopher Bell and Carson Hocevar as the field wrecked on the last lap and the caution came out. It was about to be another three-wide finish until it wasn’t.

Kyle Larson might have figured something out about Atlanta. While he’s got a couple of things working against him, it appears that he has a car fast enough to contend on Saturday night.

F1 Austrian GP live updates

Lewis Hamilton was very upbeat after qualifying fourth today when speaking in the media pen.

Although he felt there was enough time left in his lap to have maybe qualified second, he was full of praise for Ferrari’s operations in particular — and felt the updated floor had offered a small step forward in performance. He explained:

💬 “The guys in the garage always do an amazing job but I just think how calm the guys were, the head engineers were on the pit wall, the timing was spot on.

“And when they got us into the pit lane, the gaps they were giving us, staying out of the traffic management, not getting penalties for traffic here. The turnarounds were just spot on. It was really good.”

Hamilton is yet to score a podium on a Sunday so far this season, marking his joint-longest top-three drought in F1.

He drew comparison to the 945-day wait between wins at Saudi Arabia in 2021 and last year’s British Grand Prix:

💬 “It feels like that sort of thing, but hopefully it won’t take 900 days. The last few races I’ve said yeah, I can’t wait to get that podium, so I’m not going to say it. I’m just going to put myself towards action rather than words.”

It’s Tight At The Top As Gagne Leads Herrin By Just .084 Of A Second On
Opening Day In The Pacific Northwest

SHELTON, WA – June 28, 2025 – (Motor Sports NewsWire) – The Superbike pack might want to start paying attention as Jake Gagne is beginning to look like the Jake Gagne of old as he rode his Attack Performance Progressive Yamaha YZF-R1 to provisional pole position on a cloudy and cool Friday afternoon at Ridge Motorsports Park.

It was close at the top as Gagne’s best of 1:39.997 was just .084 of a second quicker than Warhorse HSBK Racing Ducati’s Josh Herrin with the defending MotoAmerica Superbike Champion a mere .094 of a second faster than Real Steel Honda’s Hayden Gillim on the provisional front row.

Tytlers Cycle Racing’s Cameron Beaubier led the provisional second row, with the five-time MotoAmerica Superbike Champion just .996 of a second slower than three-time champ Gagne. Both Gagne and Herrin did their fast laps on their seventh lap.

Vision Wheel M4 ECSTAR Suzuki’s Richie Escalante was fifth-fastest, marginally ahead of his teammate Sean Dylan Kelly.

Bobby Fong ended up seventh, just a tad over a second slower than his teammate.

FLO4LAW/SBU Racing’s Benjamin Smith, Jones Honda’s Ashton Yates, and BPR Racing’s Bryce Kornbau rounded out the top 10.

Motovation Supersport – Scholtz And Jacobsen At The Top

Strack Racing’s Mathew Scholtz led the Motovation Supersport Q2 session on Friday with the defending series champion besting Rahal Ducati Moto w/XPEL’s PJ Jacobsen by just .340 of a second with the two championship rivals from a year ago the only two to crack into the 1:42s with their 1:42.221 and 1:42.561 laps, respectively.

Scholtz’s teammate Blake Davis was third, a tick over a second off the top two and just .051 of a second faster than Jacobsen’s teammate Kayla Yaakov. The third of the Rahal Ducati’s rounded out the top five in the capable hands of Corey Alexander.

Celtic/Economy Lube+Tire/Warhorse HSBK Ducati’s Cameron Petersen was sixth-fastest, fractions ahead of BPR Racing Yamaha’s Teagg Hobbs. Altus Motorsports’ Jake Lewis, BPR Racing Yamaha’s Josh Hayes and Vision Wheel M4 ECSTAR Suzuki’s Tyler Scott rounded out the top 10. Scott was still feeling the effects of being rear-ended in the morning practice session.

SC-Project Twins Cup – Di Mario Rules!

Robem Engineering’s Alessandro Di Mario continued to show his mastery of the SC-Project Twins Cup class on Friday with a dominating performance in Q1. When all was said and done in the 30-minute session on the 2.47-mile Ridge Motorsports Park track, Di Mario was on provisional pole with almost two seconds in hand.

Giaccmoto Yamaha Racing’s Dominic Doyle was second, 1.886 seconds behind Di Mario and just a few tenths quicker than Bad Boys Racing’s Avery Dreher.

Karns/TST Industries’ Levi Badie and Speeddemon Racing’s Logan Cunnison rounded out the top five.

Mission Super Hooligan National Championship Powered By Harley-Davidson – Hurry Up And Weight

Local hero Andy DiBrino led the way in Q1 for the Mission Super Hooligan National Championship class at Ridge Motorsports Park with his lap of 1:45.016 putting him .806 of a second clear of the first of a trio of Harley-Davidson Pan Americas.

The first of the Harleys belonged to Hayden Schultz with the KWR Harley-Davidson rider besting Saddlemen Race Development’s Jake Lewis and his title-defending and current championship-leading teammate Cory West.

All the Harley-Davidson Pan America riders had to adapt to an increase in the minimum allowable weight of their bikes, a technical rule change instituted as a balancing measure after the previous Super Hooligan round last month at Road America. The Saddlemen Race Development Pan Americas had to add 38 pounds with the KWR Harleys having to add 24 pounds to meet the new minimums

Corey Alexander gave ARCH Racing its best day yet by putting its 2SR on the provisional second row with the fifth-fastest time of the day and just 1.3 seconds from DiBrino.

Royal Enfield Build.Train.Race. – All Cain

Championship points leader Miranda Cain was the fastest in the Royal Enfield Build.Train.Race. class on Friday at Ridge, with the Minnesotan almost a second quicker than Kira Knebel in Q1.

Shea MacGregor, Kate West and Cassie Creer rounded out the top five on the first day of the race weekend in Washington.
